For this game we were not allowed to use the ABC audio, but we were able to find the radio broadcast by the Bills! Hopefully you all enjoy!
How come? The raído isn't bad at all
@@BigtimeSauce probably legal reasons
ABC owns the rights to the audio for all the older broadcast
Radio tends to be more descriptive than broadcast anyways because the listeners don’t get to see what’s happening, so it’s perfectly fine
@@NFLVault thanks nfl tb
Man I love the old-school dolphins logo. The fact that it's wearing a helmet is so tight lol
Right that small detail is great
@@MrEOM41There's nothing like the dolphin wearing a helmet of a dolphin on the display of that helmet. It's just literally endless! Signing off, Redskins Nation dude
PS--Dan Marino IS the best quarterback in history...HTTR forever
Still can't get over Marino's arm strength with that level of accuracy. Absolute rocket launcher of an arm.
He said where ya working out.
Yeah, me too, this was in the twilight of his career too!
That last touchdowns to the post in double coverage. I watched it 20 times and slowed it down. Unbelievable.
When Peyton brought up Marino in his HOF speech it broke me.
His arm seemed weaker here in 1998.
Reminds me of Allen
Doug Flutie was a good quarter back he deserved a better NFL run and the Buffalo bills were fools to start Rob Johnson over him🤬
Ralph Wilson was a fool. His decision.
Absolutely , from a dolphins fan I hated playing Doug Flutie , I was relieved any time Rob Johnson was in the line up
Then Flutie put a curse on us and we sucked for the next 20 years🤬
@@natestegner9917ahh yes.
The Doug Flutie low T curse~Sponsored by Nugenix
@@chewy2804 That's funny right there. 🤣
The 90s NFL had a runningback named Karim Abdul-Jabbar and todays NFL has a lineman named Michael Jordan
We also have a Kobe Bryant (albeit his name is spelled Coby) and a Michael Jackson on the same team
Coby durant to
In the 80's the Vikings had a receiver named Buster Rhymes, no joke
+20 years ago a baby boy was born into a family that loved sports
@@chadadams6052 that might’ve been Busta’s inspiration if that was 80s
In my humble opinion, the greatest era of NFL play. Perfect balance of skill, violence, and competition. Love it.✌️🇺🇸
1998 was when I first started watching football. I always have fond memories of all these players and teams. I still recognize many of them.
@@EdmacZ 1988 for me, which was the perfect time for Bills fans. Watching overpaid actors in costumes following their assignments wore me out about 15 years ago, however.
Agreed. All things considered, the 90s was probably by far the greatest quarterback era in NFL history. It was a far more physically difficult game and mentally difficult when you take into account that back in those days the quarterback had to have complete command of the offense unlike today where quarterbacks are very much more controlled by the coordinators/play callers. And let’s not even get started on these undeniably quarterback friendly and catering rules added to the game to increase scoring and inflate passing numbers 😒
@@Riles3152 Yup. Agreed
We never could stop Moulds - that guy torched us every single game. Still, as a Dolphins fan I went berserk when Trace Armstrong demolished Flutie to end the game. Great stuff.
Ole trace Armstrong almost killed Flutie on that last play. Give Flutie credit though
On the few occasions that Flutie could get him the ball.
Besides his fumble, Moulds caught 9 passes for a single game playoff franchise record 240 yards.
He was always a thorn in Miami's side.
Jimmy Johnson couldn't stop Moulds that day. That fumble on the first bomb of the game saved Miami. It wouldve been over otherwise.
He was a great receiver. he would have been a HOFer if he wasn't on those crappy Bills teams.
You see that modern day horse collar 😳 half the distance to the goal lol
How the dB could hold Moulds to prevent him from recovering his own fumble was dirty. Also horse collar and no flag definitely wouldn't fly in today's game.
AFC East was amazing that year. The Jets were the 2 seed, Miami, Buffalo and New England were wild cards. Indy (was in the AFCE in 98) had a rookie peyton manning.
Peyton talking about that rookie season vs Marino. Touched my heart to hear him talk about a beautiful skinny post.
Pre 2001 was incredible for the NFL.
aka Pre-Brady Era. Hehe
1998-2000 for me personally was a absolute treat to watch the NFL.
I loved it.
@@BAYAREA-kd1igYes it was man.
the visceral pain of reliving the jimmy johnson era of offense....watching them stubbornly try to run with no luck over and over. Putting Marino in perpetual third and longs, without a single burner to stretch the defense. Just the total mismanaged playcalling and use of weapons you will ever see from a hall of fame coach.
I think Jimmy Johnson is one of the most overrated HOFs. Dolphin fans along with Wayne Huzengia unfortunately sold their soul for JJ and it blew up right in front of fins and Huzengia faces. My grandfather quit being a Dolphins fans after Shula was kicked viciously kicked to the curb for Jimmy”the snake in the grass” Johnson and vowed the Dolphins wouldn’t sniff a Super bowl with him. I always thought Shula gave us a better shot than Johnson aka quitter
Doug flutie was the truth, he should've been the qb for the music city miracle
Every single fan thought that. Coaches knew "better"
The Bills QB was not responsible for the fwd pass also known as the Music City Miracle. Rob Johnson was no great QB, but he did lead his team to what should have been the winning field goal and then never touched the ball again. Flutie was a bit overrated simply because he was unique, but he wasn't taking that team very far in the playoffs. Nobody really knows what would have happened if Flutie started that game.
@@TheoriginalBMT Coach knew better and wanted Flutie to start. Old Man Ralph threatened Coach Wade to start Rob Johnson. The game wouldnt have come down to that last kickoff if Flutie was in there. They wouldve been kneeling down at that point.
@@peterjohnson1734 flutie was amazing, bills beat the titans if he started.
Wade himself said Flutie would have won the game. The owner was damn near senile at this point and cost his team. And the drought would ensue…
Eric Moulds actually set the NFL Playoffs single game receiving yards record this game which still stands to this day.
190 or so if I’m not mistaken
The Flutie Flakes game. Those that know, know.
That might be the craziest end to the first half i’ve ever seen:
- Dolphins intercept Flutie at the goal line
- connect on basically a hail mary with a lateral to get into field goal range
- potential go ahead field goal goes off the upright
I've been an NFL fan for just over two years and I love watching the old games and Dan Marino I've never seen such an accurate quarterback in my life, unfortunately I haven't seen him play in his era but I consider him my favorite player.
Understandable. He was a huge star. In the '90s everyone knew who he was. Even people who didn't watch football knew who Marino was.
As a Bills fan, Dan Marino was THAT DUDE. I used to be scared shitless to watch him play against my Bills.
@@nickelcityyt4026 from a Dolphins fan from Mexico for 40 years (thanks to Marino of course)... great respect for fans like you . I really, from heart, want the Bills to win it all this year. The Bills fanbase deserve it so much, its time to close the chapter of the 80's. Also, I did not liked the NFL resolution about the issue related to seed 1/2/3. It favored the Chiefs with the seed 1. I hope the Bills or the Bengals , in that order, go to the SB. To finish my comment, love for Damar Hamlin from Mexico as well.
Big dolphin and Marino fan.
He would of had so many less interceptions if they could establish a running game I swear to god.
@@davidnec571That 91 contract changed everything about football.
In some ways this Wild Card loss is more brutal than the Music City Miracle. Nothing but heartbreak for the 1990s Bills.
It is so impressive that there were still major holdovers from the early 90s: Bruce Smith, Thurman, Reed. Knowing they would all call it after next year really puts into context just how monumental a moment that next year and the Music City Miracle is in Bills history. They basically didn't recover until the McDermott era
Bruce 1985, Andre 1985, Thomas 1988
@@RichV20 oh of course, they'd all been there forever, I'm involving the years where the Bills peaked as lost dynasty
Van Miller the greatest Bills play by play announcer of all time.
Marino had an arm out off this world
Eric Moulds was an absolute beast in his prime. One of my fav Bills players ever. He would've went down as an all time great w/ better quarterbacking.
AJ Brown reminds me of him
Reed was pretty good too although past his prime here. Moulds was the guy
Imagine Josh Allen throwing to Moulds!
Doug Flutie had every right to play the 1999 AFC wildcard game against against Tennessee but sadly they benched him and well a miracle happened.
Titans got lucky flutie didn't started, or they lose.
@@hectorlopez1069 yeah they benched him
That forced fumble at the start was perfect form
I was there... What a game it was... Miss watching all those guys. Especially Danny.
I was at that game. Snuck into club level at halftime for a mixed drink and got thrown out. Still had my ripped ticket and got back in through the handicap elevator in time for the 4th quarter!!! Awesome memories
If only the horsecollar tackle penalty existed back then....
Smash mouth football era though back then !
It did exist. since the 1970s...
However, the refs didnt call the flag in this game
This announcer is spectacular!
Love listening to vintage van miller!
Lord a Mighty, I sure miss Marino!
You?
Nice to hear Van Miller's call. Flutie made some great throws but carless with the ball including twice inside the 6 yard line with no points both times.
The fumble at the end of the game, Flutie had to get rid of it as if he was sacked the clock wouldve run out. The first one at end of first half hurt big time.
Poor guy Constantly kept messing up. Calling out the wrong yard line etc
@@RichV20 both fumbles were the result of very poor blocking. Saw the replay of the first fumble, and maybe it wasn't a fumble, as he may be down when the ball got out. The INT was his fault.
Commentating was sooo much better back in the day!
The main thing I remember of this game was Jimmy Johnson smashing a box of Flutie Flakes afterwards and later apologizing because proceeds of Flutie Flakes went to charity.
That first fumble was really the difference in the game..shame because Moulds was so good for Buffalo..and could’ve had a legendary career had he actually had any decent QBs besides Flutie in his career
To be fair it was a horsecoller tackle which isn't allowed anymore ha.
This game defined the Jimmy Johnson era with Miami lol just weird things happening but made the playoffs every year except 96 and turned them into defensive team
To be fair, the dolphins missed a 27 yard field goal
The Bills in the late 90s had a very underrated defense. Sam Cowart could have been a HOF linebacker, but injuries really slowed him down greatly.
The Bills D did get their props then,
The defense was probably the best defense in football at the time. They didn't have a dynastic defense like the ravens had, but everyone knew the bills defense were one of the best.
I feel like in today's game Flutie would be given more of a chance than back in his day. If the uncoachable Kyler Murray was selected overall, I see no reason why Flutie would not be a 1st round pick and starter now a days.
Doug Flutie balled out in 98
Such a cool blast from the past! Watching Richmond Webb and Bruce Smith line up against each other was an absolute treat! Both absolutely relentless against each other the whole game, and they'd been doing that for 9 straight years by this point.
The Jimmy Johnson years were so frustrating in Miami. He built a good defense, but actively worked to neuter the offense. JJ wanted to trade Marino when he arrived in Miami and tried to supplant him with Craig Erickson. When that didn't work, he took away Marino's ability to audible because letting Marino run the offense was "going to the cookie jar". The offense became "hand the ball off to subpar RB's for 1st and 2nd down then throw the ball to slow WR's on 3rd and long." If JJ was trying to replicate the Dallas formula, he failed miserably.
id say your assessment is pretty spot on..Miami lacked run game and legit RB Marinos whole career, and once the Mark Bros left, he never had a legit #1 receiver either...Marino never lost his arm, but my God the man was slower than Brady LOL..he really couldnt move in the pocket his last 6 years or so..I still feel bad for how his last game went..62-7 L is a horrible way for a HOF career to end
@@carsonc29Marino and Jimmy Johnson in their last two playoff games in early 99 and 00, were outscored a combined 100 to 10 😩Jimmy’s biggest mistake was trying to turn Miami’s offensive philosophy into Cowboys offensive philosophy. The only problem with that was, he didn’t have Cowboys talent to affirm the philosophy.
@@Riles3152pretty much..Johnson was never able to solve the problem that Marino had his whole career....lack of a run game
I'm a Dolphins fan but also an Argos fan it's hard to root against Flutie
In general it’s hard to. Such a good person and inspiration. Lifelong dolphin fan to.
I'm a Rider fan (in the CFL) and even I liked Flutie even though he was never on our team. But the games were always exciting when he was in it. His brother Darren was a good receiver with Hamilton.
Great game. Thanks for spotlighting. Hopefully the matchup this weekend is a classic.
Moulds was an absolute beast. He was so underrated.
the play at 6:40 is impressive, in current football they would have put their knee on the ground but with a qb as a sailor those last seconds gave hope of getting more points
Nice. I vaguely remember this when I first began watching football this year during the regular season. Thanks for the upload.
Maybe this channel can upload the 1997 wild card game between the Vikings and Giants from the previous postseason. I hadn't started watching football yet, but I've heard of it, and apparently it has an exciting ending.
I remember this game. What a great player Doug Flutie was!
That Trace Armstrong sack has been seared into my memory for decades.
Flutie Flakes!
...For the right to get curbstomped by the legendary 1998 Broncos the following weekend. Miami had beaten Denver (badly), on a Monday Night game in Week 16 thus preserving the 1972 Dolphins undefeated season standing alone. (Denver lost to the Giants the week before in a fluke game). However, those two games would be their only losses, and by the divisional playoffs #1 seed Denver was firing on all cylinders, blowing Miami out 38-3 next week.
I remember when he signed with Buffalo in 98'. He was just coming off 2 Grey cups in a row. The media immediately thought he was to old and small. He proved everyone wrong! Flutie is the greatest CFL player in history and is the best QB for his size in the history of professional football.
Buffalo Bills Against Miami Dolphins Only Postseason 1992 AFC Championship Thanks For Uploading
A classic clash of the quarterbacks moment of the big dance!
The dolphins kicker had the opposite of ice in his veins in this game
That might be the Best horse collar I have Ever seen!
Nice to hear Van Miller from the radio in Buffalo.
This announcer was on something
Kirk Schultz what a name
Kurt Schulz. He knows nothing.
the Flutie curse of 2000-2017 after they benched him for Rob Johnson was well deserved.
Great game to be at. Moulds was killing us all day, thank god for Trace Armstrong.
The 4th and final playoff game between the bills and the dolphins. All 4 happened in the 90s, 2 in orchard Park, 2 in Miami. Bills went 3-1 in those games
The fifth, Jan 2023, 24 years later, back in Buffalo
At 9:58 in the video the announcer says that It was the tailback Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I did not know that Kareem also played football for the Miami Dolphins on top of being the center for the Los Angeles Lakers
Geezus, I forgot how quick Marino's release was. Tua's seems to take forever. Never seen someone so pocket savvy as Marino either. Big Ben came close.
You are not watching clearly. Tua has a very quick release. Seriously, do you know how to distinguish between quick release and waiting for play to happen. If anything Marinos short game hasn't impressed me, at least from tbis highlights. I am definitely a Marino fan.
This game as a kid was absolutely epic. Such nostalgia. The way they painted the field and the colors of the seats---beautiful.
Sad I was actually a Dallas fan then. The Bills is where it was actually at. My favorite Quaterbacks are Frank Reich and Josh Allen so yes i watched quite a few games from the past and some several times.
Van Miller was a legend
Zach Thomas needs to be in the HoF
Great call on the 2 point.
Football is always a great game regardless of which era it is.
Awesome video
Reed and moulds, what a pair.
Despite the fumble in this game, Moulds was a great one.
As a Pats fan, I hated that late 90s/early 2000's Dolphins defense. It was always so damned stacked. You had Madison, Surtain, and Brock Marion in the defensive backfield. And then guys loke Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor in the middle and up front.
I HATED that Dolphins defense because there was always so much talent rotating in and out of that team every single season.
Seeing Uncle Wayne made me smile
Man 25 years ago , and I wasn’t even born then DAMN
Just read that for the 25th(!) Anniversary the movie "Titanic" is being released BACK to the theaters so you can experience another famous historical moment..
Love the Grittiness of the Game back then
What a treat to hear van miller. Get well soon murph!!!
That laser Td to Lamar Thomas ended the WRs career his hands had to be amputated
Go bills
The first play is insane
6:36 is such an underrated play.
Welcome to Miami mr. Flutie.
Do any Giants and Vikings playoff match ups from 1993, 1997, or 2000
Awesome Football 🏈🏉 Game
Despised Flutie. Only because he played for my nemesis Calgary Stampeders (Edmonton Eskimos Fan here). Had a lot of respect for him though. Once he made it to the NFL, I rooted for him. Especially when he played for the Chargers (my fave NFL team).
I'm a Rider fan, but always liked Flutie in the CFL, even though he was never on my team. The games he played in were always exciting.
Damn, this was an exciting one. What a debacle. Buffalo played so well moving the ball but kept blowing it with turnovers
90's football. The best
For sure in today’s game they’ll definitely call that roughing the passer
Yea what a shame
Do you have more Van Miller Bills Broadcasts?
I really liked the red bills helmets. Want it back.
Dan Marino threw absolute darts.
Facts!
The game was much more physical back then and back when u can hit the QB.
Why did they change sides after the first quarter, and then stick with the same sides for the 2nd & 3rd quarter?
I thought they change signs only at halftime.
That def was a TD by Andre Reed. but... butterfly effect, who knows if they recover the onsides kick.
Except prob wasn’t. He he took forever to just reach out and tried to power in instead and knee looked to go down first. No replay back then. Plus no excuse to ever touch a ref. Classic reed running a short route even to short.
@@GlennShook Obviously you can't touch the ref... but that was a TD. And I realize Reed was an asshole... still, can't really mock him for going over the middle - very tough to do -- especially back then
Holy Cow
Watching this after Zach Thomas got into the hof
I remember this game that play were Andre Reed rejected should have been a touchdown so then they would have only had to kick a field goal to tie it. They didn't have instant replay back then?
What were each QBs final stat line?
Go dolphins cool see hold stuff like this
The Bills turned it over too many times. Exciting game with a lot of veteran players in the twilight of their careers.
He rocked flutie ass on the last play 😂😂😂
ON GOD!!!
Holy shit. He laid that mf down like. Surprised he got up Armstrong gave him hell holy shit
the last playoff games of marino vs bills and seattle were dramatic with the illusion of winning a superbowl for dan, sadly the dolphins would be beaten in the next round vs broncos an jaguars respectively
