I'm a convert to the church. I didn't join till I was 24 yrs old. I thank my Heavenly Father, and my Redeemer for blessing my life and allowing me to know, even as a child, that They existed, that they were separate beings, and that I was loved. I have been less active a couple of times over the years, but I have never lost my testimony of the gospel. Nor have I ever doubted that Joseph Smith restored the Lord's church, or any other prophet since then. We indeed are a very blessed people. Though I've never doubted that the gospel is true, I don't take it lightly. I know that satan is real, and is a master of deception. So I have to continue working daily to stay close to the Lord, the prophet, the general authorities, and local leaders. Thank you sister Dew for your ever encouraging & strengthening words of wisdom, comfort, guidance. 🙏🙏🙏

@kylethedalek I understand the issue of the poked arms. I don't understand it either. But I don't doubt that Russell M Nelson is a prophet. I know he gets guidence from God & Jesus. For me, I did what President Nelson told us to do, as in pray abt whether it was right for me. I don't have answers, but I think that if someone prayed, and felt inspired to get it, He'll protect that person. If they were inspired not to get the shot, He'll protect that person to. It's called faith in doing what we're guided to do. I pray that you don't leave a crack open for satan to squeeze through. It's a daily struggle, and will be required till the Lord comes again. I'm praying for to have peace, comfort, and good health. Stay strong. We need you! The Lord needs you in these final days. 🙏🙏🙏

I was convinced before I was converted - experiencing the love and acceptance of God through the gift of the Holy Ghost. The only “evidence” of God that matters is that personal conversion that connects us to Him. Like Nephi in 2 Nephi 4, we all and even our prophets still have weaknesses and make mistakes - so let’s all keep praying for each other including those called to lead us 😊

President Nelson is indeed a true prophet😇🙏. It's okay to question some things though.... that's how we grow. To never want to learn more or desire further revelation, only depending on our awesome leaders in every direction causes us to lose faith and forget who God is. Sometimes our search for truth will open up windows on a fading testimony and help it grow.
We can't get there unless we're willing to question.

      @JesusChristInspiration I dare say I have a blazing testimony and always have😇.
However, some man-made doctrine has plagued our church and has caused me to question my own worth to the savior. I decided it's not up to me to ask questions only follow and trust so that's always what I have done. But a couple months ago I was being consumed by this, no clue why? I figured I had no business asking so I didn't but it got worse and I was doubting my relationship with the savior. Only one thing left to do....pray. I spent four days in serious prayer and felt prompted to read my patriarchal blessing. In there it states as I desired to know the mysteries of God the heavens would be opened and I would be led to an understanding.
That's exactly what happened. I had So Much light shed on me and I was absolutely led to an understanding that opened eyes unlike any experience I had ever had or even expected. That experience grew my testimony a hundred fold and it wouldn't have happened if I never doubted or questioned. One thing I learned was we have put so much faith in our wonderful but imperfect leaders that we have forgotten who God is and how to reach him. We have stopped seeking comfort and looking for understanding because we have a great prophet and leaders and that seems easier than having to talk to God ourselves.
So, I loved that talk from Sheri Dew😊. But one can't grow their own testimony without experience. We do need to follow the prophet but we need to remember he's God's mouthpiece, not God himself😇😊🙏🤍

When it comes to gospel questions, I have found it very helpful to ask questions as the Book of Mormon suggests in Moroni. We should ask if things are not true, meaning that we first study the matter with real spiritual intent rather than a casual or skeptical attitude.

The scriptures, The current prophet, and personal revelation are like the three legs of a three legged stool. If you cut one in favor of another you will tip over. God sent Nephi back to get the words of the previous prophets even though Lehi's family had two full living prophets at the time and an additional two with the addition of Jacob and Joseph. He said that the reason was that without the scriptures the people would dwindle in unbelief. Great things come in threes. Can we quit pitting one against the other and accept revelation from God in its entirety and use the gift of the Holy Ghost to do our job and discern the truth.

I had a dream!’ How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the Lord. 29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces? “Therefore,” declares the Lord, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me. "Yes,” declares the Lord, “I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, ‘The Lord declares.’ Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” declares the Lord. “They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the Lord."

Good recitation from Jeremiah on false prophets . . . your last comment though, that after Jesus there was no need for prophets, is just your non-scriptural based opinion. And we are definitely not saying that our prophets are "mediators" between us and God. That's a false understanding and caricature of what we believe. We believe in and pray to our Heavenly Father (as Jesus taught), we believe that Jesus is the Messiah and we are only saved by his grace and atonement (not by works), and we follow the prophet as he points us towards Christ (Check out Russel Nelson's last conference addresses -- they are beautiful admonitions to follow Christ). Christ is the only mediator -- that's what Latter-day Saints believe and have always believed.

Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravening wolves.
If the ravenous wolf is on the inside how do we discern a false prophet from a holy one?
It would seem to me that having a study of holy prophets vs false ones would be one method.
In the parable of the wheat and the tares in D&C 101 65-66 we learn God discerns them by looking on the heart he knows his own and gathers the wheat into the garners and the tares remain in the field then he gathers them in bundles and burns them. The tares don’t bare fruit as does wheat 🌾 . Fruit or wheat germ makes it heavy and humble bowing down.
What if false prophets speak in a humble voice and point people to Christ? What if they preach to people that which they term to be the word of God? How then do we detect them?
3 Ne 14 and Matt 7 warn in vs 15 of an unseen enemy and vs 16 says you shall know them by what is seen?
Beware of false prophets that come to you in sheep’s clothing but are inwardly ravenous wolves, Followed by:
Ye shall know them by their fruits.
Fruits when fully ripe are seen with the naked eye they display colors that give the onlooker the signal that they are ready. Fruits also bear down on the branches making them heavy. Often fruit will begin to fall that is fully ripe. I’m stating the obvious.
This seems like a paradox: inward evil not obvious to the eyes ie: wolves dressed as sheep vs fruits that are obvious to the eye.
Ok so if a wolf sounds like a sheep and dresses like a sheep it must be a sheep?
    No
How bout if a tree is tall and has big branches and leaves and bares fruit that is desirable it must needs be good fruit?
God knows that which is good and evil but how do we know? It is given to all humans at birth the light of Christ to discern good from evil.
It is Gods will that we know this wants or he wouldn’t warn us of the precepts of men in 2 Ne 28 being the stumbling block for all who have gone astray even the humble followers of Christ being led to err in many instances.
My point being if 15 men dressed in suits speak what they term to be the word of God to a worldwide church whose members support them with 10% of their gross income to establish more temples-with no more cafeterias mind you, church buildings, new hymn books, city creek mall, bishop storehouses, villas in Hawaii
all because these men point people to Christ and claim they have authority from God to do his work then is that how we know they are holy prophets?
How did the early saints know Joseph was a holy prophet or how did people know Enoch was a prophet, how did the Lamanites know Lehi and Nephi were prophets when they received the testimony of 250 souls who had a baptism of fire and Holy Ghost experience in Hel 10? How did king Benjamin’s people know he was a holy prophet?

    • @troyahuggard3355
      @troyahuggard3355 Před 4 měsíci +1

Yes he does reveal thru personal revelation to the heart and mind. Can you describe that process of personal revelation you have used. Was it by means of prayer? Have you asked Father if these men are his holy prophets and received that answer from him? If so How do you know when it is him speaking to you? Do you check to be sure that your answers are from God ? In my experience Satan answers prayers also and he does so in a fashion that mimics God. I had never prayed about the first presidency before until they asked us to in April 2021 gen conference. When I did I was surprised it was not the answer I supposed.
I was not aware at the time that it was prophesied in the D&C that Zion would begin to be established under Joseph Smith then she would fall because of slothfulness collectively as a people not individually ie Joseph and the faithful elders did not fall, and that after chastening for a little season 179 years God would perform his marvelous work to redeem the wheat from the tares who were sown by the evil one.
Are you aware of the scriptures that describe wicked husbandmen having stewardship over Gods covenant people at the last day? God promises he will destroy them and replace them with true husbandmen that bring forth the fruits.

The problem with "Follow the Prophet" conditioning is that the most stalwart to this principle eventually forget to follow God. They go through the middle man because he speaks more clearly and specifically to them. It's more difficult to decipher God's messages to us in revelation through prayer. Prophets are not infallible, they are still mortal men who, despite intention, make mistakes and tell members things that came from their own mind. I recall a living prophet saying something that I knew was not something I should do. I knew this through my own prayers and personal revelation. I wouldn't follow his counsel and was ridiculed for it. He is not God! We do not worship the prophet with all due respect. The leadership should be general guidance that stays within bounds of church related topics. It is getting well beyond that if you look at the handbook. I'm choosing to stay true to gospel principles and always trust in the counsel I receive from God himself. We are after all, able to speak to God and don't need someone to do that for us.

We need to follow the Prophet and also receive personal revelation for ourselves. Both are needed! With that being said the Prophet is Gods mouth piece here on earth and we would be wise to follow him!

Could you imagine how silly this sounds? Look at the history of the prophets in this last dispensation and tell me you still find it ok to follow the prophet. Think honestly about what that looks like. Tell me if that makes sense. I would say have personal revelation, pray to our heavenly father and ask and seek knowledge. The lord reveals things to each of us. We dont need a prophet. Jesus christ is our kord and savior. He is our prophet. There is no need for one to show us the way. The scriptures have it all in there. Read it and seek for yourself. We are not dependent on prophets.

I respect where you're coming from but in these last days as winds are shifting from one direction to another at any given moment.... I'm so grateful to have a prophet😇🙏. I honestly believe having a prophet to guide us through such challenges is a gift from God and proves he loves his children and wants us to have everything we need to get us back home to live with him😊😊.

@StompMom5 that response I can't argue. If anyone finds it necessary to follow someone else and not your own personal revelation, then that settles it. Well said. I must add. Thank you

Amos 3:7 The Lord will do nothing without revealing His secrets through His prophets. And the scriptures are not totally understandable without inspiration from the Holy Spirit. If just studying the scriptures alone reveals all, why are there so many thousands of churches preaching different teachings from the scriptures?

God has had a pattern of prophets from the beginning. Moses, Abraham , and many more. God calls prophets for each time because we need his continuous guidance. He is the same yesterday today and forever.

@@jake8882 This statement displays a logical fallacy. It is not a binary choice, to follow a prophet OR your personally received inspiration. You can do both. Many of us do. We honor the living prophets and apostles who bear witness of Jesus Christ, not just the dead ones called of God who wrote parts of the Bible.
