While definitely spoiled, Charlotte loved Tiana. She did not have to get to know the daughter of her seamstress but she did and she kept that relationship strong even after they grew from children. Tiana is her first to go to when it comes to good news and she gave Tiana an excessive amount of money for the beignets, knowing that she would only accept it from work. She actually smiled and cheered when she saw how happy Tiana was at getting her restaurant before making a quick escape with her father. Then at the ball, she didn’t assume Tiana messed everything up and expressed explicit concern at her distress. PLUS she had a blue dress when we all know Charlotte lives in pink exclusively, so she definitely held onto it for Tiana. Then there was the ending where she gave her own desire to be a princess because she recognized that Tiana found love and knowing how Tiana is, it was not an easy thing.
    Charlotte rocks.

You know what I love about Lottie? Despite being spoiled by her father she still has a heart of gold. In so many pieces of media the rich kid is often portrayed as snooty and rotten, but Lottie here, while acting somewhat selfish from time to time does what's right even if it means not getting her happy ending. Also, here's a couple of fun facts about how good of a friend she is toward Tiana: When Tiana says she's close to getting the restaurant she wants, knowing she's a hard worker and wouldn't accept a handout, Lottie asks her to make a ton of her desserts for the party and pays for them. And when she gives Tiana the dress, notice how it's blue and fits her perfectly. Lottie is obviously a fan of pink, so it would only make sense that she had the dress made for Tiana so she would have something nice to wear.

Dr. Facilier is one of my favorite Disney villains.
Though his backstory is very vague, you get the sense from that conversation with Lawrence that he grew up poor, and that caused him to turn to black magic to try to scheme his way to riches.
Not only that, but even with his magic his greatest weapon is always his charisma and how he draws you in to make a deal with him. He even manages to make sound like he sympathizes, and even respects Tiana's dream during the temptation segment, to the point where she almost considered taking the deal for a moment.
That and his theme song is just *chef's kiss* best villain song Disney ever made.
Also fun fact, originally Dr. Facilier was going to be revealed to be Mama Odie's son who turned to the dark side, and they were going to have a big magic battle in the climax, but they decided against it in the end.

"I wonder if theres any backstory to this character too!" Fanfic writers: "It's free real estate!" (Though I think Word of God say he was an apprentice to Mama Odie before turning to the darker kind of Loa(or "Friends on the Other Side").

Post 1: i got to tell you I love Tianna and Charlotte’s friendship. They are complete opposites but they enjoy spending time with each other and are supportive of each other. While Charlotte did use her dad’s money for Tianna’s beneigts, it led to Tianna buying her restaurant. Even when Charlotte was having fun with the prince, she immediately stopped and helped her best friend. She even have her a pretty dress that suited her. I hate films where friends give the other friend an ugly dress because insecurity. Charlotte didn’t do this. The best part is Charlotte sacrificed her dream of marrying a prince seeing how happy Tianna and Naveen were and was resentful about it.
Tianna did not call her friend anti-feminist (whatever term they used in the 20s) for going after the prince. She was happy for her. She did not make her guilty for being privileged either.
This is why they are one of my favorite Disney friendships. They added to the feminism of the film.

Idk if either one of you noticed that Disney does this easter egg thing eith their animations, where they hide parts of previous Disney animation themes or characters within another movie.
At the big ball there were a slew of Disney easter eggs hidden in the costumes.
    1. Zorro
    2. Aladdin
    3. Toy Story
    4. Hercules (the dad)
    5. I think the saxophone could be from Fantasia....I don't remember.
    6. Lottie was dressed as Cinderella.
    7. I think Tiana was Maid Marian from RobinHood ( I believe this movie is a disney property).
    8. Mama Odie had the key to Cinderella's tower room in her hand with the candy she pulled from her pocket, when she offered them some candy.
    END
The animation was so rich in color. Sadly, it was the end of the 2D era. But it was done so beautifully, that it does make my nostalgia long for more of it.
The music score and songs sung....top shelf. Especially, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana. Her voice is incredible. It really shines in that "Almost There" song.
Keith David as Dr. Facilier, I loved. Been a fan of him, and his voice since the 80's. You can't mistake it. Some people may remember he did voice animation back in the day as the leader of The Gargoyles in the cartoon.
I've also been a long time fan of Jenifer Lewis who played Mama Odie. Although, this was the first time I've heard her use that voice she used for the character. I'm used to hearing her powerhouse voice of someone not to be played with. She's really hilarious. Loved her ever since I seen her on "A Different World" many years ago. Now, she's the grandmother on the tv show "Black-ish".
The talented cast is just unmatched. They even got Oprah to voice Tiana's mother. Even for his small part, Terrence Howard really sold the father as a warm hearted loving man who adored his family. Very wholesome.
But you know Disney and their dark habit of killing parents and orphaning the protagonist. I get it has to do with Walt Disney himself, and his back story, but come on. We are in a new Century. Can we keep the parents alive some times?
I liked that they didn't shy away from showing the times of the era by showing life in the 20's through the trolly window. How they transitioned from rich neighborhoods to the zoning of black people in a poorer side of town. The matching hut houses, that once used to shelter as slave quarters, said a lot about American history in that shot.
Although, it has a lot of pluses here, there are some negatives.
I thought it sort of coward with not making her friend one of the antagonists, because she is white. If it were two females of the same color, they would have went there, but it's like they walked on eggshells to not make the white female the villain so they wouldn't upset viewers that would be upset about her being one. I'm like, most rich people from that era had an entitled mindset and a vocal attitude that they were better than.....so it would have made sense if Lottie would try to wedge between Tiana and Naveen if she thought they had chemistry, but she wanted him because she didn't think Tiana was worthy of having him, because of what she is.
    They went the safer route.
I've even noticed some of those mentioned viewers who have left comments that try to undermine the main character and give pedestal praise to Lottie over Tiana. Or make some "this is leftist" type of comment because they are obviously of the other party. Don't hate messages of political accuracy being put into a movie if it has to do with race....but have nothing to say if it talks about other political/social things, like misogyny, attempted murder and/or betrayal by a supposed ally.
Although I loved this movie.... (I even got to name my niece and named her Tiana, so she'll have a Disney Princess of her own to feel a connection of representation.), I will have to agree with the dissatisfaction that this is the only Disney Princess that spent most of her movie not in her own skin. Tiana was a frog for almost 2/3 of the movie. There was a backlash about it, because it seemed sus af.
