So would the Bills. 0-4
The internet did exist back then.

Love you, Ma!
Sorry for ur loss.
Josh Maine my condolences
Man, that sucks.
Sorry for the loss. She is safe with god in heaven
I watched this game with my mom, we still talk about it like it was just yesterday.......she is in remission right now from Cancer. I couldn't imagine losing her, and I'm hoping she can live long enough to watch the Bills finally win the SuperBowl. I'm sorry to hear about your mother, may she RIP.....Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
a little sad that mr. Moon one of the greatest quarterback in the NFL never got to play in Superbowl
Never even got to a championship game.
TheLoneDraftsman actually, he won five Grey Cups from 1978-82
@@astrostar49 ...he did win a championship; in Canada....
And he's in the Hall of Fame both in the USA and in Canada.
He choked here but he was good
Frank Reich engineered the largest comeback in college football history in '84 I believe, only to do this again in the NFL years later! Crazy!
His college record has been broken, but at one time, Reich did hold the record for engineering both the biggest comeback in major-college football (Maryland down 31-0 to Miami at the half, won 42-40 in in 1984), and in the NFL.
He also had one of the biggest season turnarounds as a coach in 2018 after a 1-5 start

Why? Bad choke, but why do you have to move the team?????
@AsSeenOnTV So why are the Texans still in Houston?

@AsSeenOnTV why are the Cowboys still in Dallas????
1992 Houston Oilers: Nobody will ever choke harder than us
2019 Houston Texans: Hold my 🍺
Keith the 1992 oilers still choked harder they were up by more and were playing against a back up quarterback
1992 oilers were alot better than 2019 texans. Had houston got past buffalo they were in super bowl. Had the bills been healthy buffalo wins this game handily. Frank reich helped the deficit and no Bennett really hurt bills.
@@justinyoung8062 And Thurman Thomas didn't play in the 2nd half either.
Nah Frank Reich was backup QB and Jim Kelly was injured
Actually the Oilers didn't choke. Watch the passes from Moon in the second half compared to the 1st. He was shaving points
That crowd is electric
Orchard Park is a tough place to play as an opponent.
And it wasn’t a sellout. 5,000 seats were unsold, so it was blacked out in WNY. However, as long as you had a satellite dish & the game wasn’t scrambled, then people were in luck.
I remember the crowd whatever that was left of them left at halftime and when the Bills started their comeback they tried to come back in but was turned away at the gate. They missed one hell of a game if they would've stayed the whole way. Not really much fans when you turn your back on them when they was losing if you ask me.
Thank you
Most of us stayed, cheered till we were hoarse, and enjoyed a game for the ages
@@DAVIDCOPELLA Had to be disappointing as hell though when you guys went through this game, and two more dominant wins against Pittsburgh and Miami yet still didn’t win the Super Bowl
The fact they lost 52-17 in the end and kept turning the ball over makes me think their magic ran out

The Greatest comeback in NFL History. And it wasn’t Jim Kelly that completed this comeback, it was backup quarterback and current head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Frank Reich

@@seemoris Injury by the knee in the second to last week
Was this the Colts coach that lost to the 2-14 jags and missed the playoffs?
@@xenonmaster6668 Indeed he is
It''s crazy how quick they came back. Look at that score at the end of the 3rd quarter!
I’ve never seen a quarterback like moon come from under center starting at his left then moving to his right like that.
That was something a lot of the old school passers would do. These days no one does that from under center but it's basically what a QB does when they are in shotgun. Makes it easier to read the whole field that way.
So weird like he’s a lefty and then turns his body
Reich did it too
He didn't do it every play he dropped out to either direction. When I was little I thought Moon did that so you wouldn't know pass from run. Kinda like a pseudo Play Action where you drop back from either direction. Some of the average QBs never varied their hand offs from even Play Action. I'm saying this with zero playing or coaching experience so just take it from a grain of salt. Also, I can't imagine professionals who see game tape and know all the tells on the field. I've seen Warren Sapp say he knew some of the plays of Green Bay by the way Favre walked to the line of scrimmage, also heard Jamal Adams see the demeanor of the O-Line, or even crazier the McAffee/Polumalu C-Gap story.
You will see Reich do it in this video also
I’d give up all I own to go back to 1992 and watch this game again with my dad. Great memory!
This game stood for almost 30 years as the greatest comeback in NFL history until today when the Minnesota Vikings came back from 33-0 to defeat the Indianapolis Colts. I remembered watching this game and thinking that Frank Reich was the king of the comeback, now that title belongs to Kirk Cousins, believe it or not.
nahhhhh this is still better lol
This happened during the playoffs, so it means more IMHO
This record still remains as the largest comeback in playoff history though

The beginning of the end for the Oilers. Moved from Houston to Memphis in 97, but announced it in 96. Had terrible attendance for both years. They moved to Vanderbilt's stadium in 98. They later changed their stadium to the Adelphia Coliseum, and their name became the Titans in 1999.

The Titans would then enact their revenge on the Bills in the '99 playoffs with the Music City Miracle. The Bills didn't make the playoffs again until 2017.

The fact that the comeback was done by a back up was the most impressive thing.
Yes! Some other great backup QBs were Jeff Hostetler of the Giants and Doug Williams of Washington, both of whom went on to win Superbowls for their respective teams.
@@tablameister Steve Young too. and actually Scott Mitchell was great as a backup but not as a starter. few years later a backup named Kurt Warner did pretty damn good too.
I've followed the Bills since 1987, and Frank Reich was always a trustworthy backup. If Jim Kelly got hurt, you knew Reich was a very reliable backup, and you knew you had a very good chance to win.
@@ericbattle4597 Right, he also had the biggest comeback in college history so he was no stranger to being down big and making plays to get his team back in it. He was a VERY capable back up.

The Buffalo Bills play Wild Card Weekend versus the Houston Texan in Houston Wild Card Weekend 26 years later and I think it's like a couple days after the 26th anniversary of this game how crazy is this as a child I remember did this game on the radio because it was blacked out it Buffalo I was 7 years old at the time
It was blacked out. I remember listening to it on the radio to I was like 14
Man, the old blackout rules were a b*tch. For real.
I know NFL fans are in general attached to your team's radio announcers (back them the Bills had Van Miller), but still. There are neither tickets nor seats in the stands to everyone
EDIT: I've found out that the Bills never sold the game out on time. That rule still applies
Not ONE minute goes by without going "that would be a penalty today". I know it's about protecting individuals, but it's not the same anymore.
This game was featured on The American Football Show on Channel 4 in England back in '92. Mick Luckhurst (former kicker, Atlanta Falcons) presented the show and he couldn't believe the result either! what an incredible come-back! Great to see this up on YT to relive those emotions again. Thanks for posting!
I remember being a little kid and watching this game on an overcast day in Monterey, CA. I spent the night at my friends house and this game was on the next day. We watched it in his room on a tiny black and white, off of the antenna signal only. It was all scrambled in parts but you could still see it…that’s what amazes me about these games. You forget that people are watching all over the country and the world. I love watching these old games uploaded to CZcams. I love seeing the staton breaks. You see an ad for a TV station in a small town in Maine or North Dakota. I like to look up those station’s cities and seeing the population. The smaller the better. I just imagine a family with small children like I was at the time or a older retiree with his wife in the middle of nowhere on a stormy day, coming in off the back porch, stomping the snowy dirt off his shoes to watch the same game off of an old antenna or a satellite signal like how I’m watching in busy California.
How touching !!!!
This is the game the Run and Shoot offense died as a viable offense.
I remember watching this game on the tube when I was in the Navy. I had a couple of shipmates who were from Buffalo, NY. We were watching this game together. When Buffalo went down 35-3 in the 3rd quarter, one of the shipmates left the berthing lounge in total disgust while the other one continued to watch in the fetal position. When the Bills started to come back, the guy that stayed slowly perked up until the pulled within 11 points. He then got the other Buffalo shipmate back down to the birthing lounge to finish watching the game. Both were shocked when the comeback was complete and the Bills won in overtime.
David Reynolds the entire NFL is the run and shoot now. What the hell are you talking about??
... I remember watching this game. Absolutely incredible....
...but to lose 4 consecutive super bowls in a row; absolutely incredible....
@@chrissquire8542 Agreed
Hence why this comeback was sadly all for nothing.
Pats comeback against the Falcons will always be the greatest
I was there with my Dad (I was 9). The place started to clear out after halftime. The momentum shifted, and people started sneaking back in. They eventually opened the gates and let everyone back in. I’ll never forget that 3rd quarter or how it erupted in there when the Bills took the lead. Perfect strangers were celebrating together. It was magic. Best game I’ve ever been to.
I was 12, hardcore Oilers fan. I have always felt haunted by this game. The team moved and I follwed Moon to the Vikings. Now to see the Vikings beat the Colts 30 years later I can finally watch this game and put those demons to rest.
I'm a Vikes fan but was also an Oilers fan back in the day, especially when Campbell was there. Glad we could put those demons to rest!
The loss in the divisional to KC the following year at home is just as bad
any one else here after matt ryan blew a 33-0 lead Lol
Oh man what a way to end 2019 as a Bills fan! Perfect upload time!
Just wait till January of 2022. Bills VS Chiefs came down to overtime and the Chiefs won and didn’t give the Bills a chance.
The Bills in 2019 went to Houston - to the joint built next door to the Astrodome - and led by two touchdowns - twenty years after their last playoff game against a Houston-originated team
Best event I have ever attended. Unlike many, never thought of leaving when the game got to 35-3.
I did leave at 28-3. I didn't see the entire game until I got the DVD.
Sadly, the fans probably crashed back down to earth when their comeback magic ran out against Dallas a few weeks later
The fans that left, after the 35-3 lead, had the chance to come back to the stadium and watch the greatest comeback game. They are so lucky, they let the fans back in and there's no re-entry in those tickets.
One of the greatest games ever played
The Oilers followed this collapse up with the infamous 1993 season (see “A Football Life: the 93 Oilers”) where Buddy Ryan punched Kevin Gilbride on the sideline, and ending in their last-ever playoff game, a loss to KC after a late Joe Montana game winner. They blew the whole team up after 1993, and left Houston in 1997.
And Houston has sucked every year since with this last game being the cherry on top. The NFL shouldn't even let them play next year. They suck so bad.
This game was the death knell for the Oilers.
I wasn’t even born yet when this game happened, but it make perfect sense as they would never live this down.
Hiring Buddy Ryan, a backstabber who forever thought he was entitled to be a head coach (particularly head coach of the Bears), was a colossal error
Crazy, that was a hell of a team though.. When firing on all cylinders they were scary, thing is they never had much playoff success.
With God as my witness, I remember watching this game with 2 of my cousins. When it was 35 to 3 with the Oilers ahead I said to them "It's not enough." They looked at me thinking I was nuts. I remembered Houston blowing a 21 to 6 lead in Denver 2 years before, and I based my prediction on that very collapse. This game definitely impacted the future landscape of the NFL, as the Oilers ended up leaving Texas, and a new Houston franchise joined the league. Funny how one post-season game can have such an impact.
I live an hour from Buffalo, I remember the game being blacked out on TV as the stadium was not sold out.
Anyone else here after Minnesota dubbed the Colts?
The original Titans had bad ass jerseys tho
That was super bowl 51 back then for them they would always joke about the oilers famous 35-3 lead
YO MAMA BIN FARTIN after that super 51 comeback, I feel like more people forgot about the Bills comeback
Thanks for sticking a knife through my heart again after all these years. This and the Denver playoff loss really spelled the end for the Oilers.
Maybe, but this was definitely the dagger as they moved out of Houston only a few years later.
@@RB01.10 I always thought it was the lost to the chiefs that ended everything for them
@@FreshPrincex4 That may have been the final nail, but the seeds were already planted with this game.

I was a wide eyed 11 year old football enthusiast watching this game and rooting for Buffalo. Still one of the greatest moments I've ever watched!
Who’s here after the Vikings just came back from a *33-0* deficit against the Colts?

Bills one is better because Vikings one was against a dog shit team in the regular season and the bills came back against a playoff team (which the colts are not) in the postseason.
Oilers: we are going to win
Frank Reich: hold my beer
28-3 is iconic but deficit/time this is simply the best.
This was the most exciting game I ever had the pleasure of witnessing as it unfolded. I was a huge Bill's fan from Baltimore and we didn't have a team for 4 more years. I remember watching this with my gramps, I was 10 years old wearing my Bill's helmet and Jim Kelly Jersey as halftime came to a close down 35-3, Buffalo fans began leaving the stadium prematurely and they weren't allowed back in once Reich started chipping away at the lead. I was on the edge of my seat throughout that second half. The most unbelievable comeback in the history of the NFL hands down.
I was 11 years old at the time, gave up on my Bills at halftime and went to help my dad clean up the attic. Listening to the comeback on the radio was one of the greatest sports experiences I've ever had.
Unfortunately though I would assume it doesn’t make up for the fact they still didn’t win the Super Bowl after this
@@RB01.10 Ehh, at that point it was their third straight Super Bowl and I was like 12 years old, I didn't understand fully. I was also a Syracuse basketball and football fan and a Knicks fan, all teams that were at the very top level of competition in the late 80s and throughout the 90s but never got over the hump. I was very much committed to teams that got so close, but fell just short.
This is what everyone thinks of when they ask, “Why did the Houston Oilers move to Tennessee?” They think of when they blew the 32 point lead to Frank Reick as qb and no Thermin Thomas. The last game which happened to be the week prior, the Oilers blew them out 27-3.
