Boy was I wrong in my initial impression of Minelab releasing a Single Frequency Device. I incorrectly assumed that the X Terra Pro would land at a plus $600 MSRP but at $269, Minelab has tipped over the Apple Cart and fired a Volley across the bow and this is really a great idea and fine product. Mea culpa. I confess my misgivings and initial reaction to the X Terra Pro. The US Domestic manufacturers have be concerned. While they have seemingly become somewhat less involved in embracing the new technologies they are being passed by not by $1000+ Devices but by a sub $300 machine outperforming their most popular products in performance quality and price. My 2¢.
Thanks Calabash! You da man. Can’t wait for the Live Show!

I would not expect it to mat h Deus 2 ops for iron/nonferrous separation.
Don’t think Exterra would match Manticore either.
Just remember the price differences. Large.
Question should be how does it compare to other single freq VLFs that run in 13-15 kHz?
Depth wise we have already seen one example.
So No XTerra won’t be a Deus 2, Deus 2, EQX series or even a Deus 1 killer.

But my question is( and I do love my old Nox 600) but what is it that can justify the xterra being $269 and Manticore $1,600? Looks like the xterra can handle the beach, is submersible and has decent depth.

Sadly the AT Pro is a 13 year old machine and it doesn't seem like Garrett will introduce any new machines to compete any time soon. 5 yrs from now the At Pro will still be in demand. Its actually so popular now, and you still have one, because it trusty, Stable Id, and yeilds the finds, and thats what its all about. I guess we"ll have to see if the x terra yeilds deeper finds out in the wild. I would still choose at pro if either was offered. Ive tried most of the newbies under $ 300 and all were mostly unstable, jumpy ID numbers and favored shallow targets in hard compact soils. But this one will be differant? Time will tell. And in another 5 yrs the new kid on the block will have to go up against the at pro.
