Second, Rekrap left out a few details of finding bastions that can make it more accurate, eliminating most of the false positives and false negatives. The main thing you want to do first is to get familiar with the number of entities you should expect to see at your chosen render distance, with no bastion. Load a fresh world (or go a few thousand blocks away in the nether into completely new terrain), wait for everything to completely load, and look down near the bottom of the F3 screen where you'll see a couple of numbers called "M" and "C". These are both counts of different types of entities around you. The important thing to know is that neither of them includes entities that load with bastions. So they will tend to stay consistent at a given render distance, regardless of whether or not there are bastions around. The sum of the two of these is how many entities you should expect to see without any nearby bastions. So a couple examples. You enter the nether. You don't have a noticeable spike while your nether is loading in, but your entities after unpausing are 150 and your normal M+C is only 120. You double check M+C; it is in fact around 120. Conclusion: you do have a bastion. You can lower FOV and scan for it. Next case: It looks like you have a spike, but when you unpause, entities are only 118 and checking M+C shows that is also around 120. There's no bastion. Don't scan, you'll be wasting your time. It's also possible for M+C to not be the usual value. So example: Your entities are 120, but when you check M+C it's only 80. You do have a bastion, scan for it. Or, your entities are 150, but so is M+C when you check it. No bastion, don't waste your time. Neither of these is super common, but it does happen. Also, be very wary of crimson and basalt biomes nearby, because they do tend to have a lot of entities and can send you in the wrong direction if you don't check carefully. Maybe you load in a bastion, you notice a large concentration of entities toward the crimson nearby, and you go that way. But actually the bastion was the other way, behind you. Depending how much time you want to take and how many mistakes you're willing to tolerate, it might be worth it to always do a full scan all the way around if there's a crimson or a basalt in sight rather than just heading toward the fiirst "E:32" you see. Not that you'll necessarily be able to tell which is the real bastion and which isn't, but if you know there's only one bastion in render, and one "spike" is toward a crimson, while the other one is toward a nether wastes, go toward the nether wastes. If you do all of this you'll get it right at least 95% of the time.
Normal base entity value is around 80 iirc, as the hostile mob cap for singleplayer (M on the f3 screen) is 70 and the passive mob cap (for striders, C on the f3 screen) is 10 (i think anyway)
FOR ALL BEGGINER SPEEDRUNNERS: 10:20 Bridge bastions also spawn with hoglins, stables is not the only one. Also I was kinda disappointed that you did a housing route where you don't get the chests first at 24:30. For viewers I would recommend that at the hole he fell down, place two blocks below you and crouch to reach the double chest and equip any gold armor in there. After that you break the smaller chest on the side to get all the piglins angry and do the route rekrap laid out. This is so that you don't have to come back up for obsidian, saving you anywhere from 30s to a minute. He talks briefly about the route you can do with stables when it is a double bad gap which I'm going to be leaving a link to on my channel if you want to know how to it. It's faster but riskier than the normal ones. Anyway, great video rek and happy speerunning to all beginners.
Yeah the housing route where you loot the chests feels safer as well, like you're in control of when you want the piglins to get mad cus you can wait however long you want before breaking the small chest
There's so many variants on most of these routes (in addition to full routes that he didn't show at all). The most important thing is to get people running the stuff that's most easily playable, which (with the exception of not showing left side triple on bridge) I think he did accomplish. You can't quite always pull off looting the top chests that way, but you can always punch a piglin. Efficiency can be learned later, variant routes can be learned later. To be honest the single best thing a beginner speedrunner can do is to go on Twitch and watch people play live. Tutorials can teach a lot, but there's no other way to learn the things that the tutorial had to skip. (I don't disagree with you about the route being better, just wanted to offer another perspective.)
@@nevaansbooks2078 Idk how much you know about bedrock already but there's a lot of differences. Main ones are mine down in the middle of villages that are far out for a chance to dig into a stronghold. Shoot a projectile through the dragons head to deal more damage. And break chests when trading with piglins to speed the process up.
