I reinvented the flip cart with a clever new design so that it's not only a space-saving mobile cart, but it's also easier to use than any other design I've seen! The surface is locked and completely stable with just a single latch and there's integrated power so you no longer have to mess with power cords for your tools! Now you can switch between tools in a matter of seconds and not have your work flow interrupted while you search for an outlet to plug in your machine. A removable front face-plate allows for quick and easy access to the integrated power strip, and a handy storage drawer is below that can hold all your tool accessories. This is truly the best piece of shop furniture I have in my workshop!
If you'd like to build this for yourself, the plans are available on my website and can be found at www.FishersShopOnline.com/plans
FAQ:
Q. I'd like to know how big of a tool I could mount on the cart, so what's the dimensions of the opening?
A. The dimensions of the cart's opening (above the shelf to the upside down surface) = W: 24”, D: 20", H: 19" The plans can easily be altered to accept wider or taller tools.
Q. Aren't you worried that the sides my splay out and drop the flip surface?
A. Not really. If you use quality plywood, it will be quite rigid. But if you're concerned about that, you can always leave your pivot pipe a bit longer, have your black iron pipe threaded on the ends, and screw on some end caps that would prohibit the sides from moving out.
Q. What's the weight this cart will hold?
A. My disc sander is roughly 85lbs and my spindle sander is around 35lbs. I used rather cheap sanded plywood and there's no indication that I'm anywhere near a weight problem. If you use higher quality plywood, you'd be able to load it up even more.
Out of the 2,873 different videos on CZcams for flip top tool carts, yours is the only only one that:
1. Has integrated power that remains connected
2. Is overflowing with absolutely hysterical commentary.
Your videos, this one in particular, has humorous comments so often that I have learned that I cannot consume any beverage while watching your videos. No matter how many times I have seen them, there are some comments that still make me laugh out loud. The neighbors dog house being dismantled for the plywood, awesome... Dude, you have such a twistedly great sense of humor. And that is written in the greatest of admiration....
Like what you do very much. Thanks 😊
Thank you very much, Peter! Haha! Glad you liked it and that you didn't choke on your drink. :) Thanks for watching, sir!
@@FishersShop I second Peter's comment... This second Peter wholeheartedly agrees. This video earned a new subscriber today. As I am rebuilding a home shop now, for the first time in maybe 10 years, inspiration and clever engineering like this is what I need most.
+1 to this. Loved it so much I bought the plans. :-)
Yup, the first Pete said it perfect.
Love the videos and love your work.
I also agree with the comments of the 2 Peter guys and with the others. I also is the only flip cart that I have seen (though admittedly my search has not been ALL inclusive) that has a positive stop for the final position. Very needed and convenient detail.
"While my neighbors were out of town I took the liberty of dismantling their doghouse".....Subscribed.
Dog is not gonna be happy. Hope it's a forgiving dog and won't bite him next time he goes/is invited over for a BBQ
me too. LOL
Me thrice!
😂”Are you kidding me?! I’m so stupid.” I’ve said that at least 1,000 times in my own shop.
Love the out takes. I’d hate to think I’m the only one that makes stoopid mistakes.
I came because of the title. I stayed because of the editing. I subscribed because of the outtakes. Good job!
So far, yours is the only woodworking channel on CZcams where I *cannot look away for a second*, because I'll miss some vital & helpful piece of info that will make my life easier.
I'm less of a woodworker & more of a "salvage artist." That means I use all kinds of discarded materials to create furniture & home decor. This would save a crap-ton of space in our shop & basement, & thank you for sharing it.
You bet! Glad you liked it
Love the Bob Ross subtle humor
i just built my cart and love it. Got rid of my plans so no one can use them again
Bob
“Just like all politicians it turned out a little crooked”
Pure
GENIUS
That was my favorite too!
I've seen a lot of flip carts and this is one of the better ones I've seen with built in power, cord management and positive stops. Plus you're entertaining as hell so you're fun to watch too. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Tim! :)
Tim Hinman I agree, the cord management is next level. All these carts seem to have the ridgid sander (which I have too!), which has all that loose stuff. Maybe we should invent some hold downs for the stuff! Also, I really like the positive stops, and I realized that if you purposely shift the weight to the back, it’ll hold itself on the stop, both ways. Great vid, I’m gonna check out your channel!
Again, a super video. Very well done!
I started this video thinking "oh great, another basic ass woodworking video. Why am I even watching this?" And 9 minutes in I'm liking this guy. He is funny.
Great video. I'm about to start on one with a buddy. I hope he bought your plans!
185 thumbs down? Trolls. They should go back to their parents' basements and leave the rest us in peace.
Dismantling your neighbor's dog house for wood? You have a new subscriber!
Appreciate the outtakes. Since I make a lot of mistakes I'm getting tired of videos where everything seems perfect all the time. A good dose of reality. Good video and project.
Keith Black , that is literally the reason I like watching CZcams. I want to see the mistakes. It lets me know what I'm in for when I try to do things. And it's more relatable.
+1 on the outtakes, love seeing people make mistakes the same way I do😆
Absolutely agree. You watch and think, christ I would have mucked that up....these guys are AMAZING....puts it back in to reality nicely.
Yes, I have similar "I'm such an idiot..." moments in my own projects. So glad that I'm not alone... :-)
I'm with you just got done making a mobile mitersaw station. Really really cool got it off Fishers shop plans . Though O I'll save money getting some plywood from work. Not really Paying attention I get it all cut to size and Realize it's 2 different colors not the end of the world but kinda makes you laugh but hey why not right
Comedy gold. You are just killing me.
gotta admit... funniest woodworker on CZcams!
This is the first flip cart I've seen that I actually like
Unnecessary Walnut would be a good band name for a group of woodworkers.
That's a brilliant idea! I'm clearly the lead singer as you've witnessed my stellar vocals in the outtakes.
@@FishersShop I'm down for that. I call drums!
Hopefully on a cajon you've built out of walnut
Or a band
I pray to god, that I get at least 25% of your skill
Love the outtakes!
I can't tell where you have more fun . . . in the shop with woodworking tools or in the office editing video!! LOVE your presentation style!!
Thank you very much!
Hilarious puns, great references, and um, good job finding a 4' x 8' panel on your neighbor's doghouse.
;)
Love it when a plan comes together - HS.
E
Great video! Love the humor mixed in. You have a new fan.
Well done!
"I slipped and accidentally bought..." Man, i can relate to that.
never helps when they build a Northern Tool and/or Harbor Freight store nearby.... 🤔
If I had a dollar for every time I slipped and bought a tool, I could ... well ... I dunno, slip and buy another? :D
If I had a nickel for every time I had a nickel, I'd have infinity nickels, and I'd build tools out of nickels.
Woodworking is inherently dangerous like that 🤗
Just like the my new slave.
"While my neighbors were at work I took the liberty of dismantling their doghouse and liberating all the plywood I'd need for this project".
That made me laugh, literally out loud. Thanks.
Really... What "neighbor" would use good quality plywood / no nail holes, on a dog house... Funny comment though.
Walnut is Never Unnecessary. And the outtakes does make me feel a little less stupid.
Nice design, love the commentary.
Thanks
Made your Flip Cart, but a little different. I only wanted to mount my Dewalt planner. The main modification were the initial cuts as the overall width would be 32". After getting a 3rd grader to help me with the math, I followed the plans and it came out great. I only needed the one tool so the flip side is a good work or outfeed table. I did put in a counter weight so it would be easier to pull up the 100lb planner. Keep the honest humor coming, Thanks Drew!
Obee: What did you use for a counter weight. I have the same planer and was planning to build this cart. I hadn't considered how to pull it back up. I'm not as young as I used to be. Thanks.
@@kenmulvihill1230 Ken, I'm not as young as I used to be either, so I used an old lead window counter weight. Approx 45#, these were used in windows back in the day(way back). This one was about 15"Lx3"Dx2"H with holes on each end tucked away in the space where the power was. Just one of those things lying around the shop that I had not used for years but could not throw away. Sorry, I know this doesn't help much but keep looking around you will find something that will work. UPDATE! As we all know "good enough" never is, I purchased a Rikon 6" Jointer that has a 30" table which mounted perfectly opposite the planner so I removed the counter weight. Good Woodworking to you and all. Obeejaun
Love your shtick. When connecting electrical wiring in Australia we say: Black to black. Green to green. Blue to bits ;-)
Love your humor.
I appreciate your honesty showing the mistakes at the end. At least I know I'm not the only one that makes mistakes. I enjoy your videos.
You know what was great ? No expensive Festools were used in the making of this video. Lots of laughs too & oh by the way you sound like Casey Cason .
RIght?!? "Just use this 600 dollar tool for this very specific step" - says *almost* every other youtube woodworker
Yes, I couldn't figure out where I heard your voice before-Jimmy is right- Casey Cason!
A little Ned Flanders in there at times, as well.
@@s4nari I mean just because some youtubers have those $600 tools doesn't mean it's the one and only way to do it. They're using what they have available. There's very few builds I've seen that couldn't be done with a much less expensive tool. Lots of the people making videos do woodworking for a living, so they've got the expensive tools because time is money for them and they're making many pieces. If you can take the extra 30 minutes then they can be done, and most videos suggest cheaper ways of doing the same thing.
It's Casey Kasem, but, yeah, he does sound a little bit like him.
that was some decent plywood in that doghouse
Thanks Drew. I started this build today. Will post PIC's when done.
Sounds good!
Your bloopers at the end made me feel human again. 😂😂😂
Never laughed as often watching a woodworking video. Huge fan, love your style.
Genius and hysterical 😂
I have to agree with the comments below, accept with the 71 thumbs down (why do they do that?).
You are the only builder who has another way to look and think over a Flip Cart.
Very well thought of.
Willy from Belgium.
Thanks Willy!
Your humor is as Twisted as the lumber at my local Big Box store! You have yourself a new subscriber, thanks for the great video.
Love the out takes, really helps people who often get discouraged by little mistakes
My dog is wet, cold and freezing. He believes you are to blame! Great project.
Hehehe. Thanks for watching
Why have I never come across your channel before ?
I'm on the you toobz all the time watching woodworking videos, and have never seen one of yours until this one. New subscriber for sure ! Nice work.
Welcome aboard!
I bought a second grinder and thought a flip top work stand would be ideal. I started to design my own and then thought somebody has already done this. I watched the Fisher shop video and was impressed with his ideas and purchased the plans for five dollars. When I downloaded the plans I was expecting an exploded view of the workstand and a cut list. The detailed explanation that was included with the plans was outstanding so much more than I expected. If Fisher shop has any more plans that I’m interested in I will certainly buy them in a heartbeat.
You are a freaking genius. I am so glad I waited until now before doing my flip table. I would have hated myself and the said table had I done it with the other guys plan. Thank you.
Not only do you have great ideas, you do beautiful work too.
Nice, very nice, informative video.
Jack in Missouri
Thanks, Jack!
Nice build. Just want to mention the reason you had that fail on the table saw was because you do not have a splitter in place. That's one of the most dangerous moves one can do. Every 9 minutes someone is sent to the hospital in North America for a table saw injury. Most of those accidents were because a splitter was not in place! Cheers
"Once I pull the slack out of the line, I screw everything up..." NICE!
Love the video and the idea of integrated power. One suggestion I would make is to have the opening in the support a bit larger so that IF you have to change out a tool, you can get its cord inside without having to do any disassembly.
I love your commentary!!
Nice narration and a good sense of humor. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
love the bloopers.......and appreciate seeing how you handled and laid out the entire project. Thanks for sharing
I just bought the plans for this project. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much detail you put into them. Good job !!
Thanks
yes very impressive. worth every penny
Love it...and always enjoy some Frank Howarth stop motion tribute... 😉
One of the better flip top ideas
I've been meaning to build a flip cart but im so glad i waited! I've ordered your plans and now I cant wait to raid some of the dog houses around the neighborhood very soon!
Haha, awesome! Thanks for your support! Have fun building! :)
Great design. I started laughing at the dog house comment and kept chuckling the rest of the way through. Many thanks!
Great build and the outtakes were awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is verbally abusive to myself in the shop.
I dig your humor! You'd think your poor neighbors would know not to leave their home unattended by now. Great video as always!
8:37 "I screw everything up." 🤣
I've got nothing left drew. I'm done.
Dude, you're so funny in a sarcastic dry humor kinda way that had me laughing out loud. Especially the part of the neighbors / dog house comment.
Very nice build! Again nice out takes.
I have bought a set of plan yesterday from your shop store. I am very pleased for all the details that will make my flip top cart a lot easier. Thanks a lot
Glad to hear it.
"I slipped and bought a sander" my wife doesn't believe me when that happens.
The best flip cart I have seen.
Outstanding design.
Thanks, Peter!
Good humor and great project!
The outtakes are why I liked and subscribed.
I am finally getting started making my garage a more efficient workshop and started seeing these flip tops and immediately questioned how I can put one together that won't require me to tie up the cords and plug them in individually. You did it perfectly and with the sort of sarcasm that make me think you the same kind of jackass that I am...LOL. Thanks for the awesome video....will definitely be exploring your channel more in the upcoming weeks!
Bought your plans. Built the cart and all went pretty well. I pretty much got the same results. I had fun and used up some remnants from a couple of other jobs. I like your narrations and high speed work.
Thank you for adding the bloopers since most other youtubers don't and it leaves us peons wondering if they ever make mistakes like we do when trying to follow their videos.
Glad you like them!
Love your humor
I love your acquisition of materials. Never realized the wood for all of my planned projects is already around me right now!
Drew you’re absolutely crushing these videos! You're a one stop shop, great ideas, quality craftsmanship, self deprecating humor, and entertaining. Keep it up! You're easily gonna start racking up subs!
Thanks, Michael! Let's hope and see!
I like the way you made the one way rotation cut outs
wicked sense of humor... :)
I like the “bloopers” at the end of the vid, these let us all laugh.
We all make mistakes.
O.B.T. Great flip cart design.
I’ve just recently discovered this channel and am in the process of watching ALL of your videos. Your commentary is hilarious. You make me laugh! And your projects are great too!
Clever build and hilarious!
Wow! You make this look so easy!! Before you all try this, know, it is difficult!
Just purchased your PDF. Quite complete and well worth the cost. Looking forward to the build for a drill press and band saw. I used Sketchup to reproduce your design and found that I can't use the drawer because the band saw is too tall. But since your design rotates just 180 degrees, it allows using stabilizing gussets instead.
I’m also thinking of building a flip cart for a band saw and and drill press and would be interested in your plans. Are they available?
I just love the your sense of humor, I now have to check out your website for the plans you offer. Keep up the great work, and replace the Dogs house😂😂
It’s because of your comedy and a well done video that I have subscribed. Keep up the good work =]
Look at you with your black and yellow Gripper!
I love the commentary. You have a new subscriber. The outtakes are gold
"This whole part, is gonna get cut cause nobody likes to watch Drew glue"
Favorite part! made me laugh
Hi from Australia I saw your video first time last night I like the way you demonstrate I really liked the sleds Ime gonna make them on the weekend thanks for showing your skills
The best flip cart on CZcams.
I slipped about four days go as well. I bought the Ridgid Oscillating Sander and the bigger Rikon Strip with 6" disc sander. It was awful. Truely awful. I love that your videos have one great happenstance joke. The buffalo birth on the Serengeti still makes me smile.
The iron pipe T-joint thing is genius. The entire wire path and the fancy 45 degree angles where the flip top connects are beautiful. I also really enjoyed watching you use the combo square. You looked like you were a master at using it for marking layout.
Haha, thanks!!
FINALLY! I've seen this video months ago and was looking for it. Saw tons of other ones but this is THE ONE I was looking for! Every other one was disappointing. That is what happens if you see the best one first! Thanks for the video!
next challenge - integrate the dust collection. :) Good job, lovin' the humor and the lack of Festool.
You are so funny and have a great show! You’re a natural.
Thanks, Stan
"If you already knew this then you can try doing it in a bath tub full of water." That's freaking awesome!!!!! I'm a definite subscriber now.
I really like your latching mechanism. I want to build a flip top insert to my shop bench to integrate my miter saw into the bench. It needs to flip out of the way to allow me to break down sheet products. I learned a lot watching this. thanks a million.
One of the very best on the idea I've seen! Thanks!
Haha, I had the same slip this weekend and now have disc sander! Hence my search for videos about flip-top carts. I really like yours, btw.
Where the heck were you a year ago when I built mine based off of a vastly inferior design? Nice going, Drew.
Love your videos BTW
Oooooh! That's why the neighbors were rebuilding the dog house in another video! lol
By far the smartest flip cart I've seen!
Thanks Kyle!
Love this plan and enjoy the humor.
Oh man, I love it. You are super entertaining with your narration. Plus that's a sweet design. Thanks for making a great video. Now I must watch all your stuff.
Honey grab the nachos and some soda, I'mma binge me some sweet wood working videos
