- I needed to upload a video of my work for the class (to prove it works), so i figured, why not make it public for everybody to see? Hoy hoy
64 pixels, on or off (color of pixels can't be changed / does not matter) means that this entire game screen has fewer possible states than 3 pixels of a standard RGB, 0-255 screen.
For those attentive viewers out there: DID YOU NOTICE THIS WAS ALL IN ONE TAKE? Apart from livestreams, I don't think I've ever uploaded any chunk that long unedited before!

I'm pretty sure I saw it right. Look at 1:40 for example. Play it at half or a quarter speed if necessary. (Only) the second light is on (binary 2), then he passes one more obstacle, and then (only) the third light is on (binary 4). Again at 1:47 (but then the fourth light is on as well, so from binary 10 to binary 12).

Thats how screen monitors work, just that each little LED is extremely tiny and are pared in groups of 3 with the colors RED, GREEN, BLUE, or RGB. Each LED has about 255 different brightnesses, 1 being off, 255 being the brightest possible. And with each LED having 255 different brightnesses, the different colors when say, the red LED's are at 255, the green are at 255, the blue at 1, it makes the color yellow, and using all these settings, each individual pixel has about 255^3 possibilities. (or 16 million different colors.) and that is umm.. More colors than the human eye can see, which is 100^3 or 1 million different colors. Meaning that every color that we can see, a computer can see more.

I would recomend you add a diffuser over the LEDs so it hurts your eyes less.
The LEDs need to burn permanently into your eyes before the game can burn permanently in your mind.

What's important is that the graphics do their job of showing you what is going on (imagine playing Advance Wars colorblind) and are appealing, it's fine; quality after that is less important.

I mean... For a high-school project it would be actually pretty good. For university, sole usage of arduino is underwhelming already. Not to mention that the LEDs are not multiplexed, which would allow to free more pins for more buttons. It wouldn't pass the project at my uni.
It really depends on the course. You could have intro logic gate courses that never reach this complexity and some classes that would scoff at its simplicity.
I think the binary counter has a bug. Every time the last three digits are 010, it jumps directly to 100 instead of 011. Yo can see this for example at the times 1:40, 1:46, 1:52 and so on.
This means that it skips every integer that has the rest 3 mod 8. Your apparent high score of 159 would really just be 159 - ceil((159-3)/8) = 159 - 20 = 139.
So you've made it past the 128 anyway!

There's not much to evolve.
An AI good enough for almost any situation is super simple: if there is an obstacle on the tile in front of you, move in one direction, unless you are at a border in which case move in the other direction

That's correct. I don't think there's any chance a real human could ever get that far. Let's see...the game speed is determined by
gameSpeed = 90*pow(score*2.5+12,-0.5);
So, if the score is 65,535, the highest possible score, the speed is 0.22234, which means every game frame takes 0.22234 centiseconds. It takes 8 game frames for an obstacle to cross the screen, so you'd have 1.78 centiseconds, as in, 0.0178 seconds, to react to the obstacles in time. Not possible.
