- First in an occasional series highlighting the work of composers working in films, whose music I feel is under-rated or undervalued. Not necessarily amongst the hardcore filmscore fans, but amongst more casual soundtrack-listening public & possibly the film industry generally.
This is the music of Welshman Michael J. Lewis. Prepare to be awed.
It's scandalous that Michael J Lewis does not have the full recognition he deserves. There are few composers so consistently skilled across such a wide variety of styles. Thanks very much for recognising him.
His scores for '11 Harrowhouse' and 'The Man Who Haunted Himself' are definitely worth a You Tube search, too..............
The Theatre of Blood score is masterful. Truly masterful.
"Edwina's Theme" from "Theatre of Blood" is extraordinarily lovely, moving. Find the whole piece on CZcams. You won't regret it.
December 15, 2020. Listening to Michael J. Lewis Christmas Around the World cd, i decided to search if I could find his recording of "All Thru the Night" of all the Christmas songs in the cd, "All Thru the Night" is my favorite. Glad to find this compilation here. It is great. Michael and I had a mutual friend. Because of her, I started pet sitting for him then he moved out of LA. Every December I listen to his cd. He is a gifted composer. Hope he is well.
wow!..thankyou for this..I agree Michael J Lewis was an amazing film score composer..and yes very under-rated sadly...but what beautiful themes he penned..My personal favourites are the haunting themes from THEATRE OF BLOOD..and the animated film THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE...fantastic music.
The 'Man who Haunted Himself' isn't in there either - a true master work
His choral music is great too. I used to work with Him in LA. Great musician and composer.
this man is brilliant a wonderful composer
Underrated indeed ! I love some of his work so much. Got to know him through the Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe soundtrack. :)
All of Theatre of Blood music is awesome. Love the harpsichord.
Thank you for posting this incredible compilation. I first fell in love with his music in 1982 with FFOLKS. I hope to find all of his scores. Thankfully he did make promos of his scores. Unlike Robert Folk, who left not trace for admirers to find.
To think I stumbled across his name just trying to find the sheet music for his musical version of Cyrano... That's wonderful music. A fellow Welshman, too, born in almost the same area as myself. It's definitely something to be proud of.
Thank you for posting this, @ScoreGuy1980.
Fantastic !!! My favourite is the madusa touch.
Yes indeed Lewis is worthy of more mention that he usually gets. Thanks for giving him some of his due.
My best one is from the Man who haunted himself Roger Moore not listed here sadly absolutely mesmerising theme
You have the respect of GSMS for this post. Bravo!
**U R THE ONLY ONE HU HAS A PORTION OF THE "THE UNSEEN" IT DESERVES A FULL SCORE**
If you want to... The entire OST of "Medusa Touch" (searching: Werezeb - Medusa Touch). Magnificent OST!!
Along with James Horner my favourite film composer of all time
...did you ever come back to this "occasional series"? The other obvious name to go with Lewis is, I think, John Scott...
I love the Hound of the Baskervilles theme . It is not here I guess
dumm irritiert
