  • Maggie Rogers gives a heartfelt speech prior to performing her hit song “Alaska” and thanks the crowd for her success. During the monologue at the Moody Theater in Austin TX, she gets disrespected by a few from the crowd to the point where it nearly becomes too uncomfortable to continue.

I think she acted alright. It’s not about “don’t take yourself so seriously”(like some people are saying in the comments), she was disrespected once, she tried to move on (even said she was uncomfortable) and was going to sing something emotional. Maggie was ready to move on with the music. But people keep on talking about her body and her looks and everybody was talking at the same time when all she wanted was to show her music. Maggie was probably overwhelmed and uncomfortable at that point, I would to. Having a crow of people looking at you, screaming at you and watching your every move, while you feel disrespected, that’s probably not easy. Just try to put yourself in other’s people shoes sometimes. We’re all human

If we want to show other countries how crass and disrespectful we can be to our people, then keep behaving this way, and you will succeed. I have been in this young woman's place as a professional singer in a band and a stand-up comedian performing in similar venues.
