Judo is incredibly underrated, specifically as a form of self defense. Outside the gym, you wont be getting tossed onto a soft mat. It will be concrete, tile or asphalt.

If you look closely I think the judoka got a no gi Ezekiel choke. That's why he tapped.
Is more like a no gi, kata juji jume..
@@abbisgm3453 Not to be nitpicking but Kata juji jime? I've never heard of anyone doing a cross choke with out using clothing material. However there is a method of doing a sode guruma jime(Ezekiel choke) without a gi. A recent example is Aleksei Oleinik in UFC.
@@jkmartialarts5925 and where do you think the inspiration came from?? Why people think Bjj is?? Is just a technical version of judo!! That’s what they did make just more technical with few techniques but it come from judo!! They just take techniques from judo check the history ma G.. hey you heard of judo newaza??
You know I was investigating a bit more and I’ve founded the answers the choke actually come from Sode Guruma Jime and was done by the JUDOKA Ezequiel Paraguassu who decided to do the choke from full Mount in a judo newaza competition and he passed the choke to the Gracie school because Ezekiel was a Brazilian judoka. But one think I was right.. it came from judo like always!!!
@@abbisgm3453 I do Judo not BJJ. I said Ezekiel choke because people understand that more than the Japanese name from Judo.
People don’t give judo enough credit
Because they are ignorant and bias
They do
Bruh. 🧢.
I especially liked that last throw. A lot of people will say that judo relies too heavily on the gi, but this clearly shows that a clean throw can be pulled off with regular clothes. Excellent knowledge to have.
I used to practice judo. It's true, there's a lot of gi work. It should be considered as more of a training tool and people should practice without gis occasionally also.
@BargainChad There is no-gi Judo, and Judo had plenty of leg attacks before the Olympics watered down the style. They were afraid it looked too much like wresting, so they took out a pile of moves. Now you have to seek out classic Judo trainers to get proper training. Or just take wrestling as well.
@@justinwallace269 Well, I trained in GI judo. I think taking off the gis would be better after some initial training. I feel like I learned some very fundamental things there. I even learned what the my Sensei called "sacrifice" throws. The ones where you throw your own body weight to the floor as a counterbalance to launch them across the room. I got pretty boss at those for a minute. Haven't done it in a decade.
@@BargainChad GI Judo is still good because most people will have clothes on in real fights on the street, so it's valuable learning. I just like No-Gi for learning to manipulate the body in case I run into someone wearing loose clothes that don't have enough resistance. I'm not a fan of sacrificial throws because it's really rough on the body to do that on pavement, and I really try to avoid going to the ground, but I they're effective for competition. Really great for a surprise throw. I'm in the same boat as you because I haven't done any of this in ages. I honestly can't wait to get back to it all. Gotta get in shape first!
@@BargainChadI call sacrifice throws "fat guy" throws, cause I only use them when I'm in winded desperation mode 😂

Judo guy definitely has ground experience. Looked like he hit a 100% sweep to get from closed guard to the mount.
yeah that was definitely a 100% grip, and he almost has a scissor motion added to it to help out
@@elenchus !00% for sure
We do newaza in Judo. It has more of a focus on maintaining top control than fighting for submissions, but it's honestly more practical for MMA.
All judo guys have ground experience
I learned most of my ground game /submission in judo.
I was shocked that the boxer attempted to throw the judoka. It resulted in exactly what I would expect.
Boxing and judo actually a good combination
Sambo and judo
Yes
@@judo_junctionsambo already has judo
the older I get, the more I feel like if you can find a solid judo gym that has no gi practices at least a couple times a week (on top of your regular training), and you're only going to learn one martial art, judo may be the best. You really don't need much ne waza to get by IRL. But I'm always conflicted because judo is in this constant state of shrinking.
Totally agree!
even if there isn't a no gi class, learning how to control and break down someones posture, even without throwing them, is huge. You can knee, elbow, punch. Either way, I'm right there with you.
You don't need a no gi class, it's really intuitive to use gi judo on a shirtless man. Plus, how often are you fighting shirtless men?
@@SeanWinters "Plus, how often are you fighting shirtless men?"
Well, it's MMA, so virtually 100% of the time. I suppose in the rare situation like the above video where you're in an MMA fight outside in Germany in the snow your opponent might wear a shirt though, not that you can reliably use a shirt the way you can a gi.
Jokes aside, shirts aren't gis, and the problem is actually even worse than that. Most shirts (t-shirts, dress shirts, polo shirts) just tear under the pressure of judo; t-shirts tend to stretch to no end. In neither case do they allow you to use your kumi kata effectively to set up throws or to even execute some throws (morote seoi nage, for instance). In some situations a heavy coat might be adequate. I mentioned the problem was actually worse than shirts generally though; even most gis just rip under the pressure of a judo throw. I used to spar with karateka and TKD guys pretty often using judo and their lightweight canvas gis would just rip in my hands rather than support their weight during a throw.
Making matters yet worse, most of judo's submission arsenal is based on gi chokes, most of which won't work well or at all with a shirt on (although they would probably work with a karate/TKD gi still).
"You don't need a no gi class"
Totally true if you plan to only compete in judo. As we've seen in jiujitsu, no gi fighting is so vastly different from gi fighting that it's basically an entirely separate specialty.
"it's really intuitive to use gi judo on a shirtless man"
It isn't, at least not for me or anyone else I've ever known. People kind of imagine just putting an underhook in and throwing, but in real randori, you're constantly using grip fighting to set up your throws, even throws that do not necessarily require gi grips to execute. If some guy just stands there and lets me set it up, I can do many judo throws just fine, but actually getting there against someone fighting back is difficult without that additional training. In some cases the grips have to be changed quite a lot to make a throw work.
It can be done, of course, it's not as if someone that knows judo is useless against an opponent without a gi, not at all; but they aren't even close to as good as they could be with the additional training, which is why we see the rise of no gi jiujitsu training almost everywhere now. It used to be the standard dogma that no gi was sort of a bonus kind of training, to be pursued only after mastery of the gi, but for the last 15+ years we've known that gi training simply does not prepare you adequately for no gi competition, to the point now where there are whole styles of no gi jiujitsu (such as 10P).
I read that it’s only shrinking in the US because of bjj when in reality bjj is just Ne Waza
at the end when they kinda hugged like for respect , I know for a fact that judoka though "I could LAUNCH you right now lol "
True 😇
I've trained in Judo (34 years) and BJJ (10 years). I would say the amount of attention devoted to throws and submissions in Judo is 60% throws and 40% ground. In BJJ it's reversed. I've dabbled in MMA though, so I have a lot of respect for boxers.
I've also trained judo and BJJ. I would say in judo it's around 75% throws and 25% groundwork, while in BJJ it's 90% groundwork and 10% throws. Look at Gordon Ryan, the greatest BJJ fighter of all time - what can you tell me about his throwing (takedown) skills?
@@maxkho00 I suspect the differences in our numbers come down to our personal experiences. My Judo school valued groundwork, and my BJJ school valued Judo throws. I met my BJJ teacher when he came to learn Judo at our school.
Have fun training.
BJJ is 98% ground and 2% standing takedowns.
@@chrisdonovan8795 Heavily depends on the school our BJJ school is 70-30 groundwork-takedowns
I'm a boxer and I have started to judo when I was 5. Definitely the best support for strike sports. The amount of explosiveness you learn to control is amazing.
If the Judo guy only knew how to apply an arm Triangle choke... so many chances. 🤣
Yeah, definitely lots of opportunities for arm triangle ;)
Mounted triangle and/or crucifixes too. But he’s a judo player not a jiujitsu guy. In his specialty of throwing he did well
@elenchus agreed. I'm just saying there's no way he pulled off an Ezekiel with such a low level ground game. His throws were beautiful.
Arm triangle or kata gatame is a basic technique in Judo. Not everyone likes it.
@@edwhlam that's silly... it would have won the fight in the first round...
For non-pro fights, elbows should not be allowed unless you have a legitimate medical staff on hand to take care of the catastrophic injury an elbow can cause.
Boxer just wasn't throwing shots with enough power to make Judoka respect his strikes. That's why he was so confident. He knew he could tank the hits, get in and throw.
The boxer didn't respect the judoka as he didnt know what combinations to throw how to get angles ect, if someone is REALLY good at boxing its generally gonna turn out like that
Just say the Boxer is wearing Everlast.
Wrestler here. I sparred a classmate who had done judo for 7 years and i got absolutely wrecked. He threw me multiple times and had ground control most of the time. Its so underrated!!

What a crazy environment to fight in 😂😂
Good sweep at 2:35. There is no shame in tapping. Respect to both fighters.
Minute 2:40, the Judo guy does a fantastic reversal, textbook worthy in terms of execution. Take note and try it next training! Thanks!
the grappler always get the advantage
People always forget that judo has some decent ground game. Not as extensively developed as bjj, but enough to dominate those without ground game.
the Sweep at 2:40 around there, is sometimes called the 100% sweep from closed guard. It's more of a wrestling/grappling "concept" than a technique. you don't want your arm caught out behind your back like that, it's a good way to lose your center of gravity and get swept. You can do it with your arms or your legs either way works to sweep the guy. There was a neck crank submission from that same position too, a sub and a sweep is available there but the Judoka opted to sweep him I guess or he didn't know the neck crank submission
Thanks for explaining!
Just subscribed! The channel I’ve been looking for, thank you man.
Welcome!
Dude just so you know all Judo schools do plenty of grappling. It’s a major art of the sport. Judo has jiu-jitsu mixed with wrestling pins and submissions. Never go in the ground with a Judoka.
Judo is grappling because you grab 😂

Thanks for providing a free show for us. We appreciate you.
Original judo is one of the most complete martial art you need on the street, before the watering down by the Olympics.
I don't think you can call a martial art that contains no striking as complete.
Props to both of those guys for fighting in the freezing cold like that. Shows real heart.
It was a very basic but strong Judo sweep when the Judo player retook top mount in the first.
Finished with a classic Sode jime (called Ezikil or something like that in BJJ for some reason).
Very classic Judo, well done.
I give both these guys credit
Good stuff
I think he tapped to a slick no gi ezekiel. Ezekiels can really creep up on you
Yeah that is definitely what it was. If they don’t keep that second arm from coming underneath the chin it is just a matter of time and pressure till the choke sinks in.
It was definitely not a no gi Ezekiel. It was very clearly a sloppy squeeze. No way he gets an Ezekiel after blowing 20 chances for an arm Triangle choke and a chance for an arm bar. That's just silly.
Watch the replay at the end and you will see the choke@@Toxik_Dubz
@@Toxik_Dubzto be fair even a sloppy wind pipe Ezekiel would make you tap pretty quick just based on how it feels alone. Especially if it was the boxers first time being hit with it.
Judoka got a submission called sode-guruma-shime
Ya I learned that as white belt juodka but it never worked against anyone above a green belt. It did work on me plenty of times until I instinctual started keeping my hands close to my neck especially in 🐢 mode lol
That osoto gari counter was crisp! This is why getting the head moving is so important. I have very limited judo experience, but if you dont break their posture, youre gonna get countered like this!!
Considering the judoka did all this with a prosthetic arm I gotta say that even if he didn’t get the tap I would’ve been impressed.

That was a beautiful amateur match. Loved it!
Awesome fight! Counter move after counter move.
Throw was close to a broken neck. Phew! 😅
I think a boxer has a huge disadvantage in this matchup, in boxing getting into a clinch isn't a bad thing and even gives you time to recover, but that is exactly where a judoka wants you lmfao. As a boxer you would have to do everything in your power not to get put in a clinch against a judoka or its over.
You need to have enough strike power to be able to keep the distance. This '' boxer '' have a striking power of a 8yo little boy, the judoka fighter can even face tank with no guard without danger. You can't call yourself a boxer if your strikes cannot inflict any damage at all...
Very nice throws!
Looks like Boxer had a slight edge during the stand up. I wish he actually commited to those flying knees. Once grappling came into the equation he absolutely got mauled. My theory is that as as a species we have pretty good innate instincts for striking, so with decent training it doesn't take long before you look like you can handle yourself. Our grappling instincts seem super underdeveloped, so anyone with just a little bit of training just absolutely dominates if they can get past the strikes
that transition from guillotine to mount @2:36 using the underhook is fairly common, a lot of people call it the 100% grip. think it was coined by 10th planet guys
“Judoka” was rather a (not /only/ BJJ!)Jujitsuka or MMA practitioner, as he had pretty convincing kicks and punches as well, and his grappling was rather Jujitsu like and less like Judo.... And “boxer” didn’t seem to be to experienced...
@@markdaniels4178 Indeed, linguistically absolutely; as a Martial Arts style partially.🙂
His grappling style was completely judo. But yes obviously he is trained in MMA and striking
Nice the German DFC. They have nice fights. But do you know King of the Streets, that is real fighting on concrete.
The boxer attempts a pitiful osoto gari at 5:12 and gets countered with a osoto gaeshi
Looked like a Ezekiel choke he tapped from. Used that choke many times very effective.
If the boxer was smart he would be jumping in and out of distance for the judo guy and popping him. Boxers are super quick on their feet.
that's what leg kicks are for.
2:32 the sweep that judo guy does is called a 100% sweep which is something that happens between two grapplers frequently especially mma focused grapplers. it lets you sweep off of the guillotine when you give up bottom position to try to chase a guillotine so it gives you an option for when you cant finish the guillotine but can still maintain good position instead of ending up on bottom
I'm a judoka in my club we do alot of ground work just as standing
@@pedromulu4812 i love judo my judo club also has a newaza focused program but i don't see it often. when i went to asia i sparred all the brown and black belts and outgrappled them with BJJ and wrestling which actually made it easier to land judo throws because i was comfortable defending my back
Judo+ hard concrete = Its over
this looks like an illegal organized fight in the middle of nowhere💀
Yap, safe to say. It's happening in a former industrial nation, now banana republic, called Germany.
I wonder why so many fighters throw those super light leg kicks.
They do nothing but tire you! They are fine in light sparring, bit do not thow them in an actual match or fight.
You either commit to the kick and do a lot of damage, or do a feint and never make contact. There's no inbetween
Btw, it's funny how the second takedown happened because the boxer tried to take Judo guy down
I think it’s because he wasn’t very good at kicking
They look lighter than they feel and they add up. Your legs can go numb from repeated leg kicks... even the light kicks.
i have a practical and non-dangerous experiment you can do
next time you go to poop, stay a long time sitting on the toilet.....notice how your legs get numb.
it's because of the nerve that goes all the way down to your foot.
those light kicks to the leg keep pressing on that nerve......and eventually the opponent has trouble even placing weight on that leg.... and if you cant move well, you're fckd both in attack and defense.
2:38 ish was like a 100% sweep whether Judoka knew it or not. . . Actually a pretty common No Gi sequence (Guilotoine, 100 Percent sweep to mount, often preceded with a kimura/bump sweep attempt.
Judo + wrestling + just an adequete amount of striking (like the dagestani guys) is a dangerous combo against any other style/combo of styles
Nice fight.
5:09 wait, the boxer had the audacity to try to perform an osoto gari on the judoka?
Are they in BARE FEET while sparing on snow? I tap already, brrr & ouch!
That looked like an Ezekiel choke that ended the fight. As a Judoka who has been looking into training in BJJ, I think the Ezekiel choke is a natural choke to learn to quickly weaponize your newaza skills in an MMA or BJJ context, because it is roughly similar to how you would get a Judo pin.
this is peak entertainment
im a judo blue belt. judo is coming from ju jitsu, the mythic martial arts used by the samourai during the EDO era. Judo is the " Sport way " of Ju jitsu, with a lot a rules so you can compet in the olympics. But most of the technics are designed to kill.
I'm still looking for the boxer
A boxer has less experience than a judoka, he didn't use combinations at all, even if he could punch, he didn't develop his attacks, he probably had to work as a second-in-command and not attack, but just wait for a good moment to counterattack. In any case, both athletes are great.
Boxer took it like a champ. Respect. Judo seems super dangerous for MMA.
to me it looked like a reverse figure 4 choke for the submission
This would be the best description of that sloppy submission. All these people saying this guy pulled off a no gi Ezekiel choke after ignoring all the chances for much simpler and more effective submissions like the arm bar and arm triangles he had perfect position for are delusional. All he had to do was take side mount and sink the Triangle in. Several times... but I'm supposed to think he pulled off an extremely difficult choke from bottom instead? Lmmfao Casuals... they are too damn funny.
Didn't look like a very experienced boxer the way he put his head down when judo fella started to attack
The sweep at 2:33 is called a 100% sweep and is fairly common in grappling!
The boxer tapped to pressure from the top nothing to do with snow or whatever the guy said. Just straight face pressure. Judoka needs to do like 6 months of BJJ he had such an easy access to the arm bar or even better the arm triangle.
The boxer attempting to osotogari the judo guy 😂
Judo has all submissions you need. It's the judo practionners that might do not have them (because of those stupid IJF rules). It's up to the judoka but don't incriminate judo please ;)
He definitely tapped to an Ezekiel choke.
This actually is a much better fight than avg ufc fights.
Bizzarre that you don’t realise Judo has a ton of ground game.

Both my lads I learned to box , then they did 5 years judo which sealed the deal , hopefully they never need it because someone will not know what hit them .
In my opinion Judo is THE most effective TMA for self defense.
Watch a pro boxing match. A combat sport where both combatants obviously specialize in striking. Yet even 2 strikers continually end up in a clinch. If you find yourself in a clinch with a good Judoka your ass is about to go for a ride. Destination.... the ground with the Judoka on top of you.
Same goes with Wrestling. Particularly Greco Roman Wrestling. If you find yourself in a clinch with a good Greco guy.... put on your seatbelt.... you’re going for a ride.
he was in guard and he did a sweep to mount. thats how he ended on top near the end of the first round.
Boxer vs Judoka looks more like the opening of kick-boxing or karate.
At 2:33 the Judoka gets a so called "100 percent sweep". He has his triceps on the back of the head of the boxer then going over his arm / shoulders and connects his hands and sweeps him. It's a very strong sweep.
Here is a link to the sweep.

2:50 the judo guy used a guard sweep or turnover as it’s called in judo. It wasn’t weird he just has some decent newaza. At least enough for the boxer.
If the judoka would learn some solid submissions and ground work he would be insane
