Pectoralis Major Tear
The pectoralis major insertion is just lateral to the long head of the biceps tendon. The pectoralis major insertion is just lateral to the long head of the biceps tendon. Insertion of the tendons in the proximal part of the humerus: medial to the long head of the biceps is the latissimus dorsi tendon insertion and medial to the latissimus dorsi is the teres major muscle insertion. The subscapularis tendon inserts superiorly on the lesser tuberosity, medial to the biceps tendon. Pectoralis major tear usually occurs in young, male weight lifters during bench pressing from eccentric contraction or lengthening of the muscle. Usually there is pain around the shoulder area, and the patient will feel a “pop” in the shoulder area while performing the bench press. There will be discoloration and burning over the pectoralis into the axilla. There will be swelling, ecchymosis and a palpable defect. The patient will have loss of contour of the axillary fold. MRI will confirm the diagnosis, will localize the site of the tear, and will also differentiate between partial and complete tear. Tendon avulsion is the most common type of injury to the pectoralis major muscle, and the tear is usually a complete tear. Hemorrhage and edema at the level of the proximal humeral shaft indicates a pectoralis major tendon rupture. To treat, reinsert the involved tendon into the humeral shaft, lateral to the biceps tuberosity. Chronic tears will need tendon graft, which is a more complicated surgery. The tendon is usually retracted, and the outcome is not as good as in case of acute repair.
Amazing work doctor Nabil
Thank you. Very informative.

I believe I take toriel major about 6 or 7 months ago and neglected it.. to my detriment. Is surgery a possible paths action recovery or is it probably too late.

My surgery was a year and a half after the complete tear. No donor tissue needed either. So maybe not too late for you

What if you avoid surgery ?
I had this injury two months ago and I didn't have an operation. Can I be cured without an operation and go back to the exercise? Thanks
@Elvir Cehajic I torn my pec 4 months ago. Just had surgery a week ago... doctor said ideally you wanna have surgery done before 3 months after injury, max 6 months....

I never felt any pop or got any discoloration but the corner of my chest/shoulder area hurts after intense chest lifts, and that pec(right) is a little smaller and shaped differently. Could it be a partial tear?
The corner of your chest/shoulder area can hurt if you’re using front delts while chest exercising. Try arching a little more(and “tuck” in your back) to engage the chest more and less shoulder.
Similar situation here any updates?
What happens if you wait too long to get surgery?
I must know!!
Unfortunately this very thing happened to me while benching 5 days ago. MRI shows complete rupture. Pain is subsiding but dreading surgery and recovery.
How did it go?
@@lorenjones2733 Thanks for asking. The surgery itself was a success. The recovery is very very tough. I don’t usually take pain meds but had to take a ton. It’s been 11 months now and I’m still recovering. Partly because of covid and not going to the gym or PT. But I know I had to get it done and glad I did.
@Elvir Cehajic well the longer you wait the less success the surgery will be. I had my surgery within 3 weeks of the injury. My surgery was a success.

Question. I have pain (not severe) & swelling on the very left side of my chest & shoulder pain that goes to my chest & bicep at times, also popping in the shoulder at times. But the pain comes & goes. Is this how it was for you?
Ripped mine lifting 325 smh. Doesn't hurt that much it just sucks the amount of time you have to take off🥺
I had pain in right side of chest just behind the heart is that same issue ???

@@asuszenfone1550 dude you've replied with the same thing over and over. What Is wrong with you bot?
I did my mine doing pull ups, but first actually started feeling the slight pain while doing decline bench... It finally popped while I was doing pull-ups... This happened yesterday haven't went to the doctor yet but I'm pretty sure I tore it I felt the rupture when I was pulling up.
Did it heal yet? I felt a pain doing bench press yesterday and i could barely sleep the pain dont stop while im laying
@@monsieurpatate1573 I went to a doctor at a patient first facility, it's not torn, which I agree with, he said I tweaked it...basically told me to do what I already was doing that was icing it and if it's not better in 2 weeks he was saying something about physical therapy. Well it's been 2 weeks,,when I touch it it doesn't hurt like it used to, but when I make certain movements it still is painful... like yesterday I tried to swim and it hurts, bad, so this is more than a tweak, probably a sprain at the very least or partial tear at the most... I think I'm going to have to get an MRI
@@jimmynickles804 dam i wish you the best i put ice on it for the moment hopefully that helps my problem i really dont wanna go to the doctor if possible
@@monsieurpatate1573 I was the same way, I didn't want to go to the doctor either but it was hurting so bad and I know I couldn't work out with it. The bad thing is I had just got back into the rhythm after taking two years off... But yeah go get it checked out reply back and let me know what happened. I wish you the best..
@@jimmynickles804 what was your outcome? I just did this benching. I felt a tear and the weight was light enough I was able to just roll it off me. Did you end up having surgery? Have you been able to get back to the gym?

Doctor, my case is already more than 2 month old now, am I already late ??????
I just had mine operated on 7 months after I tore mine. Am just recovering now. Did you get yours treated yet? If so, how did it go?
@@greggusan Hi, how was that recover? Do you hace pain in your shoulder? Do you hace full ROM? and What about strength? I had tear in both sides two months ago and importante thinking on surgery, but would be in two More months.
@Elvir Cehajic do it as fast as you can, make sure the doctor is an expert, the full recovery will take around 6 months, also ask the doctor not to give you a scar , I got a big one 😕, good luck
@@greggusan DId it make things worse that you waited to get surgery until later?
