After watching this video I'm wondering why ISU is not changing those old carpets for some synthetic ice pads, you know, something that allows the skater to slide, but the rest of people can stand over them without slipping?. Those unexpected falls are no joke...

Is there any replacement material for the carpets as you said? I mean, I've seen many skaters slipped and fell because of that thing just waiting for accidents or injuries to happen.

@@JJonice I don't think sliding for 5 minutes during the ceremony would make any damage to their blades. Anyway I would rather having their blades destroyed before their knees or ankles after a fall caused by a carpet for the sake of a protocol.

@@jaysp8613 you’re right maybe 5 minutes is not that bad but stil, it affects the blade. Also, falling from a jump is probably way more dangerous than falling from the carpet.
But anyway even if then would add a plastic ice the skaters would still have to make a step. On the carpet and on the plastic ice, if they miss the step they fall for sure.

@@JJonice True, but at least during a jump they are prepared for the impact, and even so we have seen some serious injuries. With the carpet they never expect it and it's harder to react, making it more dangerous, in my opinion.
About the step created by the Ice panels, they could just make a bigger area to cover the whole ceremony place, let's say 1/4 of the Ice rink surface, also making them of a distinctive color could help the skaters to differentiate them from the real ice rink.

If I remember correctly that happened during the Canadian national competition. It’s quite stressful when it happens during the competition but you gotta deal with it like a pro. I once tore a stitch in the back of my dress because a glitter that was on my sleeve got stuck in it during a spin. Let me tell you that shit made my anxiety sky rocket.
