Our guest is Stanley Crouch, a regular columnist for the New York News and the author of over ten books on jazz and culture. Program from Sunday, April 18, 2010.
I am really going to miss this man's mind. Knew him from my former life in NYC when he and my old colleague Playthel Benjamin sat down and debated the role of Caribbean Americans in American electoral politics. Stanley just did not care what anyone thought. He just spoke his mind. Simple.
I was living in Lawrence, Kansas in the late 1970's and subscribed to the Village Voice primarily to read Mr. Crouch's reviews and opinions. I wish him and his family peace. My sincere sympathies.
The great Stanley Crouch "telling it like it is" as usual. An independent thinker with a STRONG appreciation and value of quality. If he were a young guy, more people would listen to what he has to say with an open mind but unfortunately in 21st century America, if you're old and NOT radically to the left, your ideas will just be viewed as "old fashioned" and not worthy of consideration. I'm not saying I agree with all of his opinions, but he's certainly more "on track" than any other writer or intellectual that I know of.
+Austin Casey He's an out of touch hack. The guy has a long history of sucker punching homosexuals and was fired from the Village Voice for trying to kill a co-worker.
Belatedly, I have come to consider Mr. Crouch a leader and a man of real integrity. Life may not have been always been kind. But he did what he thought was right. And he loved people and culture.
Stanley Crouch was a very bright intellectual whether one agreed with his views or not, but one thing is true and that is he was very interesting to listen too
though strongly opinionated in regards to politics, he doesn't seem to put himself out as an authority, hence he doesn't offend me. he is quite erudite in the matters of american classical music, jazz. and i dont always agree with him there, but his voracity for the subject is quite commendable.
I like Stanley Crouch but I would have enjoyed this interview more if the focus had been less on politics and more on jazz -- something he's actually knowledgeable about.

I fondly remember this guy. I did not always agree with him, however, I respected him and for his passion for his beliefs. RIP Stanley.
I love Stanley Crouch...he is so very wise, and he is for real.
Stanley is a treasure. I agree with his ham radio analogy. Most bloggers indeed do not know what they are talking about.
a terrific interview... Stanley Crouch is refreshing to listen to.
The man speaks his mind ~ RIP Mr. Crouch, musician of the mind

@@evagrubb yeah, Notes of a Hanging Judge was written by the complete polar opposite of a hack, but thanks for playing.
@@soylentramen7795 A hack is still a hack!
@@evagrubb of course it is, sweetheart.

Lmao on Cornel West: "He usually says that." 😂😂
Chilling what he says about the GOP early on. Still goes.

One of the best minds in America! Kudos Brother.
Stanley has "a respect for the truth". Can we hear/read more and more from this guy instead of the others?
I respect Crouch because he's willing to back up his words with his fists
Mark Radewagen true indeed

RIP Mr. Crouch 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Anybody seen Uncle Chip-on-the-shoulder Ruckus?????
People can't be as intelligent as Mr. Crouch, but if they could view America the way he does we would be doing much better.

Words of wisdom.. I don’t mind if he needs to slow down for a second if he hits you back with relevancy.
I'm beginning to like Crouch, just a little!
So close your eyes and imagine Dave Chapelle...😄😄 Dave’s been reading!!!
he praises rachel maddow in 2010, wonder what his opinion was her before he passed
I certainly don't agree with everything this man says, but dammit I respect him.
