- Snack is back, liquid molasses delivery huge progress in the robotic shed as cubicles start to go in!! I make a hard standing area for the sheep to have silage on.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Hi Charlotte, the team building the cubicles are getting it done and I can understand that the guys don't won't to be filmed cause they have seen your videos and who knows what you will do when editing. Ha Ha. I like the idea of feeding the sheep SHNACKS, which is another good use of an organic product helping them before lambing. In Bundaberg, Australia they use molasses from sugar cane to make the famous Bundeberg Rum, which is not a bad drop. Its a pity its been so wet, otherwise you could have had a great crop of grass to finish off the sheep. If it's not the chook, it's the cat getting in on the being filmed. 'Aviation Update", I just love your reaction to the planes. Let Roy know we would like to hear him speak more, especially with some of his good humour. Keep on keeping on. Hello there. We used to buy treatle in bulk 10 ton at a time. We had a big tank. It came out of a factory. We fed it to sucallers out side in the winter months. There was no such thing has bad silo.
It's really coming together now Charlotte won't be long now before your ready for your cows.

Sheds coming on well , be interesting to see if the jersey herd get on with the robots , we have a couple of farms near us that couldn’t get their jersey herds to use the robots and had nothing but problems
The herd we are buying is already on robots 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 perfect 🤩

Tom Pem did a video where he looked at a shed system like you are having where the cows could go into the field if they wanted, I thought it was fascinating and such a good idea.
Long in the tooth comes from when people get older and gums recede so there is more tooth showing, would well apply to animals I guess

when you are finally finished and the cows are settled in , you will have to do a video from start to finish, coming together quickly now but I guess for you it seems to take forever, PS when filling out of the IPC it look like you are getting an air lock in the barrel, maybe try filling slower (just an idea)
Honestly I think you might be right it’s always done that I’m going to lift it up on more so it’s higher up someone suggested it

I used to deliver molasses, we'd pump it into the farm tank , and I swear the cattle knew what was coming, they'd be pushing and shoving because I always emptied my pump onto their feed barley straw 😅😅

I thought the pollution on an online map was our neighbour who farms extensive cattle, it’s BPB who people say it’s only steam coming out of the tower. In fairness I think it’s a carbon map I’d looked

So you have no problem eat the molasses but have a melt down when it get in your hair 😂😂😂😂typical woman response 😂😂😂😂I am in love with sheep lately even after one battered me 😂😂😂have u ever had a sheep or any animal you wouldn't touch yourself out of fear they may attack you ,because I don't know my limits I got battered by goats ,cows sheep mostly as a kid working with grandad but it never stopped me keep going back to he's farm ,it killed me when it got sold off

Did i hear right, the cows will have access all year round to the grass, fields outside? If so, thats not going to work charlotte, i can tell you now. Sorry, but 34 yrs with cows tells me that.
Sorry, we will be going for 180 days similar to what the sucklers were but a month sooner turned out and a month sooner turned in. Must move the portequip feed trailer and wash it down, won’t be farming like that with dairy cattle!

did you say your cows are going to go out in the fields all year round.........i'm not sure that would have worked this year with all the bloody rain we've had ......if sheep are making a mess then 120 cows will certainly make mess plus you need to keep cows clean having them paddling in mud isn't going to work. you need to lay those fields next to your farm up now charlotte sow some fertiliser on them so that you got some nice lush grass there for these cows that are coming .......you been telling us for months your going to be milking by the end of march
Never had as much silage left in the pit as what we’ve got this year, I think the good lord is watching and keeping us right along this journey. Cows will have the expected 180 days which works in with modern welfare conditions. Would’ve aimed for mid March, the cows aren’t coming, but if they were it could’ve happened. Not pushing as hard now, why pay men for 14 hour days when we can take a breath and enjoy a good 12 hour day and get to where we need to be on much calmer terms!
Not picking on you it why are you installing 2 robots to milk Jerseys when tag lane have just 1 and are selling milk for £5 per litre ? I could go on , I believe you and I both know you will be selling your own milk direct , my consultant has a farmer with a milk vending machine and he put a bench and a coffee machine next to it , the coffee machine is more profitable than the milk, again you must be aware of this because I am and I have no jersey cows , again I’m not picking on you but I really am wondering why someone such as yourself who has courted public attention would pass over that direction ?
