- Bagging’s Gold!! Lonicera - is Shurb In the honeysuckle family, known for its bright yellow foliage - hence the name!
In this video I am giving them all a little cut back and trim. Exploring Ideas, selecting new leaders and useful branches and making them more stable for ground planting in spring!
They have spent the year in the greenhouse left alone and have come along growing Vigours and healthy.

These are some really cool Honeysuckles that you have. Nice work pruning them. Some nice trunks also.
Thanks Tom, Do you have this variety back home?
Well done Sam. They'll.make some nice trees. And the bonus, the great man himself worked on one. Is he a nice bloke? Always comes across as one.
Cheers Kevin, it’s a really user friendly species a little hard to bend without snapping but leaf size and growth rate is inspiring. Well a Gentleman never tells… haha 😂 He a really nice guy, iv only briefly meet him really but he spared me some time and created some lovely things out of the material I present. That trip to herons and half hour with Peter this year really cheered me up 😊
Those 2 are real specimens for you.
A few months ago they were serval cuttings from a batch on a bench. Now they have a history and a story behind them. And aspect of bonsai I love 🌱
Great little trees, very glad I got one of them. Not sure yet if I'll keep it small or long and cascading, maybe something to decide on next Spring. I'll try doing some cuttings as you sggested. Cheers.
Very glad to have passed one on! Really intrigued to see where you go with yours. I would like a picture in maybe 2-3 years, would be great to see!
Great video Sam. Any advice on repotting Lonisera please? As usual there's quite a bit of conflicting talk on the internet, some videos show the trees being bare rooted during repotting and others leaving a fair bit of soil on and around the rootball.
How old are these by now? Really curious if these will thicken up and how long it takes.
Hi Yurup, 2 years so fair progress in that time I believe. All the facts you require are I the video id recommended watching it thru 😊
do these ever flower and if so are they scented
Hi Andy, I have noted flowers on a unchecked plant. The examples in the gardens I look after are clipped in to shapes and don’t get the chance. Reading up however they do have a small white flowers in late spring with a delicate scent followed by small violet berry’s. Hope that helps
