Thanks for the video, great to know this trick. One question - does the max capacity shown depend on the the temperature? I just tested mine and with 33k on the clock, the capacity is 17.5kWh, with an outside temp of 10 deg C (it was colder overnight). Disappointing, but not a huge surprise. I wonder - if I tested it again in warmer weather would it show more (or even if I preconditioned the battery?). Has anyone tested that?

Hi Mugger, may I ask what is the range of Your car now? Maybe can You compare with the range when it was a brand new? thx a lot in advance!!!
That's not a fixed amount. I woke early this morning and the car said 54 miles on battery. (It had been standing plugged in for a week in cold wet weather while we were on holiday) When I drove the car a long way, and recharged it twice - the warm battery said the range was over 70 miles. In the summer it was higher on a regular basis. BTW - I bought my i3 as a used car so I don't know the range when new. The other point to note is that yesterday the capacity was reported as 17.2kWh, and today after two CCS charges it was 17.7kWh.
In this menu you show in your video, is there a option to change the option of the gas tank to 2.4 gallon? Also change the Rex to run when you want it to? Or is this another hack?
+Samba65 The gas tank change is something you code with your laptop and a special cable. I don't know if there is a way other than hold mode to have the REx run without a depleted battery.
Does the max capacity figure shown in the video represent max useable? Or max state-of-charge? Also can anyone confirm that it's not affected by the amount of charge which is currently in the battery?
The figure represents the max usable, or the difference between 100% and 0% state-of-charge. It should not be affected substantially by the current charge.
It's not actually possible to get these figures, it's only guesstimate. You can charge, and know what capacity it took...but not possible to know actual max capacity.
I recall that it’s 30% loss, from new, so I’m well away from that. Interesting, though. I will check it every few months, as the car is in regular use, with solar PV trickle charging, keeping it above about 20%.
If it falls below 70% of original capacity, they'll fix it. But I suspect they only have to get it back over 70%. They don't promise to get it back to 'as-new'.
For the 94Ah model, the original max SoC is about 29.7 kWh. 33kWh is the theoretical gross capacity, but not the max SoC usable by the car. After about 10,000mi (16,000 km), my max SoC is 29.6 kWh, which should be average to good given the mileage.
@@norwegianzound but the car only had 18kwh usuable to the driver. I have never ever seen when new the 60Ah battery showing 22kwh on the screen. when new it reads : either 19kwh or 18kwh
Mine has 16.7. Today, at 75% capacity it was predicting a range of 46km in comfort mode with temp control at 22 degrees Really getting to dislike this car. The handling and comfort are awful. It's noisy above 40kph, Aircon is a joke. Tyres cost a fortune to replace @ 900 euros for 4! On a small hatchback!!!
sounds like you got a lemon? Why did you get the 60Ah battery version? If you purchased used, you can not expect to have the same range as if the car was new.. If you want performance you have to keep the car in Comfort Mode. Its not a sports car, its an economy car made of plastic. The tires only last for 12k miles.. Wind noise is because of the frameless windows. Cooling and heating works very well.
@@markusklemm4516 I'm not sure. I have the 2014 REx. I haven't heard from 2014 owners. I push the button for a good 20 seconds and nothing happens to the screen. Can you press the button while charging the vehicle or turned on?
@@marymadeleneperkins6790 The i3 in the video was a 2014 BEV, so the model year shouldn’t be an issue. We haven’t tried doing the check while charging.
@@markusklemm4516 thank you for that info. I have tried it while charging and while turned on, but nothing works. I'll try to figure out what's going on. I will also join FB i3 groups.

This is great to know, especially if you plan on buying an i3 from a dealer or second hand from someone
19.2 KWh 28K miles 2014 BEV thanks for the video
Very informative. Thank you!
Basically it's a measure of what charge has gone in not what the battery capacity is. See Toms quote below. Also you need to cell balance

You need an app for your phone called bimmercode and an OBD reader. There are lots of youtube videos on the subject.

ta not working for me base i3 2014 model
My car has 25 K miles and 16.2 kwh for the battery, is that bad ?
Mine showed 17.6 after 24k km. (I’m a little disappointed as I just purchased it...) Range is typically about 110km in Comfort mode.
peter gorton there's a warranty on the battery..but I don't know below what kw is it replaceable ?
