The Orlando Serrell case prompts me to question whether memory is potentially Infinite, and that our brain's ability to access to past memories could be infinitesimal with the right set of DNA keys. It seems memory & instinct from previous generations is embedded in genetic coding, with the strangest examples occurring in metamorphosis, with such as the life cycles of Monarch butterflies, dragonflies.
The idea of hypnotic regression to past lives tinkers with such concepts, & in this area of study there are confounding unexplainables. Perhaps SW could address this theme ?

So you mean to tell me that my brain is perfectly capable of comprehending incredibly complicated maths with little effort... it just doesn't want to. I've never hated my brain more.
Worse; it currently does all the complicated maths internally for things like hand-eye coordination and moving in 3d space, it just never rises above subconscious.
Our brains are fantastic computation engines, it's just that most of the power is already in use just perceiving and existing in reality without bumping into things or missing thrown balls.

I went the other way, lost all my math knowledge after a head injury. I was studying advanced maths, physics and chemistry when I had the accident and after it i couldn't for the life of me understand anything of it. So I had to completely change direction, much to my dismay. 30 years later I still think about it, my dream was to study astronomy.

similar situation here, I was a computer science genius (atleast acc to my teachers at my age) and i partly agree too, it just seemed to click easy for me. then I had dengue and post that, I had terrible memory loss. I work in a faang company today so all okay, but that's the issue, it's just okay. too many mental health problems now. I often wonder how life would be different today. it's very very heart breaking
That unfortunately is very common. I am a 2x brain cancer survivor and I used to be able to do complex math problems just by looking that them. Since having brain surgery which causes an acquired brain injury I need a calculator just for simple math. I have a lot of brain tumor friends and they also seem to have the same issue with math.

My 6 yr old nephew is autistic and has a savant skill called hyperlexia. He can read, write and count without ever being taught, he can also pick up other languages very easily. He taught himself Russian when he was 2 by watching CZcams videos of a Russian family. He often starts singing strange songs in a range of languages that he learns online, for about 6 months now he's been obsessed with Asian cultures and knows a lot of japanese, korean, mandaran and cantonese.
While he never had a brain injury (as far as we know) he does have autism, ADHD and was born with foetal alcohol syndrom to drug addict\ alcoholic parents. He spent the first few years of his life in a crack den (we didn't know he existed and had been no contact with his parents for years at this point.) When he was finally removed from his parents my parents got custody and we learned that his 'nonsensical babbling' was actually him speaking Russian after a Ukrainian neighbour heard him and translated the words to a song.
He is a very intelligent little boy but has a lot of issues due to his disabilities such as having no sense of danger and constantly trying to 'escape' so trying to keep him safe is a constant battle!
Aww, the poor thing is probably lonely not being able to chat with others in those different languages. Could you arrange to help him get online and speak with / practice speaking with people in different languages?
This is unbelievably cool, and what must be horribly frustrating. I'll admit though, I'm pretty jealous about his language ability.
That is a hell of a life story for someone so young.
I'm sorry to hear his journey started out a little rough, but that is an amazing skill! I wonder if watching all of the online polyglots (xiaomanyc, wouter corduwener, etc) will be of interest to him.
He watches some polyglots online and me and his other aunts have a lot of friends who speak other languages, (mainly Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Mandarin, Russian, Polish and Ukrainian) he also has a few Asian staff members at his school so he does get lots of practice with them.
We're trying to get him into a local Gaelic school so he can learn his native language. There's been a huge push in scotland in recent years to prevent the language dying out so there are a few Gaelic schools in our city but they are difficult to get into and don't have much support for kids with additional needs. He watches a lot of Gaelic shows and can speak it a little so I'd love to encourage that.
I've had my bell rung so many times, the genius probably got knocked in and out several times. Maybe I'll get lucky the next time!

Hospital reluctantly did chest xray on wife when she had bad asthma, after sending her home they rang to say she had enlarged heart.

My dad had a bad fall at work and was sent home with a cracked skull. The hospital called 7 hours later and told him to come back immediately and not go to sleep. The phone call woke him up.....

How did it take so long for someone to realise the sculptor could make a living as a sculptor? He can sculpt incredible lifelike and detailed animals in minutes and he was working as a janitor. I feel like he was surrounded by people who needed their heads knocked together. Animal sculptures are the most marketable sculptures there are as they are inoffensive and everyone loves animals. Even pre-internet he could have just walked into a gallery.

Listen, I already had a genius level IQ and then I surgery for a cancerous brain tumor in my right frontal lobe leaving me with an acquired brain injury. I had to have neuropsych testing because the damage in my right frontal lobe gave me frontal lobe syndrome. My IQ actually dropped about 30 points and I was just bawling. My neuropsychiatrist told me to just give it time and my brain wouldn’t even begin to heal until a year after surgery. I am tested every year and by the third my IQ had settled into its new normal which is 5 points lower than before. I never complain or cry about it anymore. That happened in 2005 and they gave me 2 years. Then in 2012 I had a recurrence but we didn’t do surgery again due to frontal lobe damage I had. I did 19 months of 4 different chemos instead and I finished in December of 2013. I’ve been tumor free since.
And yet when I twisted my ankle really bad playing volleyball, I didn't become an olympic runner.

Honestly, for most of them it would probably be a miracle, especially since many of them are severely autistic. But savants really are a gift to the world as they are, I wish they were given more attention.
That's called a normal brain injury.
Some children can grow out of their savant skills. My 6yr old nephew has a savant skill called hyperlexia, basically he can read, write, count and learn lanuages without needing to be taught how, he just knows how to do it instinctively. (he teaches himself languages by watcing foreign movies\ online videos with subtitles)
A lot of kids with this skill will outgrow it by the time they're around 5\6 and will often need to completely relearn how to do things that used to just come so easily to them.
Sort of a related story. Had an ambulance call for a self inflicted gun shot wound. Expected the guy to be dead. He wasn't though. He had a long history of severe depression and was kind of a ne'er do well with a drug habit and a bad relationship. He decided he was tired of it one day and decided to end his life. He had placed the gun into his mouth and shot mostly upwards. The bullet exited the top of his skull and when we arrived there were little pieces of brain around the exit in his hair. He was awake but not able to really make sense of what happened as he wasn't sure what was going on and how he had been shot.
Doctors at the hospital did what little they could do to help and he was in the hospital for a couple of weeks before being released with his life completely changed for the better. He was no longer depressed, had no desire for drugs and actually worked to repair the relationship he was in. When he was able he got a job, went back to school and became a successful person. The doctors said the bullet had destroyed that part of his brain which was causing problems and left him with minimal neurological issues, he couldn't remember the couple of weeks before he shot himself and had no idea why he would want to end his own life and he was prone to sinus infections as the gunshot had done significant damage due to the massive pressure of the expanding gases. Other than that he was just a regular guy afterwards. I would make no recommendation on trying to cure yourself in this fashion but it worked for him.

I've asked a few times across his channels. I'm just getting into audio production and the most important lesson I've learned is make sure every part sounds good on most speakers/headphones.

I want a point out that in the last story, his drug addiction could have been caused by his brain injury. People with ADHD often have up to 60% of their frontal lobe “asleep” without medication, according to an article I read… or a seminar I watched. It’s possible that his brain injury caused him to have some sort of issue his brain is driving him to “self medicate”. I think it would be interesting to see what a study on his brain would show. I wish we had more research on these types of things and less on bizarre unhelpful things.
My neighbor has ADHD and told me he was a gangmember as a teen.
Cocaine was very accessible to him so he basically self medicated with it, he told me it felt like his brain would slow down and he could actually feel a sense of calm when using!
Today he only uses weed and he is even trying to put that down too now.
But yea, people with especially ADHD have a much higher risk of drug use because they feel like self medicating to calm the mind, whereas other people will feel the rush effect.
I have autism, and i was given antipsychotic medicine for a time, as i was misdiagnosed, but the new medicine they gave that "worked so well and had almoat no side effects" gave me a TON of side effects! Its main thing was it wouldnt make you tired - i almost couldn't move or speak on it it felt horrible..
They tried an old medicine most people got tired from and it had a bunch of side effects - i had nothing but one side effect, that unfortunate ment i had to get off it quick, but it at least didnt tire me like all the other medicines did..
This is my best examples but yea a lot of medicine have the opposite effect on me and my neighbor and others i know that are neuro diverse 👍

You successfully contributed to normalizing the conversation of self medication and drug use, without making excuses for addiction. I majored in psychology with a focus on addiction studies. I'm going to make a bold assumption here and thank you for being a good person with compassion.
I received a TBI on the vision part of my brain. Couldn't focus my eyes for almost two weeks. I'm glad to see that these people got neat abilities, I also hope they're genuinely happy.

I remember a television series about people who suffered injuries. I think the name of it was "Impact"....
Anyway, one episode detailed a man that was a mechanic on airplanes. One day he was doing some work on an airplane and had an accident, the propeller swung around and hit him in the head sending pieces of his skull into his brain. He can no longer work as a mechanic, he is also not able to be a pilot like he was before the accident. He also has a hard time speaking. He can however sculpt....he add sold some of his works for a great amount of money. I think he also did woodcarving if I remember correctly....
Its great that these folks manage to live a full life and fulfill some outstanding accomplishments 🤗🤗 ...

I had a stroke a couple of months ago, and since had *no* reactions to what was developing into a severe gastric problem that caused my throat to constrict. Severe enough to carry an Epi-pen. Again, after the stroke, all this disappeared. All my doctors are puzzled about this, but I'll take it.
On the other hand, I also have severe ADHD, and now I can't take any stimulant medications. This is fast becoming a personal disaster, and I hate it, but here we are.

Strange ive recently been experiencing my symptoms from my tbi, with 2 skull fractures and a sever brain hemmorage from a sucker punch in august. Just weird this was posted.

I used t be able to, with in 3 or 4 seconds of being asked, state any Inch Decimal Equivalent for any common fraction between 1/32 and 1 inch by 32nds to 5 decimal places, but it was just because I used them alot, now I only know them by 16ths

Hey man id love to see an analysis of yours about some of the concepts from the 3 Body Problem. The books are incredible and the show was pretty good tbh given a very difficult set of events to visually interpret.
Particularly the alien's 11 dimensional sentient computer: The Sophon. It's quantum entangled. I understand that much LOL - so they can control it from 4 lightyears away while their fleet travels for 400 years to earth they use it to disrupt particle accelerators and cause mass hallucinations and stuff. The fact that brain damaged people seem to acquire these special abilities, makes me wonder if undamaged brains also have these capacities that are just not normally developed; could they be developed in anybody? One sees videos like “limitless”, or “Lucy” ankd got to wonder what other talents are masked by normal behaviours or expectations

No doubt as neurological science improves and the technology to unlock brain potential is developed these abilities will be accessible without severe head injuries or congenital defects.

I don't remember learning math. Well, arithmetic. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. I just remember knowing it. I knew my multiplication tables the day i walked into kindergarten. I have a SUPER vague fuzzy memory of learning long division, but i don't remember how old i was. It turned out my cousin and parents started trying to teach me math literally as a baby. And it took. As an adult i became a bartender, and it used to throw folks for a loop when they'd come up and order half a dozen drinks and i would just instantly give them an exact total (no sales tax to compute in that state, but even that wouldn't have mattered). So i may not have it quite as vividly as some savants do, but i totally can identify with the idea of "seeing math". I've also had four concussions. All fairly minor, but they didn't seem to affect it in any way. But now I'm 40 and still math feels like a part of me.
