- or would he? Check out our no-nonsense review of new electric Eletre S.
It’s not built in Norfolk, it’s not a two-seater and it’s not lightweight. The Lotus Eletre is in fact a 2.5-tonne luxury electric SUV that’s as big as a Range Rover. Would Colin be turning in his grave or would he be thinking that the Eletre will pave the way for its success. Should you go for the Tesla Model X, Mercedes EQS SUV, or Porsche Taycan instead? Join Louise Woodhams to discover what the Eletre S is like to live with.
What’s good?
It’s fast - very fast!
Spacious and practical
Beautiful interior
What’s bad?
Porsche Taycan handles better
Over quoted range and inefficient
Some quality issues

This car stands for everything that Colin and lotus did not
I wonder what he’d think of the Lotus Emeya?! We’re driving that today so stay tuned!
Nice review and (apart from the sound) very well edited for a young CZcams channel. Well done.
Much appreciated!
It's not a lotus just an over weight overpriced appliance
Lotus in name only.
I want to know how you managed to find a day when it wasn't raining to shoot this video! ☺
Ha ha, if you look carefully in one of the in-car scenes you'll notice it is actually raining!
It's not selling because it's too expensive, it's not beautiful like the Emira and Evija, and it's supposed to be an SUV, not a high-performance track car. It doesn't look like it was designed by someone with a vision for what a great SUV should be, it looks like it was designed by a marketing research team. Also, they came into the market at about the time the bloom was definitely off the EV delusion, and now that companies have finally gotten the message that the public isn't interested, they're all going to have to rethink and redo everything they thought the public wanted. They have a huge clue in the response to the Emira, if only they'd pay attention and think.
This is an awesome review. Love your honest approach.

I’ve seen two in the wild. One in Henley-on-Thames, the other in Tetbury, outside Highgrove.
70+ performance for an suv not on the must have list for UK driving.
I wish Gordon Murray could buy Lotus and take it into the future.
There's a thought!
Yes!😢
Chapman would be fascinated. True racers just build/drive what ever is fastest. If peddling it was faster, then that's what they'd choose.
Lotus need to build an affordable electric super mini to compete with the new Alpine A290 (approx 40 grand) and the coming VW ID.2 GTi
Couldn’t agree more! We’re driving the new Emeya today… That will be twice the price and then some!
I was looking to test one. I wont bother now as I’m not convinced and it’s very overpriced. Porsche Macan GTS the better option by far.
They have sold less than a 100 in the UK. Too many other options
We struggled to find uk specific car sales for this quarter…
Lotus Tech announced financial results for Q4 and the year ended 31 December 2023.
In its first year of BEV delivery, Lotus achieved a revenue of $679m (£537m) and a gross profit margin of 15%. Revenue in Q4 was $361m (£286m), a 92% quarter-on-quarter increase.
Delivering 6,970 vehicles, the company set an annual record in its 76-year history, with BEV models representing 63% of deliveries. Vehicle deliveries in Q4 increased nearly 110% quarter-over-quarter to 3,749.
They’re not a big volume car manufacturer - and as you say there are a lot of options now.
A Tesla Y model with Lotus logos 😂
The build quality of the Lotus is infinitely better as is the interior!
Why cars have a centre screen to control everything??...they are not designed for adjustments while the driver is actually driving...been in Peugeots, Opels and Polestars....all crap.
Like us, you'll probably be pleased to hear Euro NCAP has decided, from 2026, it will award five-star ratings only to cars that retain physical controls for key features.
Don’t own a Lotus at the moment but had two in the past. Love the Emira. Hate this. Not a Lotus. Just a Lotus badge on a Chinese appliance. It’ll not sell well. Hope this doesn’t bring down Lotus.
We've not long come back from the Emeya launch - we can't give driving impressions until the embargo lifts on 2 July but let's just say we weren't disappointed!
Why did she dub the audio underwater?
I know… nightmare! Sorry. We shall do better and learn from it on the next shoots
3 Fs in EVs….. Fanboys, FleetSales and Freebies ( Govt Subsidies).
Too costly for what it delivers. Just because it goes fast, they think they can charge an arm and a leg. Nope, cause even a Volvo EX30 for $45k can do that from the same company. If it was half the price, it might have a chance in Canada. Geely is relying too much on the the Lotus brand to justify the price. In Canada, they will never sell enough of them for Lotus to have enough of a broad appeal they claim they want with a vehicle that defies everything the brand once stood for. If the upcoming sedan is priced the same way in Canada, they will lose twice the money. Why would I bother with a Lotus EV when I can get a Polestar from the same company that turns just as many heads and can run just as fast?
It's a very good point!
My kneejerk is that the car is a little too gadgety. To much tech for a car that has a limited service network.
That's an interesting viewpoint... Compared to Lotus's of old it's gadgety but I think for the price and intended buyer it's got to be.
@@DiscoverEV This car is tech heavy compared to much of the competition, not just older Lotuses. I love tech. Just saying that some of the reluctance is based on Lotus’ lack of experience in this arena, creating pressure on buyers to spend their money on more established brands.
@@CarolynTotten Lotus yes, but not Geely! You're right though - people will have this perception for sure.
I would’ve just reshot this another day. That audio is really bad.
Yes, I’m sorry. It was the only time i wasn’t monitoring it and there was a lose connection. Typical eh.
Alas, we only had the car for about 3 /4 hours and i didn’t realise until i got it back home to edit it.
lets face it,its a Chinese car with a Lotus badge.
Because EV's sucks. Nice gilf btw
The audio is just not anything I can suffer through. Why woman you re-record the voice part? A man would have
