This was your best video yet. This really speaks to the soul of the original Jurassic Park fans who have to deal with this corporate shlock. Exactly as you said, BTTF has remained relevant and popular despite only having a trilogy that ended in 1990. Here's hoping we get a big budget Jurassic PARK game for the 30th!
We gotta have some spice, can’t re use the same old company is bad trope instead I wish their was a Jurassic park movie where the military was planning to kill all dinosaurs with a virus, we can get a money heist thrill theme where a team or 8 land on the island infultrating it, we get guns blazing and in the end they end up in the room with the virus and take a sample. They get captured and the military wants to kill them until they find out the entire team is broadcasting to the world. Due to the criticism they are let free just like the end of money heist. I feel like this is a cool idea I made up
as someone who’s dad loves the first two movies, i never really got why he hated world so much, as i thought it was ok when it first came out. but then i saw this video, and i thought to myself, “maybe i should watch the first two movies…” so i sat down with my dad and watch the first two movies, and i can see why they’re so beloved. this video not only made me realize how marvel is ruining modern cinema, but it helped me discover why people love the first two movies so much. i also got to spend some time with my dad, so thanks for that as well.
I only ever saw the first movie and the first World, and despite seeing both once, I still remember loving the first JP and I have never once thought about JW besides remembering that I saw it when it came out, and not being able to recall a single thing about it. Great video! Learned a lot from this, and agree with the conclusion. I saw it said in a tweet almost exactly the way you described it, was something like "The generation that made Star Wars and Jaws type movies were inspired by a variety of things they saw in their youth, and the generation that grew up with Star Wars and Jaws just made more of them."
3 things. 1. I STILL don't get how the only other legitimate dinosaur movie franchise is Godzilla. (Before people argue it's not, let me ask: What other choice do you have?) And while Godzilla is my favorite franchise, we got to have more then that as an alternative. I mean, how did Universal suddenly become the end-all, be-all of big budget dinosaur movies? 2. It's ironic how Spielberg bashes himself and bashed The Lost World even though, with its flaws, it's actually a solid movie and the only sequel worth watching. Does he actually LIKE JP3 and the JW movies? 3. I'm of the belief that of they kept most of the 'old guard' dinosaurs the exact same as the first two movies WITHOUT reverting backwards (drooping tails) via continuality and made the new ones as accurate as possible, then most fans and paleotologists would have been happy since both sides would have got what they wanted.
Speaking of trilogies that end on a high note I gotta give respect to Dreamworks from CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg for deciding Shrek Forever After to not only be the last Shrek film of the franchise (FOR NOW) but to also cancel the planned 5th film and to decide that the 4th film will be the end of it all. The best thing about the 4th film what that it not only fixed the damage that the 3rd film made but to end the franchise on a high note Because Shrek is a work of art that should be left alone and only be touched
JPOG music coming in clutch. This was a wonderful video Caelum. It completely sums up how a majority of us Jurassic Park fans feel. It's crazy how even I, someone who enjoys JP3 because it's so bad, found no enjoyment in the Jurassic World movies. Again nice work! P.S. We all just LOVE the Stygimoloch
Greetings from Brazil! I cannot thank you enough for the existence of this video! As someone who had its life forever changed by the cinematic magic of the first Jurassic Park, it deeply sadness me to witness what they’ve done with the legacy of JP. I agree 100% with all the arguments in this video. You captured and developed the spirit of what many pseudo-fans fails to understand. That Jurassic Park should have never meant to be a franchise. Jurassic Park history (both in the book and film) wasn’t conceived to be a multi-story franchise. But since it gained a sequel, I believe that the story should have ended with The Lost World. This movie was the sequel that was possible to make, considering the impossible mission of making something that could even get closer to the perfection (yes, I said perfection) of the original. There is a paradox that affects Jurassic Park as a franchise (which you also developed in the video). To do something new, you will have to bring new and radical (and ridiculous) ideas, but then you completely break with the aesthetic, tone, message and spirit of the original. But if you try to do something to be consistent with these aspects, then you are just creating more of the same. I like how you pointed out how Jurassic World movies don’t resemble at all the first 2 movies. You can bring the same characters, mention the events, etc, but in the end, as you said, Jurassic Park will look like an independent film compared to the World sequels. I have so much more to take out of my chest, but only one last thing: it is symptomatic of the decadence how we went from scientists protagonists in JP and TLW, to a protagonist that is an ex-navy soldier that happens to be an expert on animal behavior.
Oh wow, this was great. Now, some backstory here, ever since you said on Discord that you were making this video, I never exactly cared, since I not a huge fan of JP, felt like it would be something to put on the background while I do something else, but I was impressed and couldn't not focus on the video, even if I'm not really familiar with the topic at hand, you still did a great job explaining it from Point A to Point Z with good narration skills, and using JP as a buildup for what's happening in the current movie landscape was genius because I too am sick of current movie trends, you could say this video was just like the first JP, had a perfect ending with the comparison of the opposite end, Back To The Future. Ngl, I think I prefer this over the Sonic videos, and I hope this blows up/does good for you because I really want you to have an incentive to make more non-Sonic videos, hoping for more, even if editing is a pain in the ass, trust me, I know, but we all have to go through hard shit. Anyway, great video, keep it up.
Another thing the movies get wrong about Dilophosaurus is that it was much larger than we see in the films. It was about 20 feet long and 6 feet tall fully-grown. When it was just the first three movies, the size of Dilophosaurus could be explained as being just a baby. But then they put it in the World trilogy at the same size. A human could not choke out a fully-grown dilophosaurus
For the video game industry specifically, the point was made that new IPs (especially indies) can thrive alongside legacy ones, but I feel like that's becoming less true over time. Every single one of the GOTY nominees for The Game Awards this year is either a sequel or a remake.
This is absolutely true, I wouldn't say the game industry is some kind of gold standard. However, my point was mostly that the methods of distribution allow for indie titles to be just as accessible as AAA, which is part of their success. You don't need to go to some small indie game store to buy Hollow Knight, Celeste or Outer Wilds, you just go on the same store page that also hosts Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and everything else. It sucks to see indies not receive their recognition at events like The Game Awards, but that doesn't mean they aren't still doing well on their own terms for their own studios, which is extremely important. More funding for them means more weird, original, creative indie titles in the future, and that's what I want.
As a former Star Wars fan, I can feel the pain of having a once beloved franchise of movies tarnished by unnecessary sequels. But as long as people keep buying tickets for this regurgitated slop, these problems with modern cinema aren’t going away any time soon.
Something that bugs me about the Jurassic Park franchise is how they treat herbivorous dinosaurs as puppies, sorry but NO, just because they are herbivorous does not mean they are harmless, check out real life herbivores.
Considering we have few instances of herbivore dinos with healed injuries from predators (including Rex bites in face) they ain't docile helpless creatures.
Great video. Well written, well narrated, terrifically edited, super engaging and relevant, just great all around. Excellent work, a lot of hard work was put into this and it shows.
I Wholeheartedly agree with you! Thank you so much for this video. I am an animator currently working on my own dinosaur short film and found what you said very inspiring. We really do need more accurate and high quality paleo media in the world. It is indeed time for something completely new and different to take the next step. Celebrating ancient life and educating the general public hopefully also inspiring more future dinosaur lovers who could take the next step after that :)
I was so p***ed off watching the newest one in theaters. They suckered me in to buying a ticket with the return of the original cast just to give me a movie about F'n locusts. I almost thought it was some kind of elaborate prank on people that grew up watching the original
Man, I was in utter shock at how bad Dominion was. I waited so long to see the original cast return to the big screen once more, and this is the best they can come up with? A movie about Locust, while the Dinosaurs were nothing more than road blocks? How stupid. This was a total bait and switch movement Don't even get me started on the overuse of Chris Pratt's magic hand thing and the retconning of Maisie's background. This is so much wrong with this movie, it's unbelievable.
@@dereklopez9060 chris pratts magic hand....OMG....pretty much had me complaining out loud in the theater the entire time, I felt like an a** hole afterwards for possibly ruining anyone elses good time, but geez, I was stunned by how bad the entire thing was. there was literally no redeeming qualities to that film, and I just couldn't believe it
With Jurassic World Dominion, I thought it was going to be about how the modern world and dinosaurs could try to live together with at least in coexistence before the trailers came out. I don't understand why have giant locusts eating up non-Biosyn crops as part of the story and not just follow through with what the end of Fallen Kingdom showed.
What a compelling analysis for each of the sequel films. Earned a subscription from me. It's a great articulation of feelings I've had as I watched the World movies that I couldn't organize into explicit thoughts.
The only Jurassic movie I've seen is World, which I thought was very dull and boring. And I don't really care about dinosaurs at all. But this was a good watch. I almost feel like I didn't need to watch it, though. Even just glancing the series from a distance, I could tell what's happened to it. Because it's the exact same thing that's happened to nearly every long running franchise. You could make this exact same video about Star Wars, Ghostbusters, etc. Mainstream Hollywood movies are mostly a joke. However, the unfortunate reality is that people will buy-in to something simply for having the logo of the thing they like. And since entertainment is a business, of course companies are going to capitalize on that fact. It is unavoidable. So at the very least, I would like to see that taken advantage of in a positive way, rather than just cynically to make money. The way I see it there are 3 ways to do unnecessary sequels. 1: Make something true to the original vision. The best and rarest form. But there are some examples in recent years. Creed and Shin Godzilla are great movies that are in line with their originals, while also being quality movies in their own right. 2: Use the IP to get interest in something people would not watch otherwise. A great alternative if wanting to take a series in a new direction. The recent Planet of the Apes trilogy is a great example. Very different than the thing they are based on, getting interest because of the connection to something so famous, but then being movies that stand up on the fact that they are really good movies that are actually about something. Their quality has nothing to do with the IP. They are just good movies that would have gone unseen had they not had the Planet of the Apes name. Essentially tricking people into watching a good movie they would have no interest in otherwise. 3: Make some soulless cash grab garbage to exploit nostalgiac drones who will like anything that with familiar imagery. Exactly what this video describes.
I disagree, I think we should have a spinoff series with the Stygimoloch because we all just love the stygimoloch. Other than that though, excellent video. It's a shame that you're going to get annihilated for daring to say that thing I enjoy should end because you hate me enjoying things.
There should be a 12 season spinoff series about Richard Attenborough's left ass hair and the existential dread it feels from being a sentient ass hair.
47:35 This was one of the graces of Camp Cretaceous, where even if they were chased by a carnivore, if said dinosaur got stuck or was in helpless distress the protags would make an effort to genuinely try to help it cause, yknow, end of the day its just an animal doing its thing. And I suspect that only happened in the cartoon cause a kid-focused audience has way more empathy for animals than an adult audience would. Worse thing about Dominion? I saw them introduce and explain the smuggler pilot lady and just drifted off thinkin "yknow a story about a pilot smuggler who goes to exotic locations we could see dinosaurs be wild in? And having a change of heart from assisting in the exploitation of a controversial exotic species in what's basically a metaphor for the illegal poaching animal trade? And having people directly abusing dinosaurs being easymode in garnering sympatheize with them and be happy when they break out and fuck humans up? Why am I not watching THAT movie??"
"...I don't think we are gonna se Jurassic Park turn extinct ..." Extinction is sometimes necessary, specially to allow new lifeforms to come into existence.
I feel like being a video game kid helped me have a lot of new appreciation and respect for new IPs. When Splatoon first came out, I lost my mind over Nintendo trying their hand at a stylish new IP and sticking the landing, especially since it was around the time I was branching out and trying more game franchises that I had previously written off. Also games inspired my young mind to start creating, so I came to value new IP quickly because I had a few of my own rattling around in my head. Anyway. Never discount the value of fanfiction! If a fandom is hardcore enough, they'll continue the legacy of the series unofficially. No shoddy sequels necessary. Actually, I'd say shoddy sequels sour fans on the whole IP.
As someone with little to no experience with the Jurassic Park series, this video was a fascinating watch! No doubt I'll have to give the first a watch at some point in the near future. The point about Back to the Future I find especially compelling as someone who loves that series. BTTF is, indeed, a great example on how to keep a property alive without tarnishing its legacy by exploring it in other mediums and steadfastly refusing to tarnish the original vision with unnecessary additions.
Very great video I thought you made a lot of valid points and while I don't necessarily want this franchise to end I did end up agreeing with a lot of things you said. Overall I think we can both agree that this franchise was great and that Spielberg's original vision will always be remembered. Anyways have a good day and take care!
Jurassic Park should’ve been one movie and that’s it. Even the crew wanted it that way before the studio demanded a sequel. I like the other 5 movies, Jurassic World 1 being my second favourite of the franchise but Jurassic Park should’ve never have been a franchise.
I’m glad you didn’t bash TLW like a lot of other channels I’ve seen. I agree it was completely unnecessary but it was never an inherently bad movie whatsoever, at least to me. Edit: And yes, I hate Camp Cretaceous with a burning passion and no one can change my mind
I used to think camp cretaceous was ok but I knew years ago an ongoing jp series is impossible to make. I rolled my eyes at the mention of a series being made and, while it's better than it could've been, it's still stupid and pointless.
@@buster3041 Agreed. I stopped after Season 2 because I knew this series was going on way too long and it was clear that they had no idea how to continue the story when it could’ve just ended with 2 and going home. The fact that they stretched it out to Season 3, 4 and 5… really tires me
camp cretaceous was clear indication to me that Dominion felt more like a live action adaptation of animated property that never existed. At best! I'll have admit that ive compartmentalize this saga like its the 6th Sense. Because only in your dreams or another planet entirely are going to survive being shot w/ a dino tranq in midst of volcano eruption.....with full capacity? And with EVERYTHING that has transpired after that, sound like someone who has suffered traumatic brain damage , lucid vivid hallucination? Or does this sound familiar "die before he even knew he had accident?" To me, if there was a possibility to resurrect some integrity for dominion's storyboard, make it animated. and if not, some episodic limited release on streaming. And do your story and your characters, and this trademark u obviously have some passion for, with ample justice & courage of your convictions, instead brand recognition, copy & paste, or any worse, a drag & drop measure of resolve & followed immediately by a back to back to back to back in epic battle of 2 prehistoric bohemians. like original power rangers.
The lost world is the only movie I can consistently rewatch in the Jurassic Park Franchise Edit: When Camp Cretaceous was revealed I knew I wasn’t going to like its more silly like nature
Calling back from the conclusion, endpoint of your video and the title, and how BTTF ended on a good note and never made any sequels. It reminded me of an anime studio that was widely known for their sparkling creativity, called Studio Trigger Back when Gainax was still thriving and most of their talents were still working over there(until those who made Eva moved to Khara and those who worked on TTGL and PSG to Trigger), one of their greatest modern hits was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, a love letter to the mecha genre that took inspiration from various animes from 2 decades ago. All it got after it's premiere and finale were movie recaps that were like NG+ and merch. It never got a sequel because the show ended on a perfect and satisfying note that will never be touched ever again. Recently, to celebrate it's 15th anniversary, now thanks to Studio Trigger or rather Hiroyuki Imaishi(director of the show) who owes and holds its rights decided to rerelease the movie recaps in 4K HD in theaters around the world and to give the movies eng dubs that were nonexistent before. No new sequel or standalone that took place in the same universe. All it had were maybe some callbacks, references, and such. This even applies to Studio Trigger's other works for not releasing another season or a sequel like Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Promare, except for Panty & Stockings(the director even had this plan for another season) which they felt they have some creative juices to add reasonably What I'm getting that, is that most of their works do one original anime(doesn't apply to adaptations of mangas outside of their original stuff) that ends on a good note, nothing more after that and the merch can call home until the cows come home If someone wants to make a sequel or a trilogy, they would've been done so for ART like Shrek(not the 3rd film), Kung Fu Panda, or How to Train your Dragon which had stories to tell, universes to expand, and more themes and lessons for our characters and audience
yeah, this is why I didn't give a crap after the 2nd Jurrasic world movie. Me and my brother were kinda disappointed and stopped caring after that. They've milked it too much that now it's become a mess. Honestly, nothing's going to beat the OG. Great vid btw
Excellent work! Hope this gets lots of viewership, especially for its final message about Hollywood's bad habits in the modern day. I can really feel your enthusiasm for that first film, here.
It is incredible that a story made by an internet user such as "the mystery flesh pit national park" resembles more like the first movie and novel of jurassic park than any of the JW stuff
This video really spoke to me especially the ending. we need to save filmmaking from dying. not only will i try to do it after college, but when schools start teaching it in 9th grade and above.
Although the lost world has some issues, the cut flying dinosaur ending being a big one, Spielberg made sure to treat the dinosaurs… like actual f*cking animals! Where the world films and to an extent JP3 feel like puppets on a string
40:40… what I have been trying to say since the first shitty world movie came out. There’s nothing of the novel in these last movies. Stop talking nonsense when you compare the novel to Dominion. You haven’t read it or, worse, you didn’t understand it at all.
This is an amazing video. I so glad I discovered this channel. Honestly, I think I could forgivre these Jurrasic Park sequels if they were at least fun films. I'd argue Fallen Kingdom is the best World movie due to it having the best direction. But Collin's movies feel shoddy in their direction, as if he isn't really trying at all. I also think if the films took themselves less seriously my enjoykent of them would increase tenfold. I'm a Godzilla fan. While I love the more serious and thought-provoking films like the original, Shin and Minus One, I also love the sillier cheesy WWE like movies that the franchise has like the late showa era and monsterverse movies. Those movies know exactly what they are and don't try to hide it. The Jurrasic Park sequels on the other hand always try to act deeper than they really are.
11:38 “ugly dinosaur redesigns”…. The Jp 3 raptor has such a unique design and many of the Dino’s have completely fresh coloration and pattern. Jp3 has some of the most colorful dinos in the franchise. The killing off of the only trex in the movie was because trex got tons of screen time in the last 2. If the trex was used more, everyone would complain that the trex was overused.
Fantastic video! I've never seen a video so articulately describe the ongoing murder of beloved franchises by modern Hollywood. Great job to you and all others involved! Keep up the great work!
on an extra side note, this is also a perfect shutdown of "This is what Crichton would've wanted!" "argument". Very satisfying video for a long time JP fan.
I know, it's one of the elements of the first novel that I really don't like. The second half of the book just drags on in general, and loses a lot of the scientific rationale and tension from the first half. Grant injecting eggs with a syringe and rolling them down the hall for raptors to eat (and then die) is another strange moment that would have felt really silly had it been adapted to the screen.
I haven’t watched Fallen Kingdom or Dominion, and I’m not sure I want to at this point. After Jurassic World and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, I’m tired of rehashing classics from my childhood. Also, while Grant and Sattler’s relationship in these movies was brought up in this video, I think it’s worth mentioning that they weren’t ever a couple in Crichton’s novels. So, the whole thing with Ellie being with someone else in JP 3 is actually book-accurate. And I kind of like it that way. You don’t need to crowbar another Hollywood love story into this series. It’s perfectly reasonable that two people split up and don’t get back together
Its possible to make a good Jurrassic park movie. But damn unlikely with these people because they don't follow the original, they follow the cashgrabs sequels of the original.
In my opinion what made JP1 so memorable was the park itself. The visitors center, the gates , the raptor pen, t rex paddock , they were all so iconic. Even the vehicles. The sequels had none of this. Well world did, just done worse. The park was the heart of the film. Take it away and you have ' generic action film with dinosaurs."
Watching this video was very cathartic. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who is sick to death of this tired, worn-out exploited husk of a franchise. Its stranglehold over the public perception of prehistory and over reliance on nostalgia is infuriating and needs to end. We desperately need something fresh and new about dinosaurs that is actually thoughtful and creative. No more of this dreck.
@@MBRSims I'm working on a dinosaur VFX project at the moment, and trust me, I've complained a lot about how generic and uninformed the dinosaur depictions are. Jurassic Park was a huge leap forward, but we're still stuck in the 90's because the newer films refuse to further the public's understanding of dinosaurs. I *still* have to remind people about dinosaurs being more like birds instead of crocodiles and other reptiles. I guess no one paid attention to Grant's speech at the dig site, but to be fair, when the visual and behavioural representations of these animals still aren't as avian as they should be, I guess I can't be too mad at the layperson's misunderstanding. Obviously the movies themselves need a total refresh, but I think the terrible stories would be at least a little easier to swallow if the dinosaurs looked better, shining a light on paleontological advancements to the mainstream.
18:16 as poor as the original sequels are one thing they at least did right compared to the World series is make the dinosaurs still feel like unpredictable animals. In World they make them just pantomime villains or like pet dogs there to help their bro humans. Now just feels like someone kid playing and throwing dinosaur toys together in mock fights
It doesn't really bother me in the same way it does others. Yea, no one wants bad films, but I don't see how they can taint previous installments in a series-- I just pretend there are only 2 Terminator films, 3 Alien, 2 Robocop and 2 Predator movies.
Jurassic Park and The Lost World, I love. I obviously love Jurassic Park the Best! Jurassic Park 3's really dumb, but a Guilty pleasure. As some of the Effects are legit really cool to look at. Jurassic World, while just being action and Nonesense is slowly becoming a Guilty Pleasure of mine too. Seeing as how my Nostalgia from nearly ten years ago is slowly fading away. Everything after has just no redeeming Qualities. And I could not agre with you more. Jurassic Park Sequels need to stop. EDIT: This at 53:39 Made me gag in real life...
Fun fact about every jurassic park/world film: 1-) the reason why in jurassic park, mr. arnold died off-screen is because he left the set too early, so they decided to just make a arm prop for him 2-) in the lost workd, there is a deleted scene where Ajay dies in the tallgrass from the raptors, but was eliminated from screen and all that is left is just his screams in the lost world 3-) Jurassic Park three had a VERY rough development cycle 4-) Jurassic world was supposed to answer the following question: What would happen if jurassic Park Succesfully opened after 2005 (which is explained in a rondom jurassic park book/website) 5-)In Jurassic world Fallen Kingdom, There was supposed to be Two indoraptor’s, one white and another black, but only the black one was ultimately choosen 6-) In Dominion, The was Dodgson dies is a reference to how dennis Nedry died in Jurassic park, They were both bussiness asociates and both died by the same dinosaur! (also best thing about dominion is dilophosauru’s)
"Jurassic Park was a movie about bringing back dinosaurs" "Jurassic World is a movie about bringing back Jurassic Park" Think of it like making a copy of a copy, they get worse on the way down, JW is a husk of JP, barely related to actual dinosaurs or paleontology like JP was - Coolio_Art Now I do love the first trilogy and the second trilogy equally, but it just seems like that the JW movies seem to be more like just regular action movies, while the original trilogy was more focused on the actual dinosaurs and paleontology. In fact, Jurassic Park both the movie and the book generated so much interest in dinosaurs that the study of paleontology has had a record increase of students, so it left a huger cultural impact than any of the JW movies. Not saying that there aren't passionate people behind the Jurassic World films, but these movies exist pretty much just to pander to the nostalgia of JP, their stories and characters are usually extremely convoluted or flat and without the name "Jurassic" these films just wouldn't hold.
*Not saying that there aren't passionate people behind the Jurassic World films, but these movies exist pretty much just to pander to the nostalgia of JP, their stories and characters are usually extremely convoluted or flat and without the name "Jurassic" these films just wouldn't hold* They already don't hold.
This was a fantastic video! You nailed right on the head my feelings about the newer films and I've only seen World with theaters for a laugh, but it really just felt cruel and so far-removed from the core of the first film. It's depressing. Hard agree: Not every movie needs a sequel. Sometimes something can be one and done or a set of episodes with a definite beginning and end (Over the Garden Wall comes to mind). Again, great video!
While I agree with most of this, I think it's a little silly to blame the Indominus escape on Chris Pratt's character (I do not remember this bland slop of a movie enough to remember his character's name, nor do I care enough to look it up). Disregarding the MASSIVE engineering flaws of the enclosure that wouldn't fly even for a wolf exhibit in any AZA accredited zoo (speaking from experience here), his character wasn't even the first person inside, he was told to go in, and to top it all off, they somehow didn't even consider checking the tracking device implanted into its skin before sending people inside.
Fallen Kingdom and Dominion were the only objectively terrible movies; boring action, cringe humor & incompetent writing with no charm, appeal, or genuine thrills.
My favorites in order are 1. Jurassic Park 2. Jurassic World 3. The Lost World: Jurassic Park 4. Jurassic Park 3 The other 2 such as Fallen Kingdom and Dominion is just so messy and honestly terrible and loses the magic of Jurassic Park and dinosaurs in general. I also do not like Camp Cretaceous at all mainly just because of the cheesiness but also the animation looks in my opinion bad like I’d prefer the Gravity Falls animation. The main idea of Jurassic World: Fallen kingdom in my opinion should’ve been the plot of Jurassic Park 4, & Jurassic Park 5 & 6 should’ve been a part 1 & 2 story taking place in sort of a apocalypse where dinosaurs are on the mainland and sort of having a ecosystem equilibrium and destruction. I think Universal should make new Dinosaur IP franchises instead of exploiting the Jurassic Park Franchise.
I feel like with jurassic world, it was a decent but good movie compared to its sequels. Fallen kingdom was garbage while dominion was alright but could've done better. The whole indoraptor idea was neat but it made no sense when telling it to attack a target by using the Lazer mechanic when you could've just shot the target instead. For a military weapon idea, it was pretty stupid
that show was fantastic for the most part, some episodes are meh but both dinosaurs ans humans were amazing in it. I am so excited for the spinoff and I can't wait until friday!
The only exception would be if they want to make Jurassic Park and the Lost World again but even closer to the book. Especially the Lost world since the movie was not even close to the same story
I would be interested in seeing that, since it would be completely separate from the existing film universe and could have a fresh direction, but I don't ever expect it. The movies are far too popular for what they already are - and I prefer the tone of the films over the books anyway. The books only became as dark as they were because Crichton's publishers told him that a more child-friendly story wouldn't sell.
I have a huge crush on Ariana Richards and would love to see her return as Lex Murphy. But after seeing this video, I’ve realized that maybe the best version of Lex is in the first movie. Knowing Hollywood, they’d screw it up. And I’d hate to see Ariana involved in that.
I don't think they should stop making them. I was born in 87, so I'm intimately versed in the first movie and love it. Dinosaurs are fun and Movies are fun. What I didn't like was in the 5th movie that noblin asking Claire "OF COURSE YOU KNOW JON HAMMOND?" really irks me but 6 was fun Let's get weird with it and make a western with dinos
I'd disagree on the Jurassic Park designs being bland; the touches of color were IMO aesthetically pleasant and an improvement over the grey and browns of specially the first film. But that's it.
This whole idea of weaponising the dinosaurs just pulls me right out of the films… it’s so stupid to me as the magic of Jurassic park was the horror of such deadly creatures on the loose and potentially hunting you while you try find a way to escape. But to domesticate them with a hand gestures is just so stupid to me like I get dinosaur films is not realistic but nobody would want to domesticate a dinosaur and use them in modern combat 😂 the enemy would just shoot it straight away lol
All the sequals use material from the books: the rocket launcher at raptors is in the first book so is their ability to change colour, the island blowing up is in the first book by the army destroying it, the raptors are evil sobs in both books to illustrate their otherworldliness. The movies were more child friendly thab the books. Personally id love to see a rapter face emerge from a carcass, covered in blood as you see with African predators.
Just so we're clear, the best (and potentially only good) thing about the Jurassic World movie is the score. There are some cues from the first 2 World movies that legitimately have the sense of adventure and danger that you'd expect in a SNES game based on the first movie. A+ stuff. Just too bad the movies they were in were such products.
@@telekinesticman Bruh, the "March of the Wheatley Cavalcade/Raiders of the Lost Isla Nublar" cues (first 30 seconds at least) takes me back to being 8 years old figuring out how to get past the T. Rex in the SNES game. His work is amazing no matter what project he contributes to. Now I'm definitely going to have to check out that PS1 game!
Fun Fact: Sam Neill has gone on record saying his favorite JP movie is actually JP3, citing he enjoyed filming it. And while I agree it’s the weakest of the original trilogy, 3 is still a better movie that all the World movies. More effort ironically was put into its production, it doesn’t overstay its welcome with a short runtime, and it’s got overall good pacing with the Spinosaurus being an effective menacing and terrifying antagonist.
after seeing this video it makes me glad I only watched the first jurrasic park movie its really nightmarish seeing how the franchise turned out makes me glad i didn't watch anything past the first movie
This was your best video yet. This really speaks to the soul of the original Jurassic Park fans who have to deal with this corporate shlock. Exactly as you said, BTTF has remained relevant and popular despite only having a trilogy that ended in 1990. Here's hoping we get a big budget Jurassic PARK game for the 30th!
i agree with that sentiment
I agree to. But I have to ask. What are you doing here?
@@sammyt7981 Caelum is a good friend of mine, and Jurassic Park is the closest thing I have to religion.
Oh OK that makes sense considering the fact that he is labeled as friends on your channels list
One question about your next live stream: when is the next one coming up and what can we expect you to be making on their?
Guess they didn't watch the video. Here we go again.
We don’t have to for new ideas
That’s not a personal rebuddle that is an actual quote someone in charge of green lighting this new movie said
We gotta have some spice, can’t re use the same old company is bad trope instead I wish their was a Jurassic park movie where the military was planning to kill all dinosaurs with a virus, we can get a money heist thrill theme where a team or 8 land on the island infultrating it, we get guns blazing and in the end they end up in the room with the virus and take a sample. They get captured and the military wants to kill them until they find out the entire team is broadcasting to the world. Due to the criticism they are let free just like the end of money heist.
I feel like this is a cool idea I made up
as someone who’s dad loves the first two movies, i never really got why he hated world so much, as i thought it was ok when it first came out.
but then i saw this video, and i thought to myself, “maybe i should watch the first two movies…”
so i sat down with my dad and watch the first two movies, and i can see why they’re so beloved. this video not only made me realize how marvel is ruining modern cinema, but it helped me discover why people love the first two movies so much.
i also got to spend some time with my dad, so thanks for that as well.
Over a year later and this is still one of the best Jurassic Park related videos on CZcams
Oh, I never knew you were a fan!
This actually left me a bit depressed and certainly frustrated.. why? Because it's reality, thats why.
Shoving Chris Pratt down our throats didn't help
3 things.
Speaking of trilogies that end on a high note
I gotta give respect to Dreamworks from CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg for deciding Shrek Forever After to not only be the last Shrek film of the franchise (FOR NOW) but to also cancel the planned 5th film and to decide that the 4th film will be the end of it all. The best thing about the 4th film what that it not only fixed the damage that the 3rd film made but to end the franchise on a high note
Because Shrek is a work of art that should be left alone and only be touched
JPOG music coming in clutch.
This was a wonderful video Caelum. It completely sums up how a majority of us Jurassic Park fans feel.
It's crazy how even I, someone who enjoys JP3 because it's so bad, found no enjoyment in the Jurassic World movies.
Again nice work!
P.S. We all just LOVE the Stygimoloch
And, Jeff Goldblum's back 🫨
Greetings from Brazil!
Stuck culture
As a former Star Wars fan, I can feel the pain of having a once beloved franchise of movies tarnished by unnecessary sequels. But as long as people keep buying tickets for this regurgitated slop, these problems with modern cinema aren’t going away any time soon.
Quit being a whiner, you weren't a real fan. You can still watch the original 6 movies and ignore Disney's trash.
The fact that the first one is the best one is just sad, it’s literally been 30 YEARS
Something that bugs me about the Jurassic Park franchise is how they treat herbivorous dinosaurs as puppies, sorry but NO, just because they are herbivorous does not mean they are harmless, check out real life herbivores.
Considering we have few instances of herbivore dinos with healed injuries from predators (including Rex bites in face) they ain't docile helpless creatures.
This is the best thing you've done, it's even better than Best and Worst Games of 2021
The love, the passion, the care, this is your Magnum Opus
Great video. Well written, well narrated, terrifically edited, super engaging and relevant, just great all around. Excellent work, a lot of hard work was put into this and it shows.
I came across this video awhile ago, & I’m shocked that it doesn’t have like 500k views. This was an amazingly made video
Thank you! If I'm lucky it could get sucked into the algorithm this year for Jurassic Park's 30th anniversary, but probably not.
Thank you! And best of luck on your short film.
How stupid. This was a total bait and switch movement
Don't even get me started on the overuse of Chris Pratt's magic hand thing and the retconning of Maisie's background.
This video Is very rewatchable
When I heard the Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis soundtrack I already knew I was going to love this video. And, in fact, I did.
Yeah, I agree, no more Jurassic park movies. I mean I love this franchise and all, but it does not need to last this long.
"Spider Man left his wallet at home"not gonna lie, that was hilarious.
"...I don't think we are gonna se Jurassic Park turn extinct ..." Extinction is sometimes necessary, specially to allow new lifeforms to come into existence.
@@DarkGellidous to burrow from another dinosaur franchise: "No species last forever."
Yep, I love The Lost World but can still acknowledge its flaws, and that it didn't really *need* to exist in the first place.
Or does this sound familiar "die before he even knew he had accident?"
To me, if there was a possibility to resurrect some integrity for dominion's storyboard, make it animated. and if not, some episodic limited release on streaming.
The lost world is the only movie I can consistently rewatch in the Jurassic Park Franchise
Edit: When Camp Cretaceous was revealed I knew I wasn’t going to like its more silly like nature
Calling back from the conclusion, endpoint of your video and the title, and how BTTF ended on a good note and never made any sequels.
It reminded me of an anime studio that was widely known for their sparkling creativity, called Studio Trigger
Back when Gainax was still thriving and most of their talents were still working over there(until those who made Eva moved to Khara and those who worked on TTGL and PSG to Trigger), one of their greatest modern hits was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, a love letter to the mecha genre that took inspiration from various animes from 2 decades ago.
This even applies to Studio Trigger's other works for not releasing another season or a sequel like Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Promare, except for Panty & Stockings(the director even had this plan for another season) which they felt they have some creative juices to add reasonably
What I'm getting that, is that most of their works do one original anime(doesn't apply to adaptations of mangas outside of their original stuff) that ends on a good note, nothing more after that and the merch can call home until the cows come home
If someone wants to make a sequel or a trilogy, they would've been done so for ART like Shrek(not the 3rd film), Kung Fu Panda, or How to Train your Dragon which had stories to tell, universes to expand, and more themes and lessons for our characters and audience
yeah, this is why I didn't give a crap after the 2nd Jurrasic world movie.
To be fair some random tree in the woods resembles a Michael Crichton novel more than JW. At least print a MC novel on it if you try hard enough.
16:40 Man, I couldn't agree more on JW.
@@MattNL thank you! I've gotten very, very sick of Crichton arguments and finally wanted to articulate why it doesn't make any sense.
@@telekinesticman You got the point across beautifully (:
47:40 Fun fact : In the Jurassic Park Novel by Michael Crichton , Robert Mulldoon killed a Velciraptor with a rocket launcher.
Holy cow what a fantastic video! This deserves all the views and I can’t wait to see what you make next!
Dinosaurs
Unpopular opinion but I loved every Jurassic instalment and I believe they deserve to stay alive.
Yup. Hollywood has ruined every IP they possibly can. Indiana Jones, star wars, JP. all my favorite things have been soiled
The Lost World is a great sequel
How has this video not gone viral and gotten a million views?
27:46 Excuse me, that _is_ horrifying. Though you're on the money with this video, as much as I love JP3. Good job 👏🏼
This is so good
very good and cool video would reccomend
I’m going to start my own Jurassic Park movies someday and I’m the great fit for the Jurassic Park franchise
I wish more franchises were like BTTF man
It doesn't really bother me in the same way it does others. Yea, no one wants bad films, but I don't see how they can taint previous installments in a series-- I just pretend there are only 2 Terminator films, 3 Alien, 2 Robocop and 2 Predator movies.
This is what you call the dawn of time
They should've stopped making the movies after the first one, certainly shouldn't have gone beyond 2.
The lost world is my guilty pleasure
Fun fact about every jurassic park/world film:
1-) the reason why in jurassic park, mr. arnold died off-screen is because he left the set too early, so they decided to just make a arm prop for him
2-) in the lost workd, there is a deleted scene where Ajay dies in the tallgrass from the raptors, but was eliminated from screen and all that is left is just his screams in the lost world
3-) Jurassic Park three had a VERY rough development cycle
4-) Jurassic world was supposed to answer the following question: What would happen if jurassic Park Succesfully opened after 2005 (which is explained in a rondom jurassic park book/website)
5-)In Jurassic world Fallen Kingdom, There was supposed to be Two indoraptor’s, one white and another black, but only the black one was ultimately choosen
6-) In Dominion, The was Dodgson dies is a reference to how dennis Nedry died in Jurassic park, They were both bussiness asociates and both died by the same dinosaur!
(also best thing about dominion is dilophosauru’s)
Amazing video analysis, Dude!
"Jurassic Park was a movie about bringing back dinosaurs"
"Jurassic World is a movie about bringing back Jurassic Park"
Think of it like making a copy of a copy, they get worse on the way down, JW is a husk of JP, barely related to actual dinosaurs or paleontology like JP was
- Coolio_Art
Now I do love the first trilogy and the second trilogy equally, but it just seems like that the JW movies seem to be more like just regular action movies, while the original trilogy was more focused on the actual dinosaurs and paleontology.
*Not saying that there aren't passionate people behind the Jurassic World films, but these movies exist pretty much just to pander to the nostalgia of JP, their stories and characters are usually extremely convoluted or flat and without the name "Jurassic" these films just wouldn't hold*
They already don't hold.
My favorites in order are
1. Jurassic Park
2. Jurassic World
3. The Lost World: Jurassic Park
4. Jurassic Park 3
The other 2 such as Fallen Kingdom and Dominion is just so messy and honestly terrible and loses the magic of Jurassic Park and dinosaurs in general.
I still stand by that Camp Cretaceous (I like all of the seasons) is super underrated and is the best Jurassic Park show/movie that's not the first
that show was fantastic for the most part, some episodes are meh but both dinosaurs ans humans were amazing in it. I am so excited for the spinoff and I can't wait until friday!
JW Fallen Kingdom is a better ending to the series than JW Dominion.
You are absolutely right. No sequel was ever needed. They get worse every time.
This is true, but it's also true they could have made good meaningful sequels if they wanted to.
This is so well done.
What I didn't like was in the 5th movie that noblin asking Claire "OF COURSE YOU KNOW JON HAMMOND?" really irks me but 6 was fun
Let's get weird with it and make a western with dinos
Based
Love ur non sonic videos keep it up
26:36 I completely get it. But in the Carnos defense, it is theorized that the Carnotaurus wasn't very stable when running corners
Nah People are not wrong for Loving or Defending the Jurassic World trilogy
Don't think I ever said they were "wrong", I just strongly disagree and personally think they suck.
also jurassic park isn't perfect. no movie is perfect@@telekinesticman
@@dragozillasaur813 ok
I'd disagree on the Jurassic Park designs being bland; the touches of color were IMO aesthetically pleasant and an improvement over the grey and browns of specially the first film. But that's it.
Funny enough when i was kid, i hated the lost world because it was to scary
The Lost World was fine. It’s a shame Spielberg himself dislikes it because it’s a fun movie and far from his worst.
This needs about 100x more views
Thank you! I'm still a bit disappointed that this video didn't perform very well, but maybe it'll magically blow up later on.
@@telekinesticman it'll blow up when the next Jurassic movie is announced...
Fuck
The era of great movies is over...and im glad that i lived on earth in the universe at the right time to experience it. R.I.P. Blockbusters.
Michael Giacchino is a great composer, I agree. I'm a big fan of his score for The Lost World PS1 game and the first Jurassic World.
Remember kids if you want to be a Director be a Spielberg not a Trevorrow
Spielberg was still involved in the making of these movies.
He gave his personal blessing.
The only good part about these movies are the Lego sets
great vid!
