    One quick note. When removing the filter not only a rag but a small catch pan, old cool whip container etc.....Right before the last thread on the filter housing slide the catch pan by the filter. Pull filter housing very quickly UP and immediately flip over into the catch pan. Reduces spillage and yes you might need a rag but the catch pan should capture most of the old oil.

    You are right. No bmw in the world is a v6. All bmw engine is in- line . That is why they are the best engine in the world, if taken care properly from day one. Aka ultimate driving machine.

      2CarPros I have a 2004 bmw 525i, I recently changed the oil. So, the level should be between the Min and Max lines right? when it's warm right? thanks your videos are helpful.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Před 7 lety

      Fill it to between the min max lines. Then start the engine and let it run for 20 seconds and check it again. If it has dropped any fill it back in between those two points. The heat of the engine doesn't really matter when you are checking for fullness.

    Do you have to change the filter when you change the oil?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, there is a decent amount of dirty oil in and not to mention the dirty filter materiel will pollute the new oil. This kinda eliminates the point of changing the oil. Thanks for watching!

  • @luboslavfrastia3251
    @luboslavfrastia3251 Před 9 lety +1

    Hej, question: is it really necessary to change oil every year? Even If I have driven just like 10.000km=7.000miles? Somebody told me that oil is deteriorating and thats why it has to be changed every year, but I saw the date for usage on the BMW oil at least several years 2 or 3.

    • @JP-qb4zn
      @JP-qb4zn Před 9 lety

      The date for usage has nothing to do with how often you change the oil in your engine. And to be sure, it should be changed more frequently than once a year. Oil breaks down over time from heat, shear, and contamination from condensates. It used to be with regular oil that you needed to change it about every three months. With newer synthetics, you can go longer. I no case would I go a year before changing it. If you wanted, and you were using a very high quality synthetic, you might get away with doing it every 6 months. My personal timeline is about every 4-6 months with Catrol Edge Extended Performance synthetic, which promises 15,000 miles.

    • @tarpara
      @tarpara Před 9 lety

      If you live in the U.S., then oil needs to be changed at least once a year because U.S. Petrol has too much sulfur. In Europe, you can typically go 2 years or 30,000km without oil change because of low sulfur petrol. Just google sulphur PPM USA.
      Soon USA will have low sulphur petrol in a few years.

    • @michaelskipwith5337
      @michaelskipwith5337 Před 8 lety

      tarpara bullshit oil level will be low and engine will fail 3000 miles oil change or 6000 for synthetic to keep it healthy

    • @tarpara
      @tarpara Před 8 lety

      Michael Skipwith A combination of better oil and lower sulfur fuel in the US has made 3000 mile oil changes obsolete. If you want to do 6-7.5k changes go right ahead. Most people will be find with once a year as their normal schedule. Once US goes zero-sulfur like in Europe, oil changes will be up to two years in some scenarios.

    Hello,
    Is it too expensive to own a bmw? compared to a Honda would maintenance cost be 10, 20, or 30% more? what's your opinion? thanks

    • @MsSalim20001
      @MsSalim20001 Před 10 lety +2

      not really, BMW requires full synthetic (30$ more expensive than regular oil for Honda). I use Mobile1 oil/ purolator oil filter.
      For the brake, take the best brake possible (probably bosh) about 100$ more expensive then a good brake for honda

    • @BakuganBrawler211
      @BakuganBrawler211 Před 8 lety +2

      In some ways just change oil with full synthetic change brake fluids and all that with fully synthetic fluids change the anti freeze every 75k miles buy nice brakes not cheap ones blow off the air filter every oil change change if needed and run 93 octane through it only thing is that if you take it to a BMW retailer for every little thing you will need a lot of cash so look for a local mechanic that works on BMW and learn up on maintenance so you can save money by doing stuff on your own take care of an engine and it will never give you trouble

    • @donthompson7996
      @donthompson7996 Před 8 lety

      +Tyler Walter ok.. since you think you know how to work on a bmw 5 series I thought i would let you in on a secret.. people who ACTUALLY own one of the vehicles have a handy booklet with the manual on service and warranty information. you are spreading misleading information about the car. For example - engine oil is changed at least once a year or every 15,000 miles. recommend oil type BMW High Performance 5-30 synthetic oil. every oil change you replace the ventilation microfilter. every 3rd oil change , replace the air filter element. Brake fluid service is every 2 years, or when prompted by CBS. Oxeygen sensor service is every 120,000 miles. On a 528i, 528xi, 550i change spark plugs at 100,000 miles. 535i,535xi, 535xi sports wagon change spark plugs at 45,000 miles. engine coolant has a lifetime rating so only needs to be refilled.. not flushed... automatic transmission fluid flushed and filled at 100,000 miles. So please learn some more about the car you don't have if you want to help others with theirs. and that run on sentence of a comment was trophy worthy on a youtube level, props.

    • @JackRR15
      @JackRR15 Před 8 lety +2

      +ProjectCarTV BMW oil is usually just re-branded oil from like Castrol or Penzoil. The oil company does not really matter thus.

    • @mattmodena8299
      @mattmodena8299 Před 8 lety +2

      +ProjectCarTV Mobile 1 meets spec. They change their oil recommendations from time to time. Castrol? Seriously? You would have that before Redline or Mobil1? Odd.

    • @pacmanzz
      @pacmanzz Před 8 lety +1

      Castrol Edge Black Titanium Dexos is a far better oil than Mobil 1, and in terms of the delicate BMW engine components such as the precision piston placements, it needs a specific formulated oil to increase engine life and performance. The car is designed for 5w-30 castrol blend depending on the year, using 0w-20 european mobil 1 blend damages the internal components over time. BMW of Bayside, come visit sometime.

    • @pacmanzz
      @pacmanzz Před 8 lety

      And if you want to use aftermarket filters, not MANN spec, go ahead, but dont cry when you have to prematurely replace gaskets because of the contaminants in the oil. Its a BMW, not a Mercedes, not an Audi, a BMW, and its delicate and has to be SPEC to that production year.
