Clean Up Paper to Delightfully Doodled Background

- It's been a while since I did a doodle video and the opportunity to do a background came up utilising a clean up paper from a previous video project.
I kept it simple and used one of my latest stencil designs as a foundation for my doodled lines, I'm happy with the results and hope you will be too.

What I appreciate about you the most is that you focus on techniques. Total teaching and no extra "personal chatter" that many UTubers do. I watch your channel and LEARN new tricks every time.
Wonderful Catherine, I do do chatter but in videos that are more relaxed and sharing.
What a difference the outline/doodling makes. I’m a lines and angles person. And I’ve learned a lot in this video. Love your art, explanation and visuals. As always, thank you for sharing and inspiring.
I am loving your doodling Ceri, please dont cut yourself short, you do very very well. If you cannot find the Posca markers you want, why not get some colored sharpies. I know that they re an alcohol marker, but i doodle with them all the time without problems. Sharpie makes a full ranger of colors from pastels to vibrant shades. And everything in between

Sharpies aren’t permanent…..they will fade after a while.
@@robingoff322 TU Robin for that information. My art is made solely for my enjoyment so the Sharpies not bing permanent doesnt bother me. I also usually use fixative or a varnish to seal my project at the end which helps preserve them in my opinion.

Hi Ceri. I live in Oslo,Norway and boy did we ever get a winter here. -10 is a normal winter here,but this time we got the big freeze from Siberia. It got down to -27 here and we got snow that will last us a few winters to come 😮 The wind wasn’t nice either. Holy moly it’s been a rough one. Thank you for another great video. I love them all. Even the ones where I’m screaming at my iPad “You’ve missed the middle again” Hehe. Have a great week ❤

Be aware they’re certainly not cheap so choose your colours wisely.

The pages looked great after you stamped them but took on a totally different look after you doodled around them! Love it. I think you do a great job. These were great. Thanks for sharing them with us. Be glad you aren't in Chicago this month. 20 and 30 degrees below zero with snow and wind has been nasty, lol. Happily, we are back to single digits above zero now. Yup Chicago can be rough in the winter I survived four of them when living there.

Interesting, I always thought POSCA Pens were acrylic markers that didn`t smear.

I believe you are right they are acrylic paint markers however I know if I brush medium onto a page with them on to seal it they reactive and smear.

I’ve got a book I play with patterns in, I hesitate to call it zentangle but it’s definitely in that style, I use this to explore shapes and give me confidence in drawing lines.
These pages are so beautiful. Have you considered designing paper for mass production? You are a natural at design and I feel a lot of us would love to have your designs in our stash. 😊
I have considered it however it’s all about finding a company I would trust as I’ve been ripped off in the past and trusted the wrong people.

Joanne I’m no expert but I don’t see why not, experiment a little on some scrap pieces you are willing to mess up, you may be surprised by the results.

You recommended two names for doodling , Darcy something and Darcy Gustenelli(?). I listened several times but not sure what you said. Would you mind sending me the names? Thank you. Just loved the sheet you finished. What are the brands of paints you use? Is the finish you recommended called Liquitex Basic Acrylic? It was very difficult to read the title. Is it sheer? Would hodge podge work as well? I appreciate all your recommendations. Thanks again.

Cindy, I’m sorry I wasn’t totally clear with the names it’s Darcy Sanders here is her channel youtube.com/@DarcysMixedMedia?si=gM81BF7xAWot0R0M and Gayle Agostinelli here is her channel. youtube.com/@gayleagostinelli_ct?si=FNToql_-FuPnmdxu I used several different brands of paints Amsterdam, Arteza, ArtDeco however this can be done with almost any paints. The markets were Posca paint pens. The medium was Liquitex Matt Gel Medium and yes you could use Mod Podge as an alternative but be aware if you brush medium directly over the Posca pen lines they can be reactivated and smear which is why I first srayed my piece with a fixative spray to seal the Posca marks. I hope that helps.

Have you tried Zen tangle ideas? Alsi great for neditation type jf art. Stædler Fineliners pens are perfect. Don't use these pens on cardboard or water colour paper which will destroy the nibs.
Thanks for the tip, I am zentangling as well but to learn variations of line and shape also to get my hand used to drawing lines.

I was given a very old dictionary, which I love, but it smells like mildew. thought you might be able to advise to get rid of the smell.
Cindy I’m not sure, maybe someone else could advise, my gut tells me something like baking soda might help but I don’t know how you’d apply it or if it might damage the pages. Maybe just leaving it open to the fresh air and turning to a new page every day….long process. Here in the UK we have scented draw liner paper which comes on a roll, maybe you could sandwich that between some of the pages to see if the scent impregnated the pages.
