    I just did this job and this video was very informative, it went great!!! Thank you Albert.
    There are a couple other videos too that show the system better, but this one is succinct. There is a video here that shows the whole system out of the car: BMW 535i LPFP overview and connections: BMW 535i LPFP overview and connections.
    I've done a few of these type of pump attachments, but they were all out of the car on American cars. I was concerned that I couldn't get a screwdriver in at the right angle so I bought that top ring and flipped it over as a tool. But it did not work well, the filter was spinning around and I thought a wire or hose may break so I had to resort to the sharp impact of the hammer/screwdriver. Everything ultimately went well!
    I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to jump the fuel pump relay (there isn't one in the E60/N52). To do it over, I wouldn't worry too much about the fuel in the tank... the assembly comes pretty far-up prior to disconnect. If you want to get the fuel out of there a $10 Harbor Freight transfer pump would work great after the ring is removed.

    16-12-6-760-754 Fuel Line 1 1 40.20 That is the hose that has the quick connect on the top of the filter he is changing. Besides the crack in the "filter housing" this HOSE is usually going to cause a leak. ..BMW List was 40.20 in Feb of 2018. Good job on the video. We found it and showed to our customer.. Using some epoxy might be a quick solution but since these leak quite a bit of fuel, you should do the hose and filter at the same time. It will save you going back. Ask us how we know!

    First off, thank you and thanks for watching. The unit I purchased came (with everything needed for the swap) together as a whole including the rubber seal. I accidentally ordered an extra seal thinking that it didn't come with it. The part # I used is 16117373514 and that is a Bosch unit.

    • @1milgrill
      @1milgrill  Před 10 lety +1

      Hi Bruce. Yes there is a more convenient (cleaner,safer) way. While your car is running locate the fuel pump fuse/relay and remove it. Wait until the car stalls out. The line should have a lot less pressure but still might leak some fuel when removed. Good luck and thank you for watching.

    • @1milgrill
      @1milgrill  Před 10 lety +2

      That might work too but the way I have done it with older cars is 1. while the car is already running 2. then pull the relay or fuse. Also, not sure but you might get a check engine light or something. I did not get any check engine lights doing it like the video but just wanted to give you a heads up.

    Nice DIY on E60 fuel filter. This is similar to replacing the fuel pump in an E46 (3-series) BMW.
    I see that your filter has the sending unit and float attached. The new filters available online don't include the sending unit ($60 extra). Did you just swap the old sender and float onto the new filter?

      @1milgrill  Před 10 lety

      Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same exact process for the estates/touring/wagons, but should probably be similar. BMW and many other manufacturers try to share as many parts as possible to keeps costs down. Closely look at the details of parts/numbers to be replaced to make sure everything is the same.

      I connected everything and it was driving fine during the test drive. Then after I put in a full tank of gas and I parked it in the garage it started spilling out gas and made a huge 5 feet puddle underneath the car. I then took off the back seat then removed the metal plate and there was a little lake of gas. I cleaned it up and thought it was ok then after 3 minutes the gas started building up again with the O ring and circular metal ring in place.
