It's rare nowadays because of demand and because of the expertise required. Things are mass produced now and those craftsman are rare. It makes maintaining a house such as this so expensive because the parts are special made as they are no longer produced. If they are it is a very niche market. This house is stunning and I would love to live in a such a place. Maybe I would update the garden as well (avid gardener here). However, I have a beautiful garden I wouldn't like to part with where I live so...XD leave it for someone else.

@@Rinsuki it’s the cost, and the fact that the masses don’t have access to the good lumber required, either. In fact, that kind of wood needs to be purchased salvaged, usually and can be difficult to find. Remodelers in the 1920s, 30s and 40s salvaged building materials, but more current remodelers did not. So many old homes are still being torn down. It’s the cost to save it vs the demand and willingness to invest the only non renewable resource-time- and sometimes ignorance plays a part.

In summer, Open windows and flip on the big fan. I never ever remember being hot at night. Having said that, it is lovely and cool, if a little damp, in the summer, and we often make it into mid-July before having to turn the AC on just in the afternoon.

I have seen library type shelving in in several Victorian and Edwardian dining rooms. They were original to the house. People in those days had complete and separate sets of china for EVERY occasion. They even had different sets of china for each meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. These could range from every-day, casual, business, semi-formal, formal and even very rare occasion formal and any or all combinations of these. So, it was common for homeowners to display all of their sets of china all in one place. Thus, all of the shelving in the dining room. It was like a passive yet conspicuous demonstration of their china bragging rights.

I own a Victorian, and it baffles everyone's minds that max we could get 130k for it, (I mean max, on a good day); when it's replace value (insurance estimate) is 2.5 -3.5 million.

Wow! That price is truly amazing. I was totally expecting her to say:”1.3 million dollars”.
A millionaires home for sure. How many bedrooms is it again? I would have so much fun filling those bedrooms with as many foster/adopted kids as I could.

WHAT. THE. FAAAAAAARK!!!! $179000 I'm in shock. You couldn't even buy a one bedroom unit for that here in South Australia. Gorgeous home. The only thing that I would do is strip all the painted timber, undo the kitchen, I love period kitchens and the bathroom needs to also be undone. Thank you for taking us through. New sub xx

That is my dream home for sure. I love the way it has been restored. I don't think I could handle the politics in Arkansas however. I don't think I'd have many friends given that I am progressive.
I love what you and your husband are doing. I wish there were more people like you. God bless.🥰

You could always try a little tolerance and an open-mind! How awful to be incapable of being friends with people who aren't exactly like you. That must be very dull.
