    I sure many of us can relate so much to this, and take the inspiration from it. My 1st Camino was 4 hours of travelling to the airport and then a 2 hour flight. Straight off the other end and hit the trail. It's disorientating at first but survival mode soon kicks in.
    "It's so bad... but really beautiful too" - that's the Camino spirit!
    And not many people understand the "Is this the way you choose to take a vacation?"
    Hiking miles and miles each day, often in terrible weather; too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, every night a strange bed in a (somewhat) strange land. But it's one of the greatest challenges and you never know that feeling until you try. One thing is for sure: you will always remember it!
    Looking forward to your stories. Keep up the great work :)

    Hello, Nadine. I did this walk between Porto and Santiago in the fall of 2015 and it poured for the first few days. I saw almost no pilgrims and my feet blistered from being wet. How many days and km daily did it take to get to Santiago ?

    I wanted to do the pilgrimage next year in September with my 3 sons. I doubt through they will be into a 30 days walk. Will the Camino de Portugues be the shortest @nadinewalks?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před 7 měsíci

      From Porto the walk is about 11 or 12 days to Santiago. But there are lots of options! The Primitivo is also about 12 or 13 stages, and if you're looking for a shorter Camino, the Ingles is 5 or 6 stages (all of these end in Santiago). If you wanted to walk the Camino Frances but not all of it, you can always start in Leon, or Ponferrada, or Sarria (really, you can start anywhere on the route! Sarria is a popular place to start, it's about 5 or 6 days and covers the last 100km of the route so that you can still receive a compostela at the end). Good luck deciding and I hope you all have a wonderful time!

    Planning to walk this April Would you recommend coastal or central route now that you may have done both?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před rokem +1

      I've only walked the Coastal, so I can't speak to the Central... but the Coastal Portuguese in April was a great experience!

    what's the Covid situation there?what precautions, if any, did you take?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před 2 lety

      There are less restrictions than when I walked in Spain last summer- albergues (where I stayed) were operating at full capacity, and kitchens were also open and available to use. Masking seemed to be the biggest precaution taken; I wore my mask when I was in towns/cities, and always when entering an albergue. Some albergues seemed to be more "masked" than others.

    What kind of jacket and pants do you have?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před 2 lety

      I was wearing a Columbia rain jacket (for all other Camino's I've used one from Marmot that I really loved, but it eventually lost its waterproofing so I had to pick up a new one. This one is okay, does the job well enough but I preferred the one from Marmot (PreCip)). My pants are Marmot PreCip as well, and I really like them. Not exactly the most flattering look, but they mostly kept my legs dry!

    To speed up the drying of wet shoes try stuffing them with newspaper.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před 2 lety

      I do too! I looked all over for newspaper where I was staying, but there wasn't any. Luckily the shoes mostly dried out by the next morning!

    There is a reason you prefer the summer months for your Caminos. Hope you did not exceed your preferred pack weight with the added winter and rain clothes.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Před 2 lety

      Haha, it's true! But when it wasn't raining the temperature was so nice for walking. And I DID manage to keep my pack really light! This was a short Camino for me, so I didn't bring a guidebook this time (I do have a paper guide for the Portugués, but I opted to use an app on my phone); I left my journal at home, too. So I think the weight of a couple extra layers was balanced out by leaving out other items. I also carried less water on this Camino than I usually do, knowing that I would very often be passing through villages and towns. So I think that helped too- my pack felt really light this year! :)
