      I recommend it. There is _nothing_ like it (but then I am biased: a paraglider pilot myself, went flying the same route as Louis 2 days ago). A few things: (1) the feeling is very different than, say, standing on top of a tower of the same height would be, so the traditional "fear of heights" doesn't necessarily apply. I feel _very_ uncomfortable on top of tall masts but very comfortable flying 1 km above ground, (2) about the launch: you don't "jump off" anything, it's the opposite, you get lifted gently _up,_ and if something doesn't work, the launch process is simply stopped and redone, (3) the paragliding accident rate in Interlaken is ZERO as far as I know, and that's for the past 15 years or so, with 6 companies flying tourists practically non-stop, tens of thousands of people per year, (4) in general (not in Interlaken!) amateur paragliding accident statistics are very similar to motorcycle accident statistics, so nothing very exotic here. (Unlike BASE jumping which has terrible accident statistics.) Autumn is a very good time, less people, and trees start changing colours! Finally, (5) when flying don't worry about bumps in the air, the paraglider is made to withstand even strong turbulence (which doesn't happen on the routes the tandems fly anyway) and is _extremely strong,_ despite appearances. Just _one_ of those lines could hold your entire weight, and there are about 40 of them. The lines are actually stronger than steel (made from Kevlar/aramide).

      @TheTravelingSwiss  Před rokem +4

      @@JanPBtest Wow! learned a lot here - thanks for the comment! We would definitely want to go try it in Autumn. Your comment about the lines and how strong they are made me (Alexis) feel much better - perhaps I'll join Louis next time!

    • @JanPBtest

      @@TheTravelingSwiss A bit of the local flying knowledge (never mind I live in the SF Bay Area 🙂) : when preparing for landing at the Höhematte park (shown at the beginning and the end of the video), the flag on top of the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel is a very handy-dandy wind direction indicator! I suspect it wasn't designed to be _that_ but it works very well. The idea being you want to land against the wind. If you don't like the idea of doing weird spirals and wingovers, just ask the pilot to fly nice and easy. Another rule of thumb, rarely needed in practice, is when you pass a certain specific part of the Harder rocky face, it means you are likely too low to reach Höhematte. In that case you turn right and land at... Schiessstand Lehn (a meadow used for.. target practice!)

      @@pinoydish2440 haha no rollercoaster drop feeling!!! The running down part was fine, you just keep running fast until you can’t. When you’re flying, you’re suspended in air so it just feels like you’re sitting in high altitude with wind in your face. The instructor does all the navigating so just enjoy the scenery!

    @AlexSmith-kq6iv Před rokem

    Hi. How fast do they fly at?

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest Před rokem

      Paraglider trim airspeed is about (a bit less than) 30 km/h. There is a way to lower the wing's angle of attack which adds about 10 km/h to the airspeed (in case of a stronger headwind or a patch of sinking air). During landing the speed wrt the ground is typically about walking speed, so landing is like stepping off an escalator.
