@@gamemuch4936 Happened to me yesterday right after stretching too hard before getting out of bed. I felt sore under my armpit are then started feeling random sharp throbs under my chest. The anxiety comes because we don't expect pain to come sporadicallyl from an area right over our heart. You feel helpless and think heart problem. It will go away, just don't overexert. Massage the area and breath slowly from your chest, through your nose and not your mouth. The random pain stopped when my underarm area felt better so it can't be a coincidence. If it comes back then I'll be seeing a doctor just to be on the safe side.

Hey there! Great video, I just subscribed! I have injured myself slightly while deadlifting a few weeks ago, and I think it's a minor pec strain. it's located in the top outer part of my chest (left side) and although there is no pain, the pain comes back if I deadlift (basically the heavy weight that keep tensions down my arms and therefore pulling the chest) but the funny thing is that it does hurt nor it's uncomfortable while bench pressing or cable flyes. Why do you think this is or what do you think it could be if not pec strain? would appreciate your help.

I have been doing the stronglifts 5x5 program for two months now. The other day, during the bench press workout, my right chest just sort of crumpled while doing my second set (thank heavens for the cage!). The weird thing is that I don't see any bruising on my chest, but I do see a dark bruise on my right bicep. There's no pain whatsoever on my bicep or anywhere on my arm.

GREAT video! i was using the row machine on sunday evening and a bunch of other arm lifting exercises, thursday i noticed i had a pain in that EXACT spot. i was lifting pretty hard and it comes and goes . its about two inches over from where my arm connects to my torso and about a half inch- 1 inch down, my right side doesnt really hurt unless i make a muscle then it hurts a little. i was worried it was something to do with my heart! ( i dont have any chest pain in my lower chest, just up in this one spot) i had a physical last month and BP and sugar was good , so im assuming thats not it. any thoughts guys ? is there any for sure way to tell if its a muscle or not? if i take my left arm (the one arm with the issue) and life it up and rest it on my stomach and put my left hand on my right shoulder, the pain goes away, but when i put it down at my side , thats when it hurts, if that helps. thanks!

I strained my Pec major on the second set of bench press a few days ago. I can feel it slightly in the sternal head of the pec as well as at the insertion point on the humerus. Its almost like a straight line across. The pain is not unbearable but I am afraid of potentially rupturing it at the insertion site because of where the pain is located. I have a fairly physical job where I lift 50 pounds many times throughout the day and nothing that I have done at work has caused me any discomfort. My left pec major tore in 2001. I shoved a large guy hard against a truck. I heard crushed cereal at least twice, then walked away. The tearing didn't hurt yet. Within 20 minutes, I couldn't raise my arm without pain. I went home and carefully removed my shirt and manually lifted my arm. I saw a purple clot the size of a silver dollar. I applied ice and rest. A few days later, it drained. My chest turned purple, brown, green in some areas and it drained down my left arm. It was a difficult transition, having to reduce my weights in half. 3 years later, I got an MRI to see what happened and if there was anything that could be done. My pec major was torn straight the belly. I still have the sternal and clavicular heads. That left front deltoid grows a lot more than my right, to help compensate for the loss. For the last year or so, I used Painless pumps to help fill in the depression and it does a good job. I have to make sure I pull back and there is no blood. I have to refill my oil implant every 2-3 weeks. I did notice there was less pull on the left front delt.
11 months ago, I tore my triceps longhead. Again, I heard that crushed cereal sound. I may have close to 50% strength in the back of my arm. I don't know if it will come back or not, but I will continue my therapy. Some tears heal all the way and some don't. I tore my left triceps after my chest injury and it came back. I had a .45 bullet pass through my right triceps and it came back. I tore both quads and they returned. It all depends on how much. If it's less than 25%, you'll probably get most or all strength back with time and work. If you try to work too heavy, you risk tearing something else. There will be exercises you use to do but can't anyone. Have to event new ones that don't hurt.
As for my chest, I was hoping my tendon came off the bone and it could be reattached, but that didn't happen. A good orthopedic will tell you you can't sew muscle to itself there. A sneeze could pull the stitches loose. Like the guy stated in the video above, where it tears, scarred tissue will form and attach to either side, but it breaks. Mine broke when I was doing decline dumbbell chest press, then my left triceps made that awful crushed cereal sound. I've never had an injury from the gym that I didn't fully recover from. The bad ones seem to happen outside.
I have have been doing this tissue rub. I watched this video a while back after my arm injury. My dead tissue is near my elbow. It has reduced since. I just practiced this on my chest, an old injury, where the tissue draws towards the sternum and it seems to help it relax, not pull as much.
I don't know if this was relevant, but both my left chest and right triceps use to be my dominate muscle groups.

Hey guys, thanks for the great video! I got a chest strain about 5 months ago and it's only gone down in pain by around 15% since then, even though I've stopped ALL upper body training.. I think it's because my job requires me to write constantly which is pretty painful. Should it really take this long? I'm kind of worried it could require surgery of sorts.. Massaging like this seems to help but not significantly (and I've been doing it for weeks!)

Thank you for this video. It was really helpful. I'm 22 years old. About 4 months ago, while practising handstands I damaged this muscle. Up to now, I still feel some slight pain and discomfort close to my armpit, and stretching to the front of my shoulder. The injury never got a chance to heal because I am enrolled in dance school and was always using my arm...I would ice my shoulder quite regularly though. Now that school is out, I really want to get over this injury once and for all. I'm definitely going to do the massage and stretch every day. But do you recommend that I totally rest? I usually work out on my own (jump-rope for cardio and self weights like pull ups, squats etc) and I don't want to lose my fitness level, but at the same time if it's necessary to heal my shoulder I will do it. Or can I continue working out and just massage?

Over the past couple of weeks there's been discomfort near the end of my right pec leading towards my armpit. It's still there and not really going away after not working out my chest the last two or three upper body workouts. I've benched 340 a little over a month ago, and since the discomfort started, I still did 315 for a few reps and 225 for I think 14 reps. The point being is, I still have full function but I very much feel discomfort and can tell I should stop working out my chest.
I would think this would be a light strain. I'm getting it checked out on Thursday. Because I am able to hit my normal weight, would you say doing these massages and exercises would suffice if I don't target my chest for the next few weeks?

I guess you figured it out by now that you weren't giving it enough time to heal. When I was 20, I strained my shoulder, couldn't do anything in upper body without pain. Well, I went to a place for 3 months that didn't have a gym. I had to invent exercises with construction stones pillowcases, hand grippers, and cable wire. I didn't know it was flat bench press that gave me the injury and prevented me from getting better until I returned home. I use to bounce a little off my chest. After 3 months, I was healed and I redid all my chest exercises and concentrated on perfect form. I wasn't concerned with the weight I could use, I just wanted to grow. Of course, we're able to use more weight when we grow. You rarely see any pro or good bodybuilders do flat bench. They grow the most with incline and dumbbells.

Very informative. About 5 Months ago I "strained" , "pulled" or outright -tore- the muscle fibers near my Clavicle(sternocostal?). I initially had a Dip in that area of the chest. I went and seen my primary care Doctor and they told me I probably strained the fibers and prescribed muscle relaxers. The initial onset of an extreme "choking" feeling on the same right side has receded slightly, but has not gone. It feels "tight" , Thus the feeling of being "Strangled". And when at rest (Sleeping) the pain subsides.
Will this ever Heal? Will the devit point fill itself in, at least some what? Do I do more harm in stretching/working the area? Should I cease upper body workouts completely? I go VERY light as it is(15-20lb). On top of that I now have other muscular problems, mainly in the left front side of my Ribs. As if the cartilage is being "pulled" apart.

Great video guys, thank you. I had a tear or some sort of a painful sprain in my left pec (same are you massage in the video) about 9 months ago. It healed in about 6-8 weeks and I was able to slowly go back to working out pretty well. Then around 4 weeks ago the exact same injury recurred, but what I found surprising was that the onset was very slow this time and didn't seem directly related to any workout I did. The pain slowly gained pace. At first it was just a dull discomforting pain that I couldn't localise at all (to the extent that I thought I was just getting paranoid). Now I can easily touch a pretty sore area towards the side of the chest below the armpit. I am massaging as the video but I am noticing the pain getting more pronounced and shifting from dull to stabby. Could it be that I am making it worse? And why is it that although it is no where near as bad as last time in terms of pain, it is taking such a long time to heal. I am not doing ANY upper body work at all.

I have the exact same symptoms. Pulled my muscle between the chest and lower right armpit during a push-up challenge. No chest workout for 10 days, then slowly getting back. Took 10-12 weeks until I felt fully healed.
Today I did push and pull exercises and I pulled the muscle again. The onset was the same as yours - started of dull, almost not noticing. But it got more and more intense during push-ups and pull-ups. Also, this time the pain is located somewhat higher. Not where the former injury arose which was 5 cm lower where the chest muscle connects to the ribs.
I'm so sad because i felt just like I was healed up and now the same thing starts again.
Regarding the first injury, I had an ultrasound and another check with my gynocologist. They didn't see either a muscle injury nor something else (lymph node, inflammtion, lumps, etc.).
