- Maggie Rogers gives a heartfelt speech prior to performing her hit song “Alaska” and thanks the crowd for her success. During the monologue at the Moody Theater in Austin TX, she gets disrespected by a few from the crowd to the point where it nearly becomes too uncomfortable to continue.
some of y'all in the comments really need to grow up. she handled that with grace, dignity, and a lot more class than some of you would ever on a stage. we love you maggie.
"Shut the fukc up!" Yeah, so much grace and dignity.

@@fostersstubbyasmr9557 So, you're full of grace and dignity, too. Amazing.
A very real raw moment. She took something ugly and made it beautiful. She took a selfish careless comment and elevated the moment for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Bravo.
But what if you only have ears to see, and eyes to hear? Bravo.
I think she acted alright. It’s not about “don’t take yourself so seriously”(like some people are saying in the comments), she was disrespected once, she tried to move on (even said she was uncomfortable) and was going to sing something emotional. Maggie was ready to move on with the music. But people keep on talking about her body and her looks and everybody was talking at the same time when all she wanted was to show her music. Maggie was probably overwhelmed and uncomfortable at that point, I would to. Having a crow of people looking at you, screaming at you and watching your every move, while you feel disrespected, that’s probably not easy. Just try to put yourself in other’s people shoes sometimes. We’re all human

This brings back memories of middle school. But in all seriousness, she doesn’t deserve that disrespect.
She crushed it, as someone who works a craft in front of people on a nightly basis that shit was mad disrespectful and she handled that with such grace.
Grace? She told them to stfu. Do you know the definition of grace?

She did. I never said she didn’t.
@@tomd1434 u can't tell someone to be quiet or that they're wrong gracefully? I'd say that was the most graceful, mature, wise, and elegant way anyone has essentially said "stfu" ever lol. She didn't even humiliate them when she could have, therefore treating them with respect when they didn't deserve it. Talk about grace

As someone from Austin, I’m ashamed that they did this
What an absolute angel. Her response to that ignorant disrespect (after she initially cursed) was profound and beautiful.
The moment when she spoked like a ruler of a kingdom everybody realized they fvcked up 🤣 that silence is so satisfying.

yes im from here and very much agree
Austin does suck, and this is coming from a Texan. It’s a bunch of liberal misfits and assholes. What makes Texas great is the small the medium cities. That’s where you will find great, hard working people.
She embodies grace and calm and I'm so glad I saw this. Even bigger fan of her now. That's how you turn an uncomfortable/disrespectful situation into an inspirational/exemplar one.
We are in a state in this country of disrespect and a lack of civility. When we behave in this manner, it shows ignorance and a lack of responsibility to what we say and who we say it. If we want to show other countries how crass and disrespectful we can be to our people, then keep behaving this way, and you will succeed. I have been in this young woman's place as a professional singer in a band and a stand-up comedian performing in similar venues. She was overwhelmed by the outburst and was not prepared for a come back from this audience. Unless you have been there and done that your comments have no merit or credibility. More civility less disrespect! Creative Arts college faculty
Yep
Mama Luigi what did they say before she said I fill uncomfortable
Seriously. When a new artist takes the stage and tells her audience to "Shut the fuck up," I'd certainly have to agree with you. If you're a Creative Arts teacher, you should teach your students professionalism. In baseball they call this "rabbit ears." Give your little speech, sing your song and ignore the catcalls. What she does here is not brave or "woke," it's bush league.
So you think that in the past athletes and entertainers in this country were treated with kid gloves. Ask Jackie Robinson if he were here. Unfortunately crowds are full of morons. Nothing new. Has nothing to do with the “state in this country.”
Creative Arts College Faculty, that tells me everything 🤮😂
At 2:40 I was convinced that when she finished taking she was gonna raise that guy up with her witch magic and snap him in half 😂 love you Maggie

She should’ve walked. Such a stain on Texas crowds. Houston might talk during the set but never have I seen this happen. And if it did at a Houston venue, you’d be kicked the fuck out immediately. She’s a fucking pro and a saint
That was disrespectful of those people! So sorry you had to go through that!!
You tell 'em Maggie! All power to your music, I'm with you 100%!
She handled that brilliantly
A handful of Aholes ruined the good Austin, TX name. They were probably not from Austin because that does not accurately represent the community I live in. Smart, thoughtful, talented people who love music and artists and would never say douchey things like what I heard here. That's the thing about Austin is that it brings so many people from all over the place that want to come live here. Sorry this happened in this awesome city that I love and call home.
The fuck it doesn't. I was harassed and insulted in Austin more than anywhere else I've ever been in my entire life.
Hate to break it too you but lousy folks are everywhere including Austin.
“Austin” and “awesome city” should never be uttered in the same context.
Your city is a shithole.
She nailed it. Maggie is PURE !!!
I really wanted to hear her performance after that speech! I don't suppose anyone has a link to another video clip?
Maggie is an empath and her music is an extension of her …. Pure soul. Pity such toxic people attempted to get at her. God bless Maggie.
Humble and genuine and we love you
Damn. I just had such a visceral response to that. Big ups to her for staying and continuing to talk to the crowd before performing. Sure, audiences have done worse - much worse, in some cases - but that wasn’t cool. She handled it gracefully, respectfully, and with a measure I know I’m too hot headed to maintain in that kind of situation. I hope her words reached as many of the audience members as they needed to - and perhaps the viewers watching it happen afterwards.
She Rocks! Plain and Simple👍 She handled those jackasses as well as can be expected. Good for her👏
Wow! That was such a beautiful response.
What did that first guy yell?
You have an amazing spirit. I am glad you didn't let them get the better of you. You have great inner strength.
They absolutely DID get the better of her. She was literally rendered incapable of performing her music.
Let me time stamp the disrespect 0:52, 2:02
I love how she handled that
That took balls but she held her ground and even re-composed herself for the next song.
Nicely done.
CLASS ACT!
Holy fuck. She handled it so amazingly, but for this to have happened in what is supposed to be a safe space and extremely accepting environment of every kind of human to exist, is baffling to me. I hope people surrounding the specific guy(s) who said those comments told them off and made them feel deeply ashamed for the words they said. Love you so much Mags, truly wish this hadn't happened. The way you handled it shows that you aren't one to fuck around with, and you're a bad bitch.
And to think she had to play this venue again tonight..as I write this, she’s nearing the end of Round 2. Hopefully it goes better with tonight’s crowd.
