Even all these years later whenever I see the BBC advertising the 'sports personality of the year' awards I still hear in my head Patsy going 'a contradiction in terms'... It's so so true for a lot of the monosyllabic boring lot who have actually won the award.

I had the great pleasure of being security detail for Ms. Lumley about around 2013 or so, and I have to say that along with Dame Emma Thompson (and her adorable Mother, Phyllida Law!) she’s exactly how you would imagine her to be: affable, graceful and very down to Earth. Super sweet, gorgeous and lovely - all of the above were tbh.
Another pleasant surprise was Russell Brand. Considering how hyper he is when he’s “on”, he’s such a sweet and gentle guy offstage - when you’re talking with him he’s super-engaged and makes you feel like you’re the only person in the room. That’s not a talent, that’s a gift. He may have gone off the rails a little this past year or two leaning a little too far into conspiracy theories, but I do believe his heart is in the right place and he’ll find his way back. Kindness, empathy, intention and integrity matter - all too often these are rare things to find in show-business sadly.
Sometimes a famous personality can appear rude or aloof upon first meeting them, but you pick-up quite quickly those whom are just shy, quiet and private or just super-focused on the job ahead. Learning how to navigate that space and be respectful of it was never boring! It’s quite a thing to watch someone be able to switch it on when they need to go to work and head out on stage, which was always kind of magical to witness - a “good” example (although I appreciate at the other end of the “fame” scale!) of this was Roy “Chubby” Brown. While I’m not a fan of his style of humour (or indeed his political views) off-stage he’s the nicest guy - and for someone who swears so much on stage he could make a Sailor blush, he won’t offstage and doesn’t like his crew doing so either.
Yet these examples aside, there are those that do think themselves above their station and they never fail to stick out like sore thumbs it has to be said.

For those that don’t know this whole scene is a spoof of the original ITV breakfast service TVam, who produced the original “Good Morning Britain” in the 1980s and controversially lost their broadcasting license in 1992 along with a number of other major ITV stations like Thames.

Sure you can have too many hats. Mom used to buy me baseball caps all the time, but I never wear them. My uncle (mom's brother) does, but he always forgets his hats somewhere. Every time we meet, I give him a stack of baseball caps. That was a completely pointless story. I can see that now.

When I was a kid in the 90's, I named my pet guinea pig after Patsy. My chubby guinea pig was named after a chain smoking, withered, sassy alcoholic. My Patsy was fucking brilliant darling.

As much as I loved the show, I've always wondered what it would've been like if Saffron embraced her mother's way of life instead of shunning it. Granted, she was friends with a Spice Girl but....
I think it would have been less funny. Edina and Patsy are so over the top, you need a character who's calm and grounded and disapproving. That's part of why it works.
@@WillowJordan1979 Well...you're right. Edina used to ENCOURAGE Saffy to act out. I just wanted one role reversal show. Just to see how it would play out. Like when Bubble began being super efficient and it bothered Eddy.

It's not that funny in isolation. If you've never watched the show, it's probably a bad place to start, even if you've seen a few clips. It still doesn't pack the same funny punch as it would, plus it's the bits after and before that have all the lols.
TBH it's not a great upload choice, unless you are a fan. I enjoyed as a blast from the past Ab Fab almost killed me with pain in my sides 🤣 😃 🤣 😃

This is a hard show to get into until you’ve identified with the characters.
