Chance of Stamkos going to the leafs is 0%. Chance of the media saying it is possible for clicks 110%
Another 10 million dollar contract for the leafs, and they still don't have defence or goaltending
Stamkos won't be a Leaf. It'll make no sense and cripple them financially even more. As a Leafs fan I DO NOT WANT Stamkos. This is not 2016.
The Leafs suck and always will..
The Dallas Cowboys of the NHL!
Chance of gambling companies making a small fortune 1 zillion % 😉
Probably Detroit because of the Yzerman connection.
Not to sound dramatic but Stammer leaving Tampa would be a dark day here in Tampa for sports. Greatest player in franchise history 😔
We need to sign him
nah man I feel ya. It's OK to be emotional when such a great guy leaves
decade of darkness
The last several captains that have moved on have left massive voids. When I think of Tampa, Stammer is the guy that comes to mind first. I don’t think you’re sounding dramatic at all
Kucherov is the best player in franchise history followed by hedman, at least the most talented
I'm surprised they brought back McDonagh without keeping Stammer.
They probably already knew ahead of time they weren’t gonna be able to sign him. But at the same time, it’s weird because McDonagh said he was traded the first person he talked to was Stamkos.
I think Stammer not sticking around is a blessing in disguise for Tampa. The Lightning's contention window is pretty much closed, Stevie's basically become redundant in the current forward lineup, and teams like the Red Wings, Pens, and Caps can tell you countless stories about the dangers of keeping a cooked old guard around for the feelgoods instead of letting them go and working towards the future as quickly as possible. Stamkos leaving could easily be the difference between a quick retool and a long, painful rebuild.
I knew this would be the case. Gotta take ole yeller out back 😭😭😭😭😭
@@that_guy0_0 haha
How is it closed, they still have Kucherov, Vasy, Hedman...
@@milan99cz
Not spending 10 million (or what ever) on him may keep that window open,
As bad as it will see him to go
Yeah. Nostalgia doesnt win cups. Fans forget this team didnt improve until they had to part with Vinny and Marty.
Kucherov and Point are the future and really if not in 4 years then now is the time to start building around them. The only difference is the lack of organizatioal depth and draft picks which needs to be addressed.
I think the team also realizes in the Tampa market that success puts butts in seats. If this team doesn't make the playoffs for consecutive years fans will not show up. So the strategy is to not miss a beat and always keep the window open.
What is unfortunate is that JBB gave out some big contracts with term the last few years to players that didn't necessarily need all of that. It's probably part of what is hindering the Stamkos renewal.
Sure will be weird to see Stamkos in anything other than a Bolts jersey….
I said the same thing a couple days ago and was gonna say the same thing again now.
especially when its going to be red florida jersey 😎 (jk its so unlikely)
From the beginning of the season, Stamkos talked about being frustrated with having no talks about an extension. He's arguably Tampa's greatest player ever, and it feels weird that he's going to test the market. It just felt like he was gonna end his career there.
They prioritized other players over him and pushed it to this point. He’s someone you should slightly overpay just to have him retire with you and not play for someone else. This is like Jeter leaving the Yankees rather than retiring with them.
He did the same back in I believe 2014 maple leafs offered him like 18m more and he stayed
If a new era for Tampa wasn’t already underway, it certainly is now.
Not really since you still have Kucherov, Point, Hedman, and Vassy, not to mention Hagel and Sergachev.
@@saturnotaku Oof big cope my brother
@@poejavelski148 He’s not wrong, those are all fantastic players that make up a good core in their own right. The problem Tampa has is not with Stamkos or the core, it’s the lack of young depth players with high ceilings. They can still be a contender if they make the right moves this summer.
@@saturnotaku bye bye sergachev
Miss those Nashville jerseys. Blue always looked better than yellow.
Stamkos will go to Detroit and suddenly all Yzerman's moves will make sense.
Second I heard Stammer is on free market - then Detroit makes perfect sense. Stamkos, Kane, DeBrincat, Raymond, Sieder...Larkin
Kane isn't on Detriot.
Guess he doesn’t care about winning anymore championships then. I’d think he would go to a contender.
@@imthebeatplug_8319 That's right...Detroit is ON HIM! GO WINGS!
Isn’t Stevie Y the GM that squeezed Stamkos when he signed the deal that just expired? Could there be hard feelings there?
Montreal has traded picks number 26, 57 and 198 to LA in exchange for pick number 21
Odd Nashville signs Saros to such a massive deal with Askarov right around the next corner.
Actually now that Saros is locked in to a contract he's a lot easier to trade
@@maxrcryptovery true
@@maxrcrypto Is that the narrative management is telling Askarov? And if it is, how does that get back to Saros in any way that isn't negative?
Typical Barry Trotz move. I have never seen him as a intelligent hockey man, and this drives home the point.
I also say the same about Tarasanko! I know you didn't talk about him, but people think he's on the move again as well. Another target as well as Stamkos by the rags! Tarasanko just bought 2 houses in Florida, 1 in Ft Lauderdale by Panthers practice facility and another rin Miami!
I expect Slavin to make team USA, I was actually hoping he would be in with the 1st group but alas. He would be a phenomenal pair with Q. Hughes
Crosby-MacKinnon would be terryfying
McDavid Mackinnon more terrifying.
Imagine the speed and skill. Crosby never been top for speed.
Should never happen for any reason. I’m an isles fan. But what Stamkos did for Tampa can’t be understated and he can’t be replaced.
Stamkos to Toronto with 11,5 million cap hit for 5 years. Why invest more than 50% of your cap on 4 players when you can invest 65% of your cap on 5?
The Pittsburgh Penguins Retirement Community welcomes, -Jeff Carter- Steven Stamkos!
😂😂😂
@@jjm5353 except Stamkos can actually play still lol
Do you even have the cap room to meet his demands, though?
Stammer not retiring a bolt, all because they prematurely traded for McDonough should in all honesty be a fireable offense for Brisbose. A 6-7x3 deal should of been manageable, but he f'd himself trading for an old dman making 6.75. Resiging dumba for 3m would of been just as useful.
Just have to say this guy is a beast! I mean "oh sorry guys I won't do other videos while I stream a whole draft"
In terms of Saros, I used to be the same guy as many and worry about what it means for future… However, the reality is, Saros proved himself. It’s 8 years otherwise the cap hit would be near 10M. At this cap hit and stable performances from Saros they will be able to trade him out. But Askarov isn’t starter yet, he needs experience. I think great decision by Nashville. Stable tandem, and there always be Toronto which will need a new goalie every other year 🤷🏻♂️
Also important to note that Nashville said they'll be looking for a new backup on the market and plan on starting Askarov in the AHL yet again. Hopefully he ends up getting moved because it feels like a lot of teams are not giving their younger goalies a chance even if they're probably ready to face NHL shots
Some team will inquire about Askarov at the draft, but if the Preds get too greedy, they backed themselves into a corner. Stalemate!
I think Stamkos ends up in Either Boston, Nashville, Minnesota or Detroit (With Carolina being the secret 5th option depending on how the canes designing of players goes.)
As much as I love Saros and everything he has done for NSH, 7-8 years is too much. Give him a 4-5 year deal and show Askarov that you count on him for the future.
Saros is a Vezina finalist goalie. A 4-5 year offer would be insulting
the idea is likely that they'll trade saros when askarov is ready to take over, like what calgary did with markstrom to make room for dustin wolf
He wouldn't accept that. He has to agree ya know
If nsh don't give him that, other clubs will.
Why is it too much? Lock him up long term and you can get a great return for him if and when Askarov takes the helm.
6:20 basically in the nba you have to select the player for the other team and then trade them for record keeping purpsoes
Wouldn't mind to see Stamkos in Nashville. With a good amount of young talent and some well-seasoned vets already on the roster, maybe Trotz will see a fit. 👀
I love the Canadian media shade. They f course stammer is going to the fing Leafs
Finland announced their first line. Other countries individuals.
A 35-year old asking for 10M a season is outrageous. Let him walk, says I.
And you would think all that time he spent there, he would want to take a discount.
@bostonwarrior4824 not saying your wrong, but he might feel like he was taking a discount while they were competitive, and this is his last shot at a big contract.
@@csolivais1979 wasn’t he getting 8 mil? That was a huge contract when he signed
@@thebigpicture2032 I don't know, not a Bolts fan.
@@thebigpicture2032 8 million was a huge bargain of a contract for Stamkos at the time, he was easily worth $10 million or more for a long time. But that time has passed, he isn’t worth that anymore.
Huge congrats to Nashville fans on extending your goalie saros is a stud
looking forward to the canucks news in the next two hours
Wouldn’t be surprised if suter retires honestly
in the nba, even when the draft pick is traded before a player is selected, they still give them the hat and jersey of the team that originally held that specific draft slot before the trade. I completely agree it's so bizarre and it's always been that way
Man imma be heartbroken if Stammer leaves, he’ll always be a legend here in Tampa
According to Pierre Lebrun, the Lightning offered Stamkos an 8 year deal with an AAV at around $3 million. And Stammer, per the report, is looking for $4-$5 million depending on the term. I would offer $4.25 and go from there, that is a damn good deal in my opinion.
Wow what a steal for a top 5 goalie in the league. Such a generous guy it’s clear he wanted to be in Nashville. Best goalie contract in the league and one of the best overall contracts in the league!
The reason for the draft then trade is due to the CBA rules in the NBA. I agree, it's a bad look.
First Thought I had, as a Detroit FAN is "YES" Stevie knows him and boy, that would be neat for a couple years
Askarov posted on his Instagram story after the Saros signing announcement saying “everything happens for a reason” 😅
I’ll be happy if he gets a contract elsewhere 😊
Nashville is crazy to keep Saros around… they aren’t winning a Cup until they finish building a new roster. They should build around Askarov and re-tool the rest of their roster
He can't stay in Nashville then if he wants to become a starter one day
@@GWh135 Kinda depends on how expensive you think Askarov will be by the time they're finally ready to compete
@@user-by3nd4rm6c Everyone else with expensive contracts they have now will be gone by that point so it doesn’t really matter.
Hats down to Tampa! I’m all for loyalty, but also respect. If they communicated openly and if the asking price didn’t make sense for Tampa. I think out of respect to other players and the club difficult decisions need to be made… I’m loving it because they seem to understand that you can keep the team competitive for long time if you’re able to make these kind of decisions… not a Tampa fan, but my entrepreneurial spirit is becoming a fan 😅
This year in the NHL , THG , takes a break from doing hockey history videos lol
Stamkos should be Boston's priority on Monday
Having Marchand listed in the first 6 gives you a hint on the teams structure and direction
Not really I mean he’s the captain of the Bruins and he has tremendous experience and leadership abilities. It’s not all about skill, as much as his game starting to drop off, I’m sure they would all love to have him, still a great leader, and he’s still really good defensively. As much as he’s frustrating to opposing fans, he’s still a great addition to that team.
4 nations cup looks super competitive.
looks like the “oh can JUUSE” rendition of the anthem is here to stay in Nashville
As a Wings fan, it would be super awesome if he came to Detroit! He played for Stevie Y and Lalonde so there is some continuity there as well!
Hello Mister Shannon, how is this jersey named and where can I purchase it? It looks amazing.
It’s the Nashville predators 2001-04 jersey. No clue where you’d be able to buy one
Nashville's also got one of the best kept secrets, goalie Kevin Lankinen, I think he deserves a chance as number one someplace else.
man Stammer in black and gold would looks damn good
Wooooo boy THG looking good in preds gear! Doesn't happen often so we love to see it!!!
I hope Tampa and Stamkos can reach a deal. But I'm not sure anymore if it will happen.
Would love to see Stamkos on the Rangers if he comes in at a reasonable price. His grit and leadership role will be so helpful in a playoff run next year. I think Messier was 33 when the Rangers last won. Stamkos is now 34.
It's going to be weird seeing Stamkos in another jersey. He still puts up great numbers, I wonder why he is the odd man out
He wants ten million i heard
It will be strange to see him in another jersey but age injuries and 10 million makes him the odd man out.
@@Cobywhiteisthegoatyeah there is no way is sign him for ten. I heard he was offered 3 but wants 6. He can easily get 6.
@@Cobywhiteisthegoat Sounds like the perfect fit for the Maple Laughs.
@@MrXanderii Offering him 3 would be so insulting.
Does to Toronto have enough $$$ for Stamkos?
Nova Scotia represent!
7.5 feels like great value for Saros but that is a lot of years. I wonder how 7.5 will look as a percentage of the cap by towards the latter half of the deal.
Canada-with Marchand and Crosby, great connection but aren't they too old now for high compete tourneys.?
Oh!
I’m a Panthers and Red Wings fan. If stamkos comes to Detroit, that would be pretty cool.
Stamkos is signing with Florida $3.5mil 2 year deal with conditional 3rd year.
Stamkos has his cup so he can just get paid ,you could say he has his money also but money is power and he could use it for others if he wanted or whatever at this point it just makes sense to go paid.
I don't get why Lindell being top 6 would surprise you; he is the second best Finniah defender in the league right now.
Anyone know where the Laine back to Jets rumour has come from?
I think the reason why the NBA works like that (trading after the pick) is because NBA teams can only trade their first round pick like every other year or something like that
So by having the deal in place, but not trading g till after the draft means the next year they can deal their pick at the deadline, or when ever, because post pick swaps, do t count as trading draft picks
Stammer in Vancouver could be a great get considering Guentzel is likely to sign in Carolina. Stamkos will be cheaper and I’d rather have him for 4 years @ $5M than Guentzel for 8 years @ 8.5M
The flyers probably aren't close enough for stamkos, but it he wanted to reunite with Torts... I wouldn't mind a savvy SC champ showing the young fellas what it takes.
Stamkos didn't play for Tortorella. You're thinking of St.Louis maybe?
@@boltinabottle6307 Lecavalier?
The way trades are done during the NBA draft is super weird to me. I agree, drafting the kid just to send them immediately somewhere else doesn't make sense. Just trade the pick itself like in hockey and let that team choose who they want.
2 other points, the picks are seemingly worthless. 5 second round picks to get a late 1st? 5 1st rounders to trade for a guy who isn't even a star??? Crazy. 2nd, it's very difficult afterwards to know what team actually got which prospect. Like the sites I was checking said the Knicks made a certain pick, but doesn't note that pick was traded elsewhere.
Why are teams trading for draft position already ? Is that usual ? I don’t recall that happening this much. Weird they don’t wait to see who’s actually on the board on the draft floor ?
If I were a Tampa fan I would be pissed there is no deal with Stamkos.
How about if he goes to Florida?
Stamkos is purely a power play sniper. Not really a play-driving center
Yep, he needs to be paired with a playmaker to be effective.
@@thebigpicture2032 Kane/Larkin/Stamkos?
Kinda wish they had Czech and Russian teams for the world representation cup thing
NBA have two rules that make them draft like that. you cant trade your own 1rst round pick in back to back years and you cant trade picks during the draft. also sometimes for salary cap or payroll reasons teams will trade a higher picked player for a guy a couple of picks lower to save a little bit of money because rookie contracts are based on your pick.
I would honestly love to see Stamkos in a canucks jersey if they cant sign guentzel, ive always loved stamkos right from when he entered the league
This I'd rather see as a Hurricanes fan. Losing Guentzel after finally going all in, would be a MAJOR gut punch. Stamkos would be a perfect fit for the Canucks, with a 4 year deal. Jim Rutherford isn't afraid to go that route, so stay tuned.
They used to have both hats in the nba its cause teams cant trade back to back drafts ted stepen rule old Cavs owner so for GM to get around it the draft the player the other team wants then trade
i still want to see how Utah handles their cap space this off season . the NBA cant make trades tell after the free agent starts or something like that so at the Draft when the teams have a trade worked out is ok i will give you this pick and player for this pick and player
The NBA draft-and-trade thing is definitely weird to outsiders but it's because of the Stepien rule. Teams can't trade their own first round pick in back-to-back years. If you trade a player immediately after they're drafted - where the trade is usually agreed to before hand and teams tell each other who to pick before officially submitting the trade - it skirts the Stepien rule since it's a player's rights being traded and not a draft pick. Makes sense for teams to do it that way, but definitely weird optics for the fans and players involved
Why can’t a team trade their 1st round pick in back to back years? Seems highly odd and easily circumvented
@@ianhall6614 like I said, the Stepien rule. Stepien owned the Cavs in the 80s and traded away 5 straight first round picks. The team stunk and had no prospect of improving because they didn’t have any of their picks, ending up with Stepien selling the team after only a couple seasons. The rule was implemented to save teams from themselves, but you can get around it with pick swaps or draft-and-trades
Slavin should have been in the first 6 for us
The NBA trades players because they don’t allow picks to be traded in back to back years unlike other leagues that don’t have that restriction
Stamkos is staying makes no sense to leave he’s a legend in Tampa got a pretty decent offer from us and we’re still contenders with a solid core, coach, and vasi. Detroit might make a run at him but who else??? That would be worth it?
If stamkos decide to move on, it would be great thing, 8.5m cap space could do much good
You don’t just fall into another Stamkos level player.
@@TjayK2 yes you do
Stammer would be a good match with the Pens. They need someone who can score on their PP, and timeline wise, they align. They can give him term because when he starts to rot, it will be rebuild time anyway.
What makes you think they’ll go after Stamos who is already older, when the whole reason why Gentzel left was because Pittsburgh didn’t wanna pay him the money and term.. I doubt Pittsburgh touches older players they’re trying to get younger. And the more teams bid the more stamp price is going up probably north of seven or 8 million.
@@bostonwarrior4824 We don't really know what the Pens offered anf what Guentzel asked for.
@@vipeholmskolan6052 well Dubas came out and said he wasn’t going to sign him because they’re worried about long-term contracts and it wasn’t suitable for them. I think it would be weird to see Steven Stamkos playing for a team other than Tampa Bay.
As a bruins fan, I want the idea of stamkos. We need lindholm
Stammer to Vancouver 7-year contract league min, fingers crossed 🤞 lmao
Was hoping for a team friendly 5 mil for 3 deal for stammer. He deserves more at market but we need cap space to fill the holes we have. If only the cap were 100 mil (I know every team would like that)
As a Florida fan Stamkos leaving would be a cherry on top for us after the Stanley. Lightning would not be able to replace his void in a short time period.
Do you think Vancouver could maybe consider grabbing Stamkos with some of the money that they have cleared? I don't want Toronto to go for him as a Leafs fan just because they are already way too top heavy.
There’s a rumor on the street that Nashville is going to sign and trade Saros..this would be the first step in making that happen…not sure of this rumor’s validity but I could see it happening.
The NBA draft trading system is 100% backwards. Between that and their 2nd rd taking place in a tv studio, the NHL outclasses the NBA with their draft by 10x.
3:46 Don’t you dare associate those two together
Tampa did Stamkos dirty!
Stammer wow
That's the second time suter has been bought out lol
If the nucks can't get Guentzel we will happily welcome Stamkos!
Its going to be weird to see Stamkos in anything but a Tampa jersey
Tampa had a very nice run .They have no money . No draft choices . It's time to retool .
I can see Stamkos in a Sharks uniform next season. The team doesn't have that much center depth, plus Couture may or may not be ready for this upcoming year due to his health problems. He would also be a great person for Celebrini to look up to as a leader for the team, along with the other young players like Will Smith. But I guess we'll see what happens on Monday, or maybe before then too.
Does a player like Stamkos leaving under circumstances like this change how the other TBL players feel about the team? How does it affect what they're willing to accept on a contract?
As a Pens fan...Yes to Stammer. we've got to stay the oldest team!
