- Here's my design of a Mobile Flip Top Tool Stand for my Planer/Sander. The tools shown in this design are the DeWalt DW735 Planer and the Rigid EB4424 Oscillating Belt Sander. T-bolts and knobs are from Rockler and everything else is available from your local big box store.

I think that is about the most simple flip-lock mechanism I've seen for this type of stand. Great job and a nicely done video.
Hi Jerad! Just wanted to thank you for a great set of plans! I finished mine tonight and love it. I’m in a garage so space is at a premium. Thanks again!
Jeff that's great to hear! I'm glad you like it. I've got the same space issue in my shop and that stand has been really useful.
Very cool. I'm excited to see what kind of things you make.
Very innovative, someday that would be nice for my own garage.
Thanks for sharing. Didn't care for the eye-bolt locking idea; Yours is great and what I am going to use.
Glad you can use it! The main key to making it work is the slots in the sides have to be exactly the right length to lock the table level. Good luck!
This looks absolutely great and I prefer the locking method to the eye-bolt type used on other flip-tops including mine. Definitely going to build one like yours!
Thanks! I wasn't a fan of the other designs either. Glad you like it!
I actually built one of the other designs and before finishing decided to replace the sander with a small Dewalt table saw. With a height of 13" I had to remove the drawer and lower the height of the stand. I wasn't happy with the fit and finish as well as too much side to side movement.
Three days after buying the saw they lowered the price on the one I really wanted which means I now have a saw that's 27 x 27 x 13. I bought your plan but will adapt it to the new reality of this saw (planer on the other side).
That's part of the fun... customize it to your needs!
I made one of these using the plans that are for sale. Very happy with it
Thanks that's great to hear! I hope it serves you well.
I like this design. I am working on laying out a bench top drill press - band saw flipper but waiting to buy the band saw first. If I go this route I may buy the plans anyway just to support even if I need to edit the dimensions. Nice work!
Thanks! The plans should be adaptable depending on the height of your tools. The important dimensions are the slot length and the block size.
Great design! just got myself a planer and looking for some stand options. Came across a few and find your design the best. I much prefer your locking mechanism as it allows for no play. Please add me to your plans list!
Thanks for your interest! Plans are almost complete and i will let you know when they are ready.
Nice Job !! I have been considering such an item for over a year now. The problem, as you pointed out, is locking the top in place. The reason I have hesitated, is the idea of a sliding bolt holding the top in place, as others have recommended. Your idea locks in the top in 4 positions...Wonderful job.
Thanks! I'm working on some plans for this design right now and I will be sure to let everyone know when they are finished.

@theeveningkwoodworker This is excellent. Sweet idea! Can't wait to see more! You've got a subscriber in me
Okay all, it appears that there is some interest in getting plans for this so I will make some and let you know when they are available. Thanks for your interest!
How are the plans coming?
BIG NEWS! Plans for this are now available at eveningwoodworker.com! Let me know if you have any trouble with the downloads.

You are 100 percent right, this was cringy, but also you manage to make me go look at your old videos. so good job. Also nice shop layout from future videos., also, im a bit drunk. also also, this video feel like you were punished to make a video a bout what you have been up to by Uncle Phil which is all good an all. Anyways, proud of you and how far you have come, DJ Jazzy jaz./ Me
Haha yep this one is hard for me to watch now. But that just gave me more room for improvement!
Thanks
I have seen many builds like this & locking mechanisms, but yours is definitely one of the best! Nice work, great design.............. Steve
Thanks Steve!
Really nice simple design. Did you have the drawer on a slidier or just have it in a hole?
It's just a box sliding along waxed runners on the bottom on either side that are about 1/8"tall. No drawer slides
Your method of locking the top in place meets or exceeds every requirement out there! Very simple to operate, very simple to build and install, very solid and didn't take $900 million worth of parts To build. Well done sir I salute you
+Duncan Robertson Thanks! I went through a few different design iterations before having my eureka moment on this design.
Hi. I'm almost finished building out the flip-top stand using your plans. Can you tell me how you dealt with the odd length of the power tool hold-down hex bolts? I have the same sander and a similar planer. The bolts are either too long or too short to keep the underside nuts flush in the counterbore using standard bolt sizes. Did you grind down longer bolts or did you use a different method? Thanks.
Yes you may have to trim the bolts. Use the longer ones and then make them a custom length with an angle grinder or hack saw.
I just built a similar stand but I dont have the rigid sander yet. How muck clearance do you need for it when it is on the bottom?? Thanks
Mine has about 20 inches of clearance
Great video!!!! but how did you know what hight to set your stops that hold the top level thank you for your GREAT INFORMATION Bob
Thanks! To set the stop height I just measured the location of the top in the level position and then cut the blocks to that position. If you cut them too short or too long though you can always cut a new block and drill a hole. That way you have some adjustability.
@@EveningWoodworker How did you work out how low they had to drop to clear the spinning top?
@@Belg1970 You just have to figure out the distance from the center of your pivot to edge of the rotating table. Then you can do a bit of trigonometry to figure out what the clearance would be when it is rotating. You can also just do a trial and error using the block of wood before cutting the slots. I also do have the plans for this up on my website if you would like the dimensions I used.
@@EveningWoodworker Trigonometry/NOT, the trial and error method it is. Can't really use your plan as my tools are completely different sizes.
@@EveningWoodworker Thank for the response though!!
May I ask should I buy Dewalt 735x or Ridgid Planner if my another side is Ridgid Belt Sander ?? Should I buy Wen or Ridgid spindle Belt Sander??
My experience is with the ridgid sander and dewalt planer. Both are great and crucial in my shop. The ridgid planer I'm sure is pretty good too but never used it. Not sure about the Wen.
Great idea, do you have plans? I would like some.

Evening. Like the video, brilliant design. I have bought the plans but have no cutting plan with them. Can you help?
The cutting plan should be on the first page of the drawings. It shows how to cut the plywood and what sizes you need for the other solid boards. Let me know if that answers your question or you can email me directly.
Thanks all, I will try to not disappoint!
Add me to your plans list. Great design. I haven't figured out SketchUp yet, but if you can convert those to PDF that would be great and much appreciated.
Now available at www.eveningwoodworker.com/plans and you should be able to do it using the drawings and build sequence provided without the model. Let me know if there are any dimensions I left out.
Where do you buy those 4 locking mechanisms
They are just 1/4"-20 T- bolts and knobs from Rockler.
Uncle Mike wants plans. :-)

Any update on the plans ready time ? Will they be listed on a website or given in a video ? Bought my plywood today and anxiously waiting. Great flip top stand. Thanks.
I have completed the plans and I'm having one of my friends review them to check for any errors. They should be ready sometime next week and I will provide a link to the website where you can get them. Thanks for your interest!

Do you have any SketchUp plans for this? I would pay for them!

NIce job - bummer you are charging for plans...
Thanks! Yeah I know it would be nice to be able to put the plans up for free but it takes me at least 10 hours to reverse engineer my own designs and make drawings for everything.
