One thing I realized is that for the "snake" game, once you reach a score of 27, it's almost impossible to survive any longer, since that's the maximum length that can circle around the perimeter of the board.

I would laugh my arse off if you made working cartridges with different games installed on them, so that it actually becomes a fully fledged game console. That would make it become amazing.
step 1: Buy drives
Step 2: Download stuff to drive
Step 3: Make a section to insert
Step 4:?????
step 5: Console
Bam, computer science!
I don't think it is possible with the board he is using
@@firstsurname8931 I believe you could store the games on the Arduino, so why not just attach the mini USB cord to a hole you would make in the box the console is in, feed the USB end through a different hole, and then at anytime connect the USB to the laptop and put in a selection of different Arduino chips for a different game.
you should make a 2d platformer with this
That would actually be feasible if it was a character running at a constant speed and the button made him jump. Like the offline dinosaur game.
The Dinosaur game has 2 controls: run and duck. And the dodging game is basically the same thing, except you are not able to duck. But if the game took up more space and blocks were solid, I'm sure a 2d platformer would be entirerly playable on the cardboard box.
Bounyey - in fact the dinosaur game for mobile chrome only has jump, but the game would be realized so much like the first one I don't know if it's worth it
***** Great idea. Although it would be easier to execute and play on a bigger screen, as you'd be able to se the angles of your chatacter.
this would be the same thing as "the game"; the first game where you are dodging the things. it would be the exact same game almost with different graphics
Because the game is so blinding, I guess you really can say it's a sunny snake!
Sunni snake?
sunny snake and awkward aardvark?
It should be called Death Spiral
Hazel Cricket Oh, hi Hazel Cricket!
hi
163!
That must be the highest score any human ever got in any video game :D
His game is completely different.
in super mario bros i got 2148
+abcdefghijkl nutshacknutshacknutshack
That's not even close to 163!
Is that more than 43?
Blaze McCrea nah you suck 163! Is much higher
you should make the LEDs RGB and can change color, that way, when you are playing, you can tell what is the item you are controlling (red) and what are the obstacles (green/blue)

the google chrome offline dinosaur jump game?
Adrian Sanchez but how tho?
on your phone you can turn on airplane mode then just try going to a website through Chrome. On your computer, disable your wireless or ethernet connection then do the same.
very similar to that wall dodging game from earlier.

It finaly paid off to write youtube comments! Sure.
DerNeuere Do you take Eli Miller to be your lawfully wedded wife?
I was in a similar situation and it turned out to be a 50 year old man. Didn't really worked out to well and divorces are stressfule, so a picture first would be nice.
DerNeuere So... yes?
Cary, why don't you add a menu screen?
This would let you have(at least on the games, not necessarily Conway's) two inputs, and when you lose you could press one button to continue and one to return to the menu, and one of the buttons in the menu would cycle through menu options, and the other would select that option.
Unless you want to stick with the 'one-input' thing as a cool challenge, nothing wrong with that.
-Doug
Why??
+Wakeor So uh.... bad day?
You should add pong or breakout! Oh and i dont think you should stick to the whole only press one button thing, its an unnecessary limitation, you already are limited by resolution.
You could add a Tetris game as a mode on the console!
You need at least two buttons for that, one for moving the blocks (warp over walls or have all blocks spawn from top left) and one for rotation
Au Ail Maybe you can make it stupidly complicated so that every time you tap the button the block moves left, a double tap moves right, and holding the button rotates the block
Maybe we need more developers working on this cutting-edge new platform
You should use only one color of led!
or multicolored leds
Would be too complicated, maybe those ones that have two colors one for right polarity and the other one with reverse, bud he'd need additional hardware to be able to switch the polarity, or a second cycle that would slow everything down...
AL_O0 Yeah, I feel like one colour would be so much easier to read and a whole lot less confusing.
Or addressable LEDs? Making a small display with APA102s is pretty painless.
Search about 'cjmcu 64 led'.
They are 8x8 grid of ws2812 rgb leds.
They are pretty bright.
You should make it pan again, but remove the blinkiness from the food, since you can tell what's food because it's moving.
yeessssss
You could put a grid of cardboard "fences" to make sure light from a pixel doesn't bleed out in another pixel's space... I think it would look nicer...
watch led 10x10 matrix that is what you are looking for
I think the max high score you can get in this version of snake 28, because it will be impossible for you to maneuver yourself out of danger with just one turn once you create a complete border circle due to the spiral issue you mentioned, so 20/28 is much closer to a perfect game than you thought.
Unless you get lucky with the food spawns and start the spiral from the middle
Yes thats true, but your luck would have to be extremely high :D
Well, my luck is 10 so i will ace this shite!
could you add tetris? 1x1 blocks fall from the top, and pressing the button pushes it to the right by 1, no walls.
+Jonas Grandt The challenge in Tetris is that you'll have to find pieces to fit together. If everything was 1x1 there wouldn't be any challenge.
You reach that challenge via having more than one input. With only one input, the challenge builds as you screw up. One such challenge that never develops when you can move left AND right. Also it's a fun little experiment, like The Game and 1-input Snake.
I think it should be that the tetris pieces are given one second where button press rotates it(not for square) and then they start to fall from the top left and you can shift them to the right with the button.
What's the website you got open in the background that you found bitcount on
I just searched something like "Arduinob byte" on Google, and it's the first result.
www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/HomePage
"Arduinob"... didn't know about that card ^-^
Just do x & (1
For the snake game, you can make it so that you can use both controls by making it so that the mode change only works when the game is over.
cary must do a flappy bird game mode!
ew. too cringey.
@@bubblybeluga1178 Shut up
For the snake game, once you reach the highest possible score, you should make it so that the board resets. (You keep your score)
Cary, for the 2-control setup, have button 1 always turn left or up depending on whether the snake is currently oriented horizontal or vertical. Similarly, button 2 would always be right or down.
Just imagine he goes from 8x8 to 4k, I mean, that would be the best upgrade in history of computer upgrades and some sound would be awesome. Cheers!
This console is pretty cool!

Add more buttons (at least two so you can have L/R and action, but D-pad and action is better), an 8-segment numerical display for score or other uses, and for bonus points make a cartridge slot where game code is read from a chip that you plug in. ;D
You should Make a way for the game can be used by a controller. For easier play
i agree
Na but that's what makes his game so great. One control. How simpler can you get?
@@njcwolf4654 you cant feasibly do that with out a bunch of extra parts. You cant just plug in an xbox controller
The second input could swap the rotation.
So you still have the first input as turn right, but the second input changes the first input to turn left.
I know a lot of people may look at what you are doing and say it's stupid or lame and sucks but what you are doing it so unique! its such a good idea! I'm at university here in the UK doing games art development and I love where you are coming from, keep the work up man!!!

You talked about having two controls, but with only the two buttons. One thing you could do is count an int up (changeTime++; for example) when the menu button is held, and when it reaches a certain value, _then_ it switches games.
CaryKH, once this game-console-thingy has all these games, I think you should add a programmer in, so that you could program your own games without having a connection to the Arduino. Not only that, I think you should have your own programming language. Yeah... its syntax would be like this if you wanted to light up the light on the first row and first column, wait 1 second, and light up the light on the second row and second column:
LIGHT 1, 1, 1
WAIT 1
LIGHT 2, 2, 1
Let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.
I would rather program it in assembly.
I love it when you contradict yourself in the annotations

The edges of your paper screen don't match up with the LEDs.
Yeah that was mildly infuriating. x)
You could make lines on the paper so you know where the display ends, so you don't crash into the wall by mistake when you don't know where it is
You should make each led have 2 colors. Green for your character and blue for something else. That way you can see what's a snake and what's not.
How many frames does Minecraft get on this console?
698 fps

Add a platformer where your character stays in the same spot, except for jumping, and the floor moves beneath him with jumps.
I can’t wait for the global release of the Carykh Console!
Add a speaker that plays a sound similar to old arcades, and it plays when you die, or get points, etc.
This inspired me to make my own gaming console, and I am doing it right now with my dad. I coded a pattern game and found materials, my dad is building it, and everything we needed we already had, so it will be free.
Edit: In case you are wondering, yes, we did make our own screen using a radio shack electronics board and a few old LEDs.
Larger Colour LED board with closer spacing would be awesome!
I know this is old, but if you made it pan but fixed the left behind parts and made food less common, so that there weren't 20 on screen at all times, the panning snake would be amazing!
You could program a Simon like game, I'm not entirely sure how the controls would work but the graphics isn't an issue it would only required at least 4 lights to flash in a pattern.
i love this series and how simple it is, please continue with it. I would really like you to build like 10 games into this little thing, that would be p cool.
You can set one of the controls to up/left and the other one to down/right and only use the correct one each time. I had a phone like that and it was really great, and it's also not relative so it would fit nicely
"those blinking dots are the food but my snake doesnt like them yet
XD
the good thing about this console is that it actually comes with a screen, unlike the xbox one or ps4
You could make it so that when horizontal, right and left corresponds to right and left on the screen, but when vertical it turns right and left.
I've got an idea for a game, maybe a race kind of thing when you try and snake around the board as fast as you can. You can kind of have the controls being like say 1, 2 .1, 2 etc.. and if you press 2 when you are supposed to press 1 You restart. Just an idea I had seeing that you just made a new mode.
It blows my mind that someone can do this in such short amounts of time. Really interesting!
THAT'S IT!!!! I'v been trying to figure out how to store numbers for LED and LCD panels by pixel, I never though to use decimal numbers to represent the binary data. That's going to work exactly how I need it to. :DDDDD
Programming is what you do for fun? Programming is what I do when I'm sick and don't want to do some calculations, like dot-multiplying (x3=x1*x2+m*y1*y2, y3=x1*y2+y1*x2).
LedBOX ... Now available in stores today by the revolutionary millionaire Cary Huang
A simplistic, subtle piece of technology that's nothing but LEDs, Arduino circuits, a few buttons, and a Python script
Included with classic games like the Game of Regeneration, Flappy Bit, and SnakeLine
You can make the snake game this way:
Every 20 food, reset snake length and make game faster.
you could use one button, but use timing, like if you double press it it turns left and you could just let it be not right and left, but clockwise and counter clockwise.
Ive been watching your vids since the day you uploaded the first vid featuring this console and love them!!!! Please keep up the good work!
You should print a thick grid on the paper, to make it look like pixels. I have a feeling that a single color would be better.
Oh my god you have a cat!
It's so CUTE!
I liked it better when the screen scrolled with the snake. You just can't have the food flash
more cat in your video pls
I give you credit for being able to do all of this, I would defiantly not come close to what you can do with that.
You can make the control buttons rotate the world, so the snake always points upwards
I love how you just look at an piece of paper in a cardboard box.
cary, there is a thing known as minimum viable product when producing a game, you just made one for a console, you should probably update it to have color next as seeing food can be difficult when the snake is next to it. either tat or adding more inputs for control,
when I play a top down rotating game like asteroids, I don't really think of it like turning right or left, I just think in terms of clockwise and counter closkwise
Carykh, keep up the great work!
i'm new to your channel but I've got to say (my opinion) your uploading videos that are not been already done, and that makes you a awesome youtuber in my books!
and btw, i hope you go far with the "console" (it's what you called it in the first part, so i will too XD), then expect me to be in the front of the line at the store that will be selling it at midnight!!
Nice! try to replace the leds with rgb leds it will be alot more fun!
Before I watch this, is there actual snakes in the video or is it just the game snake?
game
blueman
Thanks.
CausticFoil no problem.
do you have a fear of snakes?
blueman
Yeah. I think the finger in the thumbnail sort of confused me lol.
CausticFoil ok :)
Instead of making the camera pan with the snake, you should've made the food dimmer, to make the snake look more distinct.
The way I learned to program Snake is using a list of body segment positions, and you just push a new head position and pop the previous tail position every frame. Your method is interesting, but seems overcomplicated.
You made scale of the universe? Jesus I love that site. Good work mate.
My favorite youtube series
This seems to be going pretty well! Keep up the great work
Make the box nicer! Paint it, make it more "stable", and add some cool texture (Fabric or something). And, please help my OCD out, the slanted screen is killing me :(
Beside that, THIS THING IS AWSOME
Make something similar to that t-rex game you get when you don't have an internet connection and it shows this t-rex but if you press your spacebar it turns into a game where you have to keep on pressing space to jump over cacti and stuff. That would work perfectly, especially since you only press spacebar, which follows the one-button-control rule. And maybe you could do something similar to Flappy Bird? Oooooh the possibilities and variety of games! DO MORE!
The slant on the paper is killing me slowly, its not level. I'd be very happy to see part 4 where you make a better cardboard window, perhaps make a mount for the window so it is level and add another game. Someone suggested tetris. Something like space invaders could work if the "ship" autoshoots, and you just press 1 button to scroll across the screen (looping at the edges).
if possible you should add rgb leds
When will your console be available in the US?
It's so cool! I wonder what's on it now!
what is that program you used to put your code into, it looks really clean
MeatyLeaf the program is arduino
But can it run Minecraft with Ultra-High Quality Shaders and Texture Packs?
Cary, make the snake one color and the food another!
Balldric youre completely right
Hey, I have a small suggestion (and it's not even a suggestion about the code, so it will be little work for you :) ). Could you draw a square on the sheet of paper which would mark the borders of the LED grid? Two of the borders are farther away from the edge of the cardboard from the others, so it is a little confusing to see when the snake is about to hit an edge.
Two things: on Arduino you can write multiple pages of code to one board so things are more organized (although i understand if you are trying to save space) and also, what happens if you are 64 units long in snake? Where does the food spawn?
1. How about a game where you're a dot that have to jump to platforms that are either higer up or lower down. The screen can follow the dot.
2. Maybe you could make a pong like game but you just play against a wall and try to get as manny bounces as you can instead of trying to win.
Space invaders
Hey I just subbed plus I think that tetris might be a good idea if it isn't too hard
there is an easier way to display a seven segment display. You don't store each pixel you store each segment. e.g. 0 = 1110111 1= 0010010 2 = 1011101
Curt Reyes It's not a seven seg LED, it's a large amount of leds that he can control individually.
Justin C Don't try to talk about things you don't understand you just sound dumb
Curt Reyes A seven segment LED has LEDs that are either vertical or horizontal, what he has are pixels. If you ment to mean an arrangement of pixels in the same shape as a seven segment LED, I am sorry for arguing with you.
Justin C seven segment refers to the way the numbers are displayed not what they are displayed on
I am sorry, I thought you were talking about a seven segment LED as in this one 3.bp.blogspot.com/-5eVUX1t0Sz4/USmUUH9KRjI/AAAAAAAAAMM/e-i56oAj1ZQ/s1600/seven+segment.jpg not in the way that you were thinking.
Cary, you need to name your console, and you know it.
It’s name is Cary 1
I think you should make a game that sees how much you can press the button in a set amount of time. You should be able to change how much time there is for you to press the button too, if that isn't too much.
About score counter - why not make it hardware? A lot less problems IMHO. Just get BCD counter or even few JKs.
I guess only hardware he wants is an 8x8 display and buttons
Maybe you should try making a higher quality frame for the console, maybe change its color or make the edges smoother
i programmed snake on my calculator and if the snake becomes really long the game would slow down incredibly
Technically, 20 pixels would be 5/16 of the entire board.
have the 2 controls for snake, but rotate the board when you turn so that your snake always faces north
that was the clusterfuck you saw at 12PM
you should make some phone games, like flappy bird, or cookieclicker, or any other game that only needs one button
you do realise he could mimic flappy bird in a few hours
Overused Meme yea....
well in cookie clicker, you've gotta use a button to buy buildings, upgrades, ect. that would mean a lot more buttons!
Wait CC i was just talking about the clicking part
+Slothy Wow, take it easy.
