How to Make Bonsai from a Honeysuckle🌼*EASY*

  • In this Bonsai video I show you how to create Bonsai from a Honeysuckle! Also known as a Lonicera. A great species for beginners to Bonsai!
    I explain my approach to four different Lonicera trees that are grown in different Bonsai styles and also are in different stages of development. When working with Bonsai, I think it is important to work on a variety of trees of the same species as each tree can react a little differently to the same techniques. I find this is one of the fastest ways to really understand a species and to speed up your learning!
    The Lonicera (aka. Hedging Honeysuckle) is a popular species for Bonsai due to its many desirable characteristics! One of its key features is the small leaves, which are great for creating realistic proportions in Shohin and Mame sized Bonsai - However it is certianly possible to create BIG Bonsai with one also as the leaves can easily be made into beautiful pads!
    It is also a very fast-growing species that responds well to pruning and wiring, making it easy to shape and maintain the desired Bonsai form. The delicate appearance, intricately patterned leaves, and fragrant flowers that bloom in various colors and the purple/blue berries also add to its aesthetic appeal.
    Because the Lonicera is highly adaptable and can grow well in a range of climates, it is an excellent species for beginners to Bonsai as it is so versatile and easy to care for!

    Hi Adam I have worked with Lonicera for a good mount of time so appreciate the video you have made on them, I have about 6 I think all at different sizes from small to a few very large heavy trunked specimens from garden shrubs, I love working with them as you can see improvements over a very short time which is not the case with other types of trees, they root very easily I have rooted pieces bigger than an inch in just plain water, they are ideal for the people just starting out to learn their skills, they will have learnt a lot from your videos and hopefully it will encourage those who are thinking about trying bonsai for the first time to take the first step. I keep a large shrub in the boarder which acts as the mother tree for all the cuttings I take, I let it grow wild so the cuttings are a useful size to start with, I do find to my cost they are very brittle so care is needed wiring and bending them, a little tip if you do snap a branch part way you can use super glue to repair them, just wrap raffia or substitute for raffia to hold it in place for at least 6 months then be careful removing whatever you have used to protect the break as the area may be weak but will be alive. Ramble over. Well done Adam you are doing a service to a lot of people using plain sensible instructions.

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  Před rokem

      نعم، بالطبع يمكن عمل بونساي صغير لنخلة في أصص صغيرة. يعد تشكيل النخلة في صورة بونساي تحديًا ممتعًا ومثيرًا للاهتمام. لكن يجب مراعاة بعض العوامل المهمة لضمان نجاح النخلة كبونساي صغير
      اختيار نوع من النخيل الصغير المناسب للتدريب كبونساي، مثل نخيل الديتيل.
      استخدام تربة مناسبة تحافظ على توازن الرطوبة وتسمح بتصريف الماء بشكل جيد.
      الاهتمام بالري والتغذية المناسبة للنبات. يجب أن تكون النخلة في حاجة إلى ري منتظم وتوفير التغذية المناسبة للحفاظ على صحة النبات.
      قص الأوراق والأغصان بانتظام للحفاظ على الحجم المناسب والشكل المرغوب للنخلة.
      توفير الإضاءة المناسبة للنخلة. النخيل تحتاج إلى ضوء كافٍ للتمثيل الضوئي والنمو الجيد.
      باختيار النخلة المناسبة واتباع الإرشادات المذكورة أعلاه، يمكنك بناء بونساي جميل لنخلة في أصص صغيرة.

      Hey. It is important to remember the after care when you do heavy root pruning. Ensure that the tree receives sufficient water to help the roots establish in the new soil. It's best not to let the tree to sit in water in a tray, as this can lead to root rot. Provide adequate sunlight, taking into account the specific light requirements of your tree species. Avoid exposing the freshly repotted tree to extreme temperatures or strong winds, as these can stress the tree. Monitor the tree closely for any signs of stress, such as wilting or yellowing leaves, and take prompt action if necessary, such as adjusting watering or providing shade.
      Also depending on the species that you work on will determine how much roots you can take off. On the honeysuckle I know that they will recover from a heavy root prune... however if it were a juniper or a pine I wouldnt remove any more than 1/3 of the overall root mass. Hope this helps dude! 😊🪴🌳
