  • Four of my five kids decide to blow their descretionary spending money on a paragliding flight while in Interlaken, Switzerland. Was it worth it?

    I’m planning to fly first week of October. How is the weather during October in Interlaken?

    The conditions look a bit unusual: at 1:50 it looks like the wind is from the right instead of more straight on, which can create turbulence from the trees there (turbulence is not a problem in the air but it can be a serious problem when you are near the ground, like at the launch or landing). And at 4:28 everyone is landing in the opposite direction than typical (reversed wind). When conditions are good it makes little difference which spot you launch from, assuming you find a good lift! A beautiful video, your kids are very cool. 5:53 He is right: you run and get gently lifted _up,_ there is no "jumping".

      Thanks for your comments… you clearly know more about paragliding than me. Conditions were somewhat unusual that day as I recall. The instructors had to use the secondary launch site to accommodate the unusual conditions.

      @@bradball Yes, I got my first flight there in 2011. When I came back, I decided to learn paragliding myself (so be careful, it's addictive). I went back there many times since then, with my own wing, it's a bit like a pilgrimage. The second launch (Amisbühl) is actually more the primary one, the upper one requires a bit better conditions. But there are _lots_ of places there one can fly from, one of them has a great impossible name: Luegibrüggli (sic). And in case there is not enough lift to reach the Höhematte park, one can land at a closer designated landing field which also doubles as... a shooting range for target practice (Schiessstand Lehn)!

    Hello. Do they provide the cameras to film on air?

      The pilot has a camera (GoPro) that they use... it's on a small selfie stick and tethered to his arm.

    Very expensive to bring the whole family into the air. Especially in Interlaken.

    how long was the flight time? their website said 10-20 minutes. Were your kids in the air for the whole 20 minutes?

      Looking at the timestamp of the pictures... they were in the air for about 12 minutes altogether. The wind conditions were unusual on the morning they went paragliding, so they used a secondary launch site... which was a little bit lower in elevation. Had they launched from the original location, they probably would have had 2-3 more minutes in the air. I would say 20 minutes would be a stretch... most likely someone doing a paragliding with this group in Interlaken would probably have 10-15 minutes of fly time.

    What's the weight limit for the duel paragliding

    • @bradball
      @bradball  Před měsícem

      Not exactly sure but saw many adults doing it. I assume limit is around 200 kilos.

    How much did they fly? 20 minutes?

    • @bradball
      @bradball  Před 2 lety

      All together in the air about 15 minutes or so.

      It depends on the weather.
