    Thank you so much for this video. I am so glad I found your channel. I have never seen a video of someone breaking down why they are cutting where they are cutting when pruning a bonsai. They just go to town on it and you are left shocked and wondering why so much was cut. This really helps me wrap my mind around the intentional pruning required with bonsai.

    Hi Adam, I'm from New Zealand and enjoy watching your videos. I have started a NZ native tree fuchsia this spring so was great to see your latest video. Thanks for all the info and inspiration. It is also great to show my family that younger folks do bonsai too and do it well. Cheers Marko.

    Great work Andy. Thanks for all your wise knowledge on Fushias.
    Here in Melb Australia spring has just started and last week l dug out a 30-year-old Fushia from the garden with a 40mm trunk width.
    Hoping for new growth shortly to see if the new bonsai project has taken off.
    And yes, Fushia l found need a lot more water than the rest of the garden even with growing in part shade.
    And vigorous growers even in our winter.

    Hello Adam. I think you should know that there are more than 20.000 different fuchsia cultivars registered. So you get from really small flowers to big blousy ones . I think that you should choose a hanging fuchsia as a cascade bonsai, and not the Genii it looks like you have as a cascade type. Marinka is a good variety for this kind of style.
    And as you say, they root very easy, and can become too many sometimes. I am currently training a WALZ Polka as a bonsai which is a very special looking flower that is purple and green with blue pollen.

    Hi Adam like most bonsai keepers I have not thought about using fuchsia for bonsai I think there are fuchsia that only last one flowering season, bedding plants which are clearly not suitable, as they are not hardy plants the other is a tree fuchsia which is the type you are demonstrating here even then not all are hardy enough to withstand our winters.Good luck with yours Adam

It would be so fun picking out pots for fuschia bonsai. • @mercamg9312
      @mercamg9312 Před 9 měsíci

      if you have a mild winter they will still grow vigorously. Don't know about snow covered winters. Take inside near a window probably best.

    • @ashaion1777
      @ashaion1777 Před 9 měsíci

      @mercamg9312 Winters are quite mild here. Some winters you get about -1, -2 Celsius. Last year we had a lot of minus 5. Guess I will try keeping one in a pot in the greenhouse and see how it goes. In my garden bed they die back and regrow the following spring, not ideal for bonsai that.

    • @mercamg9312

    hummmph not really a ''serious'' Bonsai which is the main thing wrong with the hobby luckily we have young people like this not stuck in the past
    Go for it they grow fast, cheap to buy , have nice small flowers make excellent literati style/root over rock mistakes fix easily and quickly
    only downside thing is its not a long term project
    the other one is root over rock Chrysanthemum which is a whole little side business in Japan
