    Centre has stood up for Tamils? LOL. India refrained from voting against SL for atrocities against Tamils. 22 other countries voted for the Tamils and India didn't. However Tamils won in the conclusion during March thanks to the other 22 countries.

    • @sskk1617

      And pray please explain how voting for the resolution would have helped the Lankan Tamils? Sure, it would have made some Tamil political groups in India feel good. However, it would have caused the Sri Lankan government move closer to China even further reducing the Indian government's influence. And Lankan Tamils do depend on the Indian government's influence to keep the Sinhala chauvinist elements in Sri Lanka in some check. A vote against Sri Lanka would have left the Lankan Tamils more vulnerable.

    • @cibisudhana4133
      @cibisudhana4133 Před 3 lety +8

      @@sskk1617 So you say China can do anything it wants to in Sri Lanka if India voted against SL? Isn't what you are trying to say like blackmailing India by SL because Tamils are there?

    • @sskk1617
      @sskk1617 Před 3 lety +33

      @@cibisudhana4133 I never stated that China can do anything it wants in Sri Lanka - I stated that China's influence will increase and India's would decrease if India voted against Sri Lanka. I also requested you to explain how India's vote against Sri Lanka would help the Lankan Tamils - since you have not addressed this, I have to assume that you do not know how. My point is that if India had voted against Sri Lanka, it would have hurt the Lankan Tamils - since the Rajapakse government would have to sway more towards the Sinhala chauvinists rather than those in Sri Lanka who may want more moderation. The Rajapakses would find it necessary to do this to maintain their political support - else they will be accused by the chauvinists of being soft with India. If you want to term this 'blackmail' that is your choice. I can guarantee you that none of the 22 countries that voted for the resolution will lift as much as a little finger to do anything concrete to protect the Tamils - they will not send troops or money, and will continue business as usual with the Sri Lankan government. It is left to India to play this role, and by abstaining India has not further handicapped itself in Sri Lanka.

    • @cibisudhana4133
      @cibisudhana4133 Před 3 lety +6

      @@sskk1617 My point is simple. If you are boasting that you are protecting Tamils, you should be able to do anything. Take this case, had this be Pakistan, won't the Modi govt take some revenge like Surgical Strike or fight using Air Force. Regarding how voting would have helped Lankan Tamils, it would a morale booster for all the Tamils in SL and the SL govt will think twice before implementing anything against them.
      It's the minister's wish whether to vote in favour or against or refrain from voting, but if he didn't choose to vote in favour, he should not boasting that he spoke up for the Tamils, as simple as that. He could have also said "we are protecting Tamils by not voting in favour of them " which would have made the interviewer further question him. That's why he didn't say like that. It's all politics.

    • @sskk1617
      @sskk1617 Před 3 lety +11

      Your position is that the Lankan Tamils would be protected if India had voted for the resolution - I disagree. And I disagree with your contention that the Sri Lankan government would have been afraid and treated the Tamils better and not implemented anything against them. India has little leverage other than is using some economic tools unless India is ready for military intervention. Very few in India would support a military intervention. The last time India did intervene via the Rajiv Gandhi-Jayawardene agreement, Indian soldiers were killed by the LTTE and subsequently Rajiv Gandhi himself was murdered by the LTTE. So since the military option is out, India has very limited influence on Rajapakse - and would have lost even this by voting for the resolution.
