I am the only one who is watching tons of interview videos of PM and not getting any opportunities for the interview 😅
yes buddy
did you got?
The Revenues estimation could've been more structured
A very insightful video, just wanted to add a point, and do let me know in reply if this makes sense or not. When we say the revenue is decreasing, a clarifying question to add could be " Have the no of paid members also seen a similar trend?" If yes, then nothing to add. But if no, there are some of these DTH services/Mobile internet services which provide some of the memberships of apps free out of which Spotify could be one, so maybe as a marketing collaboration we might have given out free subscriptions to members in the past few months.
Yes, this totally makes sense. Could be one of the external factors maybe because of which we are seeing a downward trend. Thanks for bringing this up.
So much to learn (Y) Thanks team
Thanks... :)
Would love to hear what the community thinks about this. I would clarify if these metrics are also declining: (1) conversion rate from free to paid (2) number of new free users sign up per month [even if the conversion rate is the same, fewer signs up decrease the total number of users who will convert to paid (3) cancellation rate from paid users. To validate the hypothesis that users are switching to competitors because of the improved recommendation engine, cross-check with usage data. I would expect paid users to stop listening to Spotify completely after cancelling and downgrading to the free plan. Free users' usage should also decline. If usage is not impacted, competition is likely not a factor.
Exactly, we may see avg streaming hours/user decrease over a period of time. Its not that people shift overnight to competitor just because they launched it. Shifting to comp is very well thought of thing since there is so much inertia to change behaviour and go to new app entirely.
(We can do paid, free streaming/ user to better assess why paid users are cancelling. Probably check the trend of churn rate)
She can use constraint approach for guesstimation atleast for ads revenue, as Spotify could have limited space (banners) to ad and limited days in a month /hours in a day and peak hours
I have an interview in a few days and your approach here seems very interesting. Would you mind laying out your approach in detail for me. It would really help me a lot. Thank You Piyush !
besttt mock avilable on youtube
I don't get the guesstimate part. If Spotify makes 0.25 rupee per ad, and user is listening to 36 ads a day, shouldn't revenue be multiplied there? Shouldn't the total be 1.54 (no. of users) * 0.25 (money per ad) * 36 (num ads) * 30 (no. days in a month)? Why did she divide this by 36? 25 paisa is the money made per ad, right?
