This has been noted by the Red Bull’s executives Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, the chief of drivers’ development program. But what is it that made the Mercs competitive again, and have they fixed the porpoising problem once and for all? More importantly, is the team now competent to match the tempo of Red Bull and be a direct threat, just like last year? These and many more questions will be answered in the video, so stick with us until the very end!

POLL: Does Mercedes still stand a chance to win the Constructors in 2022? 👇
They could, LH seems to have found back his pace!

As a Lewis supporter, it seems to me that Mercedes can write this year off, unfortunately! Given competitive equipment, Lewis has proved to be unbeatable but this latest hardware still needs further development.
There still could be a comeback tho after he clinched P3 at Silverstone! Don’t lose hope!
@@gpcentral one should make some simulation to show us how normally one has to win at least 6/7 races to be world champion … which seems unlikely at the moment for LH !! The nice thing with Lewis he tries always to be better during the race then qualification .. so Austria Grand Prix was not that do bad as Mercedes engine are not at their best performance in altitude.. and he finished third with a very bad pit time of almost 4 seconds … so well the champ still the champ who knows !!!
@@Kassiusday maybe Mercedes can pull a RB in 2013 but a miracle has to happen with the car for Lewis to do a Seb lol
@@fluent4530 yes you right !! but again I feel that the next 11 races will see Mercedes battling closer and closer : and when Hamilton is on the top P, position /// nothing is impossible .. is the only one so far now who have overtaken 2 cars in one go !!! HAHAA!! 🤣🤣… with more pace he could have settled his position !!
given competitive equipment many of the drivers would be the same. Funny that MB managed to find a solution to their porpoising without FIA engineers , no more whining for the balance of the year.
Yeah, Hamilton isn't done yet. The champion has so much more in his tank!
He sure does! Took P3 today, insane battle!
For sure! He’s definitely not at his prime yet!
@@gpcentral True. Russell has just been extremely lucky
@@jeremysimpson4584 I know 😂. Was being sarcastic. Like what 7 time champion gets consistently beaten by a driver not in his prime? 🤦🏻♂️
@@jeremysimpson4584 Hamilton and Russell had different packages, once they used Russell’s package on Hamilton’s car, I believe in Canada, Hamilton outperformed GR. 7 championships, and losing 1 by 1 point, and one in the last lap due to controversy, can’t all be luck for Lewis..
The Toto Lewis team never gives up. The terminators will be back in the second half. Red Bull and Ferrari couldn’t finish the game. And now they’ve left that door open. Still he rises.
Toto Wolff definitely is a FIGHTER 💯
sorry LOL
Umm…no.
Yawn…. Where are you guys?
As much as I respect Hamilton, I must say the competition is very tough this season, red bull and Ferrari is hard at work, so don't be fooled, also the other drivers are putting up a good fight.
Yup very true!
with due respect, Competition was always there. Denying it wasn't is undermining likes of Vettel and RB. I have no idea why RB winning 4 successive titles suddenly became also ran after Vettel left. but that puts stop to the debate who is important to win the trophy- driver or the car? we can not single out as they can't win without each other.
Porpoising issue caused problems to merc and others. Merc too the rules literally and now it traspires RB & Farrari bent the rules
Well, he's gained momentum now with an amazing pace in Silverstone. That Mercedes looks scary! I think we finally have a proper three-way fight!
Absolutely! Mercs upgrades def showed better pace!
Qualified 5th and finished 3rd after Max suffered floor damage, and then Hamilton took forever to overtake LeClerc with worn out hard tires and a damaged front wing. Was passed with ease by Checo as well. "Amazing pace" indeed. The Mercedes might look scary to Alpine, McLaren and Haas though. Anybody with functioning eyes can say that Ferrari and Red Bull are way faster. And let's not forget that all tracks won't be smooth with high and medium speed corners like Silverstone.
@@akarshshekhar5233 I’m Red Bull fan all the way, but he was catching up to both Ferrari’s on medium tire and was just 0.1s slower in the first couple of laps when Ferrari pitted for new tires.
Russell is faster.
@@akarshshekhar5233 How are you so right, and be so far from the truth?? Like god damn. Left every important thing out, and talked about race position, and not why he was in that position. In quali, they had a shot for pole (mainly lewis) but the team asked them to do one more out lap, and to push on their final laps. Unfortunately for the drivers, the rain came down a lot more, and Lewis’s brakes were too cold, while Russel made too many mistakes because of the poor conditions. In the race, Hamilton was single handedly the fastest man on track and would’ve won the race had it not came down to the safety car (again) and Lewis had a a bad restart, and getting caught up in a fight with Norris. That allowed the Red Bulls and Ferrari’s to create a gap. Once Lewis passed Norris, he began gaining in the Ferraris every lap, and getting the fastest laps multiple times in a row. Sainz and Leclerc pitted just after he had caught up. After the restart, that helped Perez get back up in the fight, but both Perez and Max were absolutely dirty. Pushing their competitors wide, cutting some corners, and getting an advantage from it, and not get a penalty. Sergio pushed Leclerc wide multiple times, and pushed Hamilton for second place. Only reason Lewis didn’t win after the safety car is because of the battle. Carlos was able to escape it first and build a gap, then Sergio escaped after, and then Lewis escaped after battling with Leclerc. Because of this, Sergio and Carlos had a large gap, however Lewis was gaining in them a few tenths a lap. Sadly for Lewis, there wasn’t enough racing laps, and he had to settle for third after closing down the gap to a huge 3 seconds from 6 seconds, in like 4 laps
Well I've seen the sprintrace at the Red Bull circuit today and I don't think they can believe they are fast enough yet. I don't think Max went flat out, because Charles and Carlos were fighting behind him and still George came in more than 13 seconds later. Not to speak about Lewis, who had so much trouble overtaking Mick and "arrived" after more than 35 seconds later.
Having seen Q3 friday it looks to me the Merc is very tail difficult and unpredictable when it reach the limits.
The RedBull and Ferrari advantage has been proven to be the flexing safety plank issue. The plank has always been put there to stop cars from running too close to the floor after Senna's death back in 1994, it is a safety feature that has always been revered by engineers as sacrosanct, finding a way around a well established safety rule to gain a performance advantage, is why the FIA are putting a stop to it. I'm surprised they have not been penalised as the safety plank is a big deal in F1. Basically the closer a car gets to the ground the more the downforce it has, but it is not a linear increase in downforce, it increases exponentially, so if a car is too low, even a slight change in height from driving over a bump in the track, can cause a sudden massive loss in downforce, which if it happens on a fast corner will send the car straight off the track with no warning. If the plank is flexing it is allowing the car to ride a height below safety regulations and could be very dangerous. Mercedes didn't even know that RedBull and Ferrari were doing this, the FIA found out themselves. Apparently there were very stern words from the FIA, because just saying they were 'exploiting loopholes in the laws' is no defence when dealing with a 28 year old safety law that was put in place after such a tragic accident.
you say- I'm surprised they have not been penalised - simple answer- Mohmed/Masir/RB= in one pocket-and last lap of the last race
Red Bull can run their car much higher than others and it doesn’t affect them…Spa for example. So all that junk you typed out makes no sense.
@@danieleidet7131 Red Bull can run their car much higher than others because RB was allowed to get away with M r. nothing new there ...
Red Bull is not scared of any one
Forget about catching Redbull or Ferrari . First they have to overtake Hass and Alpine 😂😂
LOL!!!!!!
totally mercedes should be scared of alpine
Lewis saying the straight line speed of the Haas is crazy 🤣. He had such a good view of both
True, RB are shaking in their puma trainers…..
LMAO
Mercedes can catch Ferrari no question. But RedBull… that’s a stretch at this point. I’m a Mercedes fan but in order for that to happen there would have to be an extreme melt down at RB.
Yeah it's abit sad to see this! Do you think there's still a chance Mercs can win the title this year tho?
@@gpcentral no, RB is dominatong this year, no chance merc will do something.
@@gpcentral We will see when the plank flexibility advantage is removed from RedBull and Ferrari, maybe they will have to endure the long development pain that all of the other compliant teams have had to endure to stop porpoising, without flexing the safety plank. The answer will lay in how both of those teams fair after the change, they may cope with it OK, who knows, I am hoping that all three teams are nearly level pegging at the last race of the season, but that's just pie in the sky...
Mercedes have managed the porpoising to a point where they are almost competetive. If others have managed it with an illegal floor then when those goodies are taken away they coiuld be where Mercedes were at the start of the campaign.
Very true point! Let’s just hope bottoming out does not cause another issue there!
It was not a illegal floor...the fia changed the rules halfway through the season because Mercedes could not make a car that was not bouncing....ferrari ,red bull, mclaren, haas, alpine, alfa romeo all managed it....and people say ferrari run the fia..what a joke!!!!
@@andrewtorrens947 Your comments a joke. Two teams have found a loophole in the regs to build a component that is not within the spirit of the rules. All the teams you list have slower cars than the front two probably because they cannot run the car as low.
I can't wait to see what will Toto's instruction be when Lewis and Russel get head to head with each other???
In the words of Horner “Let Lewis Go…“ what do ya think? Haha
Depends on the situation tbh unless they are fighting for a championship probably the fastest will have the pass to overtake
You must admit, he and George are catching the scraps when Ferrari and or RB have a bad day, there is nothing in the Mercedes to get a podium on merit.
Yeah well being consistent and reliable goes a long way tho

Yes! We finally see improvements from Hamilton!
absolutely! After a long wait!
@@jeremysimpson4584 Fresh softs vs old hards, yes! Also, LeClerc had a broken front wing. Mercedes is only getting podiums when Ferrari or RB drivers have issues.
Stop with this improvement bs Lewis was running a different Experimental setup than Russell in the beginning of the season why don’t you people understand this isn’t f2 spec racing each car in f1 is Uniquely setup and engineering is the other 60 percent of the race
@@n.b.5258 that’s part of racing it’s a team sport if Ferrari has damaged oh well if red Bull Dnf Mercedes choose a bad strategy it’s all part of the race it’s not the luck of the draw.. Ferrari and red Bull built a faster car this season Mercedes didn’t however they did build a more reliable car that’s part of the race as well I can’t with you dts fans
Wondering when I will ever see an article about Mercedes approaching the cost cap limit? Apparently making upgrades every week doesn't seem to count for them like it does for everyone else, at least in the media 🤔
hmmm yeah that would be very interesting to find out as well! How much do you think they used so far?
Their car just isn’t breaking like everyone else so they can spend money on going faster!
They are having 1000 people thinking about the car. They have their salary with or without upgrades. They manly have to pay for the material in addition. The production facility is in their own shop. Upgrades manufactured internally aren't that costly. External upgrades is a different story.
They put the first major upgrade on in Barcelona I believe. Red Bull by that time had tried several new upgrades and both Ferrari and Red Bull have had multiple dnf’s. If you remember Mercedes’ kept acknowledging they weren’t going to try anything expensive on the car till they understood what particularly in they’re aero package was causing the porpoising issues. When the fia allowed another floor still and as more time has passed, they’ve made the porpoising manageable and applied an upgrade which has seemed to work.
In my eyes Lewis was 2021 F1 champion

Na... Nothing to be afraid of whatsoever... Formula 1 is more than a driver. There's race pace, strategy and the budget cap...
They may start to chip away at the front runners time. But the W13 is overall a temperamental car. Its strange that they've more or less conceded that adopting a proper sidepod design like the rest is the way to go.
So who knows W13 is a testbed for a beast when its time to make the W14.
Very possible there! But their "testing" is costing them a championship title!
Mercedes is looking good, in Silverstone Hamilton looked like a champ. But there’s a few things to not forget from Sunday:
1. LeClerc with better tires would have won the race.
2. Verstappen had not damage his floor would not have finished in P7.
So Hamilton position would be affected at the end, and P3 would have been far from him. I saw his car 0.3 or 0.4 seconds still behind. Even with Mercedes improving, if they not move before the break, they’ll have to conform with the 3rd place.
Great analysis there Alejo!
But tyre wear would have been the decider, with Lewis extracting more from the tyres than the Ferrari's, I think it would have been a Mercedes win without the safety car.
@@souldom99 really? but Perez was already attacking really strong
@@gpcentral it was only the safety car that put Perez in contention, Ocon really should have gone into the old pit lane as he was never making it back.
Do you not look at data? He definitely was not .3 or .4 slower in silverstone. He was faster most of it . A misaligned strategy, slow pit stop and the late safety car is the best cause that he didn’t actually win.
Mercedes spent ALOT on money on upgrades getting to this point. And a lot of their computer time. And are still .2-.3 seconds slower
Oh well… what do you think would make them faster?
At this point i think their next upgrade will be engine a upgrades since they are almost through with this propoision

As the cars will not change that much and engines are frozen till 2026. I think this would a plan to hit 2023 hard from the get go..

No worries bud! Still a good video nonetheless. I was listening while driving so I was really in tune. Haha. Keep up the good content!
Never underestimate the goat
Absolutely 🐐
1. Your info is super out-of-date. I have to guess it took u a while to get this published
2. You seriously need to learn how to say "Sainz" and "Porpoise" correctly cuz its cringe. Pro Tip: Google has a "Listen" icon
Thank you so much for the feedback! We’ll work on improving! 🙏🏻
Mat the Force be with Sir Lewis Hamilton!
Yes sir!
fia is worried!!! and others cant wait for him to get whats his . and if you wanna take it from him do it like a man. there is no champion.
totally, still seems like 2022 is not his season
Lewis is not a 7 times world champion because he gives in,vestappen got his given,I was talking to Lewis on the f1show at Silverstone 2weeks and there no sign of him giving in to a total thief like max slackgob.HE Will Rise Again.keep the faith, long way to go 🏁🏁🏁🏁
I’m sure he would!
This didn't age well.
Why not?
For me, there is nothing sweeter than Hamilton rubbing Horner and Marko's noses in their cheap shots.
Absolutely there!
Absolutely no one is afraid of Hamilton this season
@norman-m [KANDAGAIGO] brother no one is scared of lulu
Verstopen...what's wrong with you?
Hamilton is an amazing driver. One of the best, but this seasons start and upgrades show that the car, not the driver are to praise for their success. That you Mercedes engineers!
Absolutely the car itself plays a huge role!
@norman-m [KANDAGAIGO] LOL true there! but both play an important role!
@norman-m [KANDAGAIGO] most drivers would become world champion in that mercedes against bottas i am sure
@norman-m [KANDAGAIGO] that mercedes was so good, iam 100% sure most of the driver would have had multiple wdcs with that car against bottas
@norman-m [KANDAGAIGO] thats not what i am saying im just saying if lewis did not race for mercedes than any other decent driver would have gotten multiple wdcs. im not saying lewis is bad just saying that alot of drivers would have beaten bottas and won multiple wdcs. and max and lewis are just from a differnt level in comparison to the other drivers
lol that didnt age well
bruh no one is scared of mercedes or hamilton this season. if anything they should be scared of russel whom even with a slow car has been consistently beating hamilton getting p4s p5s and p3s except maybe for the last pair of races
Don’t forget, they still can win the constructors without winning any race. Even on Sunday, Mercs bagged the most points home.
this will age like milk
No doubt 💯
You should get a narrator who knows how to pronounce words, names correctly.
yeah we've feedback on it! thank you!
AND THERE'S HAMILTON at p8
and there a p3
@@adolftorrealba567 and 45sec behind the redbull and ferrari
very far a part lol
Afraid?? Please😂
Why not? They are more reliable now too!
@@gpcentral Huge respect, most definitely. But afraid? Hell no. 3rd Fastest at best. I’m not ruling out future podiums or race wins for Lewis. But at the current moment, they aren’t in the same league as Ferrari and Red bull
@@gpcentral reliable is cute but they lack pace
Lewis who ?
Hammmm
Interesting mis-pronounciation of a lot of words. Mercedes isn't "bluffing" it is called "sandbagging". Pretending to be slower than you are.
Pronunciation.
the crying and whining helped
Lewis crying or?
Because redballs car blows up next race and max dies illuminati unleakead
😅
What a joke , Lewis is finished has a F1 driver
🤣🤣🤣
@@gpcentral I told you people Lewis Hamilton is finished has a driver, see he crushed…Lewis never a great driver…the car he has did all the hard work for him in the past. Now he’s complaining about opposition car what a loser and Toto as well.
