Continuing my journey of doodling I wanted to create a way of taking doodling projects with me when I travel, sometimes I can be away from home for weeks at a time and having something creative to do on my travels is important to me.
I needed a cover for my four travellers notebook style doodling books and decided to paint one of Dyan Reaveley's No Limits covers.

I LOVED this video! The colors, patterns, all of it. In the beginning I wanted to reach thru the screen and take all your notebooks lol! They are SO amazing Ceri! Using a straw was such a brilliant solution to keeping the elastic paint free. I have never seen those rubber extenders, what a smart idea! I can’t believe how well you matched your cover to your tags, well done!

Just loved this video, Ceri. Many thanks for your generous sharing of yourself alongside your art making. I am so helped by your comments on OCD for example and anxiety. I’ve had enough brushes with mental wobblies to know that creative pursuits are life giving, and yet when you mentioned Zen doodles and anxiousness it gave me pause for thought. There are some types of art and craft that I too stay somewhat clear of if I’ve got a bit too much going on. Enough said! Hello hello. I watched the second cover first. I can magnify the screen when using my iPad to watch. I adore what you’ve done with the paints. I’m learning to embrace the wonky and weird. I will be crafting with you tomorrow. I bought some canvas paper and I have some elastic and eyelets to make my own cover. Thank you for the inspiration. 💜

Love that you create your own cover art that is certain to inspire as you travel. You mentioned an economical way to create a leather or similar cover. One option is to check charity/thrift/up shops for leather clothing. I have collected quite a few leather garments that have yards and yards of leather for only a few dollars. Another option is garments from ‘ultrasuede’, which was one of the first successful faux suedes. It wears and doesn’t fray just as leather does. Home dec fabrics can also be found for little money and can wear very well. Fraying can be stopped with a product called Fray Check.

Ceri, here's a suggestion - you could get purses and backpacks at thrift stores and cut them into the size and shapes you want, inexpensive and you can actually find real leather from time to time.

Loved this! and have just recieved two covers and one insert...just to see what they looked like in real life! the blank ones were out of stock, but hopefully they will let me know when they are back in stock!! Loved watching this at least three tmes so far!!

I used Vintage Photo Distress refill ink for leather look Kraft Tex looks just like leather. Less expensive 😊

I have bought my own color elastics and used them. I have also used the very large colored elastic head bands as the closure. They match very well to you book colors.

Yes I have and it really pushed my anxiety to it’s limits however I’m looking at zentangling and I’m finding that more calming, possibly because of the structure and repetitive nature of the art.

Fran I'd say theres no specific video for the kissing technique it's just something you'll find in the majority of the gel printing videos I film.

Hi Ceri, I enjoy your videos. You're an inspiration. I don't know if you have a Dollar Tree Store where you are. I am in Canada. If you can find Vinyl, lightweight and easy to clean placemats They measure 12x18-in. They make wonderful journal covers. They come in various themes colours etc., some of them can look like faux leather. I hope this can help you. :)

Lovely cover and books! Tip for getting wipes out of the package. Put a rubber band/elastic around one end. It'll make pulling them out easier. Would love seeing another cover done.

I recently moved and bless my younger son he managed to put a hole in one of my large canvases. I'm thinking I could cut two pieces out and put a piece of felt in between the canvases and sew one of these covers.😁
I have taken thrift store art pieces on canvas in the past, cut them up and made covers out of them. It works well.
