Fungineers Thor300 is ice cold

- One of the most important things for me when riding onewheel in the mountains is to be able to continue riding without having multiple breaks because of overheating. When Superflux solved the overheating for motors the problems started with the controllers. Aluminum boxes and custom lids helped and when I reported the thermal issues to Fungineers they said to me " Superflux isn't too strong we just need the VESC that can handle the power".
Is this the solution for overheating?
setups for this comparison:
LFOC/Floatboxx, Superflux MK1, 20s2p p42a
Thor300 CNC Box, Superflux mk2 HT, 20s2p p28a
LFOC/Obligatory Box, Hypercore, 20s1p p45b - Hudba
Awesome vid! Upgrading my 1st vesc with the Thor Box from Fungineers tomorrow! Can't wait to destroy my thermals
🎉🎉🎉🎉
hi H, you are using the original Floatboxx MLC with LFOC which was designed 2 years ago for the Hypercore motor. The Superflux demands more from the VESC, generating more heat. So for Superflux we developed the CXC range of boxxes with a much larger heatsink, more space, and lower price. Looking forward to comparing this one 😛
Thanks for the input. I'm gonna swap to CXC and check the benefits of the larger box asap
Very interesting vid ! Good to see how long it takes to decrease the temp 😮
thx. best way to cool down the motor is going downhill 😉
I often get my Little FOCer in the Float Box above 80°C, and I think I get pushback at 85°C or so. Guess I just have a different setting? Either way, looking forward to the Thor, so I can just keep climbing...
👀❗️
if I understood you correctly, you are comparing Little FOCer with SF MK1 to Thor300 with ST HT motor.... I would say this is not fair comparison because MK1 need more amps to produce the same ammount of the torque as HT motor and this also mean Focer will heat more
yes it's unfair... but it was as fair as possible. you can also see on surfdados latest short that Thor300 stays cool with a Superflux HS on a super steep hill
What is the ambient temperature? We pushed the thor300 to 63C, climbing at ambient 96F, 1200 feet gain in 3 miles.
first of all the temperatures and the uphill was the same for my tests. so the LFOC would have exploded on your trail. here it was 75F ambient temperature and colder the higher I climbed. 1000 feet gain in 2 miles
@@VESCmann I rode my LF 3.1 alongside the thor300. The LF3.1 had to stop 3 times to cool down, my mosfet limit was set to 80C. Thor300 is amazing, I think it will have 10 miles more of range with the same battery pack compared to LF3.1.
great video, i'm a thor purchasor but your video is a little miss leading, the other two (right and left) are consuming much higher amps and you can see that in the average WH/KM it isn't even comparable. send it buddy. again I am full on fungineers products.
I know but I don't care because all I want is to climb up these hills. I'm still doing more comparisons. already did the same test with Cheap FOCer, Tronic250R and upgraded Floatboxx for LFOC. What you're mentioning about the consumption is only the advantage of the Superflux HT. Average consumption is totally misleading because I the controller was already on for about 40 minutes, most of the time without moving. sorry for that, but I will redo the test when I get my own THOR300 with Superflux HS
@@VESCmann i feel ya, the thor is a game changer for sure!
Heyy man! Thor300 sure is cool, can't wait for LFOC V4 to see how it compares to Thor300. What is Obligatory Box like, cant see any details on the site? Is it 3D printed is what I'm curious about?
hopefully other upcoming controllers will handle heat like Thor300. I also got a tronic that I will test eventually with 100V battery. The box from obligatory is still under development with the basic idea to get more space between the footpads so you can put a big tire on standard rail length
Where is Vescmann my hero located ?
@@justintmars Liechtenstein, Europe. Put it on your map 😉
@@VESCmannawesome ! I’ll put it on our list of places to visit!
We are leaving Prague now to visit Malaga. I have not seen a single one wheel since being in Europe and a little sad for it 😢
@@justintmars there's an event in Mayrau which is very close to Prague. the czech community is quite big. aldo check out europeanonewheelleague.com for more events
