Guan Yin Story | Longevity Guan Yin | An Ugly Woman's Destiny | 延命觀音 妙淨法師

How to change our destiny depends on our own actions. This is a story between an ugly girl and an old man. What modifies the destiny? The term “Longevity” does not only mean the prolongation of life, but the generation of new meaning of life. To understand the true meaning of the Guan Yin's teaching is a path of self-realization within. This sharing is given by Ven. Abbess Master Miao Jing 延命觀音 妙淨法師
This is the great power of Longevity Guan Yin. Inside their heart, Longevity Guan Yin must be thinking that giving life is equivalent to giving suffering and death. Therefore, their real worry is how to relieve the suffering and death of all living beings.
That is why the Longevity Guan Yin has a worrying expression for the happiness of all beings. Because sufferings with happiness is the coin with two sides. Therefore, we must learn Great Compassion and the compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and turn the spirit of eliminating suffering and bringing happiness into practical actions, like Mr. Yen did in the story.
『延命觀音』為三十三觀音相之一。法華經卷七普門品所載：『咒詛諸毒藥，所欲害身者，念彼觀音力，還著於本人』之觀音化身。以除咒詛、毒藥之害，故有延命觀音之稱。
『延命』一詞並非只有長生、延長生命的意思。給予『生』就等於給予『苦與死』，既然如此，就應該為解除眾生之苦，而非延長生命，深入了解苦與死的本質。所以延命觀音才會生起眾生喜樂而同時為眾生憂愁的表情。所以我們要學習觀音菩薩大慈大悲為利益眾生拔苦與樂的精神，並將之化為實際行動。
