Africa’s most sociable cat is also its largest. The lion, enormously powerful and aggressive, dominates the lives of most living things in the wild. Its strength lies not only in its impressive muscular presence but also in the family group or pride, the size of which varies from five to 12 members. The lionesses form the heart of the pride and make good mothers, nurturing and protecting their cubs in a world where sentiment has little place.
