Transformers have noses. Transformers breathe. Transformers have a sense of smell. Why wouldn't transformers have noses? They've had noses for 40 years. Noses are canon in transformers.
10:57 AKA Beast Wars eyes!?
Starscream and soundwave are the only bad designs really
What I like about Bumblebee’s head design is that it’s a hybrid of g1 and live action
I think the designs and face looked really good, but they aren’t that uncanny.
Especially those, like myself, whose 1st introduction to Transformers was Beast Wars and up. We’re much more use to transformers with humanlike faces than Geewunners!
It’s an 80s 2d animation aesthetic brought to life in modern 3d animation.
@@XxTW0F4C3DxX Geewunners got their nostalgia glasses on too tight. So much so, that they’ve forgotten that G1 also had humanlike faces, though post G1 had much more, as I said!
I go back and forth with it due to the video games(WfC and FoC) more than anything else when it comes to the faces. The games have that same feel with the CG so seeing these faces then looking back at those faces instead of what Animated first started and future TF gens continued. I just wish that there were some lines to the face plates as being segments instead of being a solid piece with eyes and a mouth.
Op altmode looks like the OG alien truck of marvel comics.
I immediately disconnect from the souls of the characters when their eyes are fully emissive. the pupils really enhance the personalities of the characters and make us see deeper into what their emotional reactions are.
A moment that really stuck out to me in Transformers Armada's finale was the animation bump and how it affected Optimus.
The entire series, he'd been very stern and expressionless, only really emoting with his voice or his hands.
But at the very end, after having his own insecuries laid bare by Unicron, and having Galvatron push that button for all its worth, he starts furrowing his brow and sneering behind his faceplate more often. As if he's finally let the facade of an unknowably wise, idealistic warrior crumble away to reveal the flawed man beneath it all that's not sure if there's a place for him at the end of the war because all he lives for anymore is avenging the men who gave their lives fighting in it.
I completely disagree. Transformers are robots. Not people. They are literally alien robots. They aren't supposed to look like your uncle Dave. Transformers movie 1986 when Prowl dies and his eyes show you exactly what he is...superb...
@@alwaysabiggafish3305 their sentient beings. This literally translates to responsive to or conscious of sense impressions. 2 : having or showing realization, perception, or knowledge : aware. 3 : finely sensitive in perception or feeling. That’s almost impossible with no irises, pupils. Emotions can be expressed in a variety of ways, rather than just with acting. The eyes could smile, cry, and show anger.. that additional layer of detail can help so much. I’m speaking from experience in this.
I really have no problem with these designs.
Why they look good
@@Silver_Mantidhe was saying they are good 😂😂😂
@@-Brickbro1 I misread it lol
Same
I like the designs. Would have liked them a little bit more if they had more angular faces to look more robot like instead of the rounded design
I really have no problem with these designs. I mean I think that the design for Elita-1 looks like a random person drew Arcee from memory but it's not too bad, and I'm a big fan of D-16's design with the black helmet.
That black helmet is something new to me. It's not terrible. It just gives the good buckethead touch.
@@ghostavinci104 Actually the Black Helmet is far from new. It was in the original Transformers comic. D-16 is supposed to be a direct reference to g1 Megatron.
@@leaderoftheautobots1985 It's also new to me too.
And Bee's head still has elements to his G1 and live action but he doesnt have the horns.
Personally I think it's the hard edged lips and overly round features that make them all look like handsome Squidward in CG. I think the best CG designs for the faces are the ones with next to no lips like the Prime versions. In 2D/celshaded the lips don't become so pronounced because of the lack of shading on the upper lips, so they blend in with the face much better. The hard edges on the cheekbones are also much softer than the lips, which contribute to them standing out a lot more.
That said, I'll let the movie designs be judged more fairly after the movie is released to see if I warm up to them. I still remember Transformers Prime being very criticised for its art direction based on early test footage by having no face masks for certain characters and overly expressive face designs like on Starscream, yet nowadays the art and animation are some of the most praiseworthy aspects of the show. As an OG fan of G1 I appreciate how much TF One is seemingly taking inspiration from that era by having more blocky designs and reintroducing the 80s aesthetic with a modern flare to new children. Alpha Trion, Starscream, Shockwave, and Soundwave honestly looked great in CG, so at worst the art and animation can be a bit of a mixed bag when we've had time to reflect on the movie's quality.
nah at this stage they could all have Overlord/Netflix Megatron JoJo's Bizarre Adventure lips and 50% of the fandom would applaud 😂
Starscream and soundwave are the only bad designs really. Their proportions are all wrong
i completely agree with you, i’d just add that the color palette they’re using is weird, but yeah, to criticize the overall movie you have to wait for it to come out but so far the main characters seem like a half assed version of the war for cybertron game designs, but for kids.
having an iris is kinda important to tell where a character is looking without moving their entire head
like a couple of the shots have characters looking into the camera (mostly d-16/megatron) but their entire face isn’t pointing at the camera so with a solid color eye it seems they are looking off screen
so yeah it just comes back to visual expression really
I can’t believe we are nitpicking eye designs now.
I like the designs as they are. They are
expressive and convey emotions.
I just want this movie to do well so can get the whole damn trilogy.
Same
To be honest as a retired transformers fan I just don't see the point of this argument.
I mean seriously why are we arguing about eyes what we should put our focus on is not the facial features but the overall look and to be honest it looks so damn good and I cannot wait for this movie.
Let's just hope it goes well.
First off, expressive not expensive
Second off im so excited for this movie and i adore the designs for the bots, they all feel so alive and thats whats most important in nailing for transformers, to make them all feel like characters. I also hope that we don’t have peter cullen as optimus in the movie, he’s fantastic and all but his voice now is more suited for an older Optimus multiple millennia after the war starts
You mean "expressive"? Also, I agree; I really want this movie to do wonderfully cuz I'm loving almost everything so far!
It's gonna flop anyways😂
They look like the Marvel Comic's Designs so that's pretty awesome
True yet people hated
I think what we all were expecting was a full movie of what we seen in the first 5 mins in the movie bumble bee, a war for cybertron sort of thing with no humans.
I got no problems with the designs, I remember people complaining about Transformers Prime because there was no nose. end of the day some people will winge about it not being the same as some other thing but they forget that it's not some other thing. Prime isn't G1 or the 2005 IDW comics or the games etc. let One be it's own thing and let it succeed or fail based on it's own merits as a story.
And no there people complaining that they have noses
You know, this trailer hits sooo far from what we're used to with Transformers, I was on the dislike side at the start, but I'm not about holding grudges, it's growing on me, and I'm now looking forward to this movie 😉
Without the helmets, you can't tell them apart.
Nah, BB's is more broad and round. Elita has a narrow nose and more angular chin. Megatron and Optimus are too similar, but Meg has higher cheek bones with that triangular edge. I agree that much more should've been done to differentiate, though.
If you look at just about any TF media that isn't related to the Bayverse, or Knightverse, Transformers have had faces like this since G1.
Lmao in the bayverse they even have beards which made them look cool or badass but it makes no sense.
@@Raccon_Detective.
*Jetfire and Hound Intensifies*
@@dragonslairproductions5138
Exactly! lol, in fact the autobots looked way too human in the bayverse which is a stark contrast to the decepticons monstrous and alien appearance because they're supposed to be the same species.
Those decepticons designs are better reserved for the predacons designs in fact if they were to bring the predacons to live action the bayverse decepticons designs would make a great blueprint.
@Raccon_Detective.
A reason I've thought of for the Autobots being more humaoid and the Decepticons being more monstrous is to, idk, "show us who's good and bad,". They maybe thought it made the Autobots more heroic and good-looking, and the Decepticons more evil and justifiable to obliterate, lol
@@Raccon_Detective. I mean, didn’t characters like Alpha Trion and Scourge also had beards ever since G1?
My personal favorite esthetic goes to TFP. I really like how all of them have different types of eyes and they all can show so much expression in the show.
I love Megatron’s eyes.
I don't have a problem with the designs. I think the only thing that might throw people off are the people who only know the Transformers live action movies seeing them with solid faces for the first time but for anyone who's actually been a fan of the franchise before 2007 or even watching the cartoon series that have been around since then, we've always seen Transformers looking like this. Though the faces with the panel lines so it looks like they can realistically emote instead of having one solid plate of metal that moves like squishy skin is the one thing I wish they kept from the live action designs. I don't want Megatron's ugly live action face, the Decepticons usually had terrible insect like designs that I hated but the Autobots usually didn't look that bad... except for Bumblebee who never really had a proper face. Bumblebee just always looked like the after math of Optimus ripping someone's face off.
Well, at least the Knightverse improved Bee's face infinite-fold. Right? He looks pretty badass and adorable. Knightverse Bee reminds me a little of TFP Bee, especially ROTB. I love him alot. I really wanna get SS100 ROTB Bee soon.
I like the panel lines on the faces from the Bumblebee movies too.
The panel lines definitely help make bots with similar faces look different from each other, especially when integrated with things like Blitzwing's pilot mask which implies the bots can build on top of their faces to suit whatever tasks they're applying themselves to.
I'm going to be totally honest, those edits of Megatron with the solid eyes instead does not feel like an upgrade to me. It feels like a downgrade and that's not any insult to the editor! He did an excellent job making that adjustment, but if anything it just makes me appreciate the modern eyes more. The facsimile of a pupil adds to the personable effect on the face and makes the characters more relatable. Nowadays I think solid eyes work more for heartless and menacing characters like Airachnid, or when a character has a solid visor like OG Soundwave, Grimlock, and Battletrap-or even the singular dot like Shockwave, and by extension Whirl. As such there's still a place for solid color eyes in modern iterations, but the technology has advanced since the 80's to not need to keep it around.
I'm a huge fan of the long-legged anime esc proportions, love seeing that return
Something interesting I noticed is that none of them are painted. They're anodized. Their metal is kinda rough and since they don't have a clear-coat they have a deep metallic look without being so shiny that they blend into dark backgrounds. Their color is also readable in all lighting.
I love the designs. Also arion and D-16 having similar looking chins connects the “brothers” lore
Have yall seen their faces in the G1 Cartoon? Some are damn near nightmare fuel.
what’s funny is people are complaining about these faces yet 50% of faces in tf prime looked like a flat model with eyes and a slice cut for a mouth, at least these have structure and are definitely easier to convey emotions and relate to, These faces feel like the unicron trilogy style faces (mainly armada) with good 3d rendering and ray tracing.
Here’s my thing with the eyes, Sixo’s red eyes look great in still images but imagine what they would look like in motion, flat, emotionless, piercing. They look great for a villain, but not for your heroes, hell TF animated had slight little highlights in the eyes to help add that bit of detail and I think that small detail is part of the reason why those designs are so loved, I always look at it this way, if G1 came out now instead of the 80’s how would it look? Would it look just like it did back then? Or would there be more small details to help make the characters more relatable and interesting?
I think part of the problem here is the fan base can’t decide what it wants, half of them are begging for an origin story solely on cybertron but now they’re getting mad that it’s exactly what they wanted. while the other half wanted a movie with relatable characters and actual depth with the story but are now complaining about the physical character traits that help convey the relatable emotions they wanted to experience. Everybody just wants to hate everything, not even with transformers, people are already bashing the Deadpool movie, like how can you bash a Deadpool movie.
completely agree. people and fans would overlook the prime face designs purely because the story was really good
So you guys gonna pretend that TFP's art style is comparable to TFO? that's just pitiful level of coping..
TFP fully embraces the wacky body proportions of the transformer's bodies, which not only works with the comparatively lower visual fidelity of the show, but their unique cartoony body proportions makes them wildly distinguishable from each other. Were their faces to be more dimensional, it'd look weird for the show.
Tho, my issues with TFO's art style is with Orion Pax. His facial structure is way too human like, down to his eye hole's design, it's extremely organic when compared to literally the rest of the main cast.
Personally don't mind their actual eyes designs and colors, and Megatron's yellow eyes will help make the inevitable betrayal scene hit harder.
That's the problem with a fan base as diverse as the Transformers fan base. No matter what you do, there will always be one group that will complain.
@@Chrenklen242EXACTLY, I would much rather watch armada or animated because not only does animated get good with the story, but it’s just a very visually pleasing show to watch, better designs, more expression, the most MENACING megatron variant put in a tv show. And Armada’s Starscream has got to be the best Starscream variant EVER. Not to mention it’s just a transformers anime which makes it amazing off the jump. Prime had a great story but I don’t ever get the feeling of “I wanna re-watch this because it’s just so cool to watch” the only good human design was niko, the sets lacked any depth except for the nemesis or the autobot HQ, and the animation as a whole was beast wars like animation with better textures, 1080p resolution, and a higher poly count.
@@Benjuicyyit’s not me, it’s the entire fan base, not to mention cam brought prime up as a comparison to this style because it’s one of the ONLY fully 3d animated transformers IP’s. I don’t mind primes designs, it led to some of the best figures ever (first edition Starscream is still one of my favorite figures in my collection) but for a show with an amazing story, most of the characters lacked that depth of expression which could have pushed the show even further. without their voice actors and writers, it wouldn’t have been as good. And I slightly agree with pax’s face issues, but he looked wonky in G1 also, and primes face is gonna change once he becomes prime, I mean, imagine if pax had the earthspark butt chin. It could ALWAYS be worse
When I draw my transformers, I do the optics in a solid color, Butttt, add depth to them, add some lighter / darker colors to make a nice fade. Then I surround the pupil in my lightest color, and it turns out great.
Earthspark was a clear inspiration for the designs here but I feel like Construct Bots were apart of the inspiration for these designs too
Agreed and I hate it. EarthSpark is arguably the worst designs ever worse than Unicron Trilogy
@@Carpediem357 I think ES Bumblebee is a solid exception to that. Op and Meg looked bizarre to me because of their jutting cheek bones, but bee-cause (had to) of his round face and the t-shaped flesh-space, BB didn't have that problem. The little jagged engravings also help give the illusion of a plating seam, which is super helpful in distracting from metal squidgy-ness.
@@Carpediem357aside from optimus those designs are solid
I don't see it, personally.
ES looks like a flat color with an added circle on top,
While TFOne looks like there's an empty socket, and a physical eye-piece moving around, and lighting up the transparent protective surface.
I think the designs are cool
I really like their design, their faces don't bother me, because it's animations, maybe we could talk about the movie and see how we feel about this film
Maybe if the chins were squared off to show they are more like robots I think it would be better
Unneeded
I really like these designs precisely because these are the younger versions of these classic characters. I especially like Megatron/D-16's design; before he became Megatron, we knew it, and I liked how it references his original design with the yellow eyes and black helmet. I also really like Elita 1 and Optimus's designs. I really don't get why people complain about the face designs. I feel like it looks good, and while Im no animation expert, I think the facial designs look relatively good and allow them to emote pretty well. Ive always been a bit confused about whether different eye colours truly represent what faction a Transformer belongs too, such as if you have blue eyes your an Autobot but red eyes means your a Decepticon and sometimes it gets confusing whether or no that's the canon or not and it can get rather inconsistent to understand
I noticed 2 things with TF 1 posters u should one is the eyes as u said but the other is the fact that Optimus, Elita 1 , Bumblebee all have smiles on there face while Megatron is scowling
honestly i really dont mind the new designs and the animation style. Looking forward to seeing them in the movie
This was like one of the first movie with those types of faces. And I can give credit to them for making the faces not uncanny. Bravo, TF ONE team :D
I think the reason why the no noses worked so well for transformers prime, is because the head design felt like more of a single cohesive piece and less like a helmet being worn. They didnt really have forheads and there was always something in the area where the nose would normally be.
Prime's designs were also quite alien if you think about it which also helps with the lack of nose
I love the designs for my part. I love Megatron's unique eye configuration and the way they can still be recognized easily, despite being superficially similar on some points. I really cant wait to see this on the big screen!
For the eyes, I feel like they should do a slight mix of both iris and blocky look. They would have the blocky eye but a faint glow moving around like Prime did for Starscream, just a little less prominent glow for the iris.
I do like design talks. It's cool how certain parts show different expressions and how different art styles make little things a big impact. For Transformers One I like the designs.
I felt the opposite. I fell in love with the eye design when you began talking about it which is the last thing I expected but I’m glad you pointed it out.
My personal nitpick (which is more of a preference than a complaint) is that I’d prefer to see this Megatron with an areal alt mode like the helicopter from Animated but not from Earthspark to fit his famous “Transform and rise up” quote. I’m definitely checking out this movie.
I like that megs has got a little backpack
His alt mode is also really good looking
I'm honestly just hyped through and through, even if it turns out mediocre like some people think it will. I hope it won't obviously, but it's obvious that this is being made by people who actually care about the franchise.
I think we’re gonna get used to them really fast. The design will kinda take a backseat to the emotions that are expressed
The reason why fans dislike the designs because it's not the transformers they grew up with and they can't comprehend that.
Certain fans really genuinely surprised this is gonna be an animated film, even complaining how they should've made TF live action only which is dumb AF
My only complaint about the designs is that the faces of these characters are solid metal, yet behave as if they are made of flesh. It just feels too...organic for what are essentially living robots. Too rounded, not enough hard edges.
Beyond that, though? The designs are great. I'm fine with their eyes having something akin to pupils, since that makes them more expressive. And since they aren't anywhere near their final states as characters, the "smaller", younger appearances serve them very well. I'm cautiously optimistic about where they take things in the show.
Who doesn’t love giant robots having lushes lips. I seriously don’t know why I like the big lips on them so much, wfc megatron looks so awesome with those lips and you can not change my mind.
I LOVE THE DESIGNS! Though now I have to add another Bumblebee design to my current art challenge lol. I honestly never really thought about the optic designs, but I love them all, I did notice you didn't mention Transformers Animated. As for the one thing that gets me, it's that in every other Transformers show or movies, Bumblebee is always said to be younger than many of the Autobots and didn't know Optimus as Orion Pax, so I just really hope they keep this timeline separate from the others to avoid doing what the Bayverse movies ended up doing and messing up their timeline badly. Other than that I look forward to watching this, I love the overall design they have and look forward to drawing Bumblebee (If you can't tell he's my favorite).
i feel like the designs are a good mix between the "modern" gen 1 designs and the "ancient" gen 1 designs
you know those cybertronian designs before the shit hit the fan with the war
when the robots looked more like normal humans
Perfectly fine. Despite the fact that once again you can see Optimus' mouth and everybody has the equivalent of human-like pupils and irises instead of pure one colored eyeballs; which are far superior
I think that it's not something you can pinpoint to one specific aspect, but rather a principle, that when people see, it immediately gives off generic Pixar/Dreamworks/Illumination vibes, and that is roundness. There is not one straight line or sharp corner in the designs. And I understand that this is also design shortcut to convey youth, but here, and in addition to the overall tone and humor, it appears all-encompasing. It does look like if Illumination did Transformers.
Having, collectively, watched the FOC trailers for more than a decade now, and those Bumblebee scenes, this is a far cry from the tone that anyone could expect that they'd choose to tell this particular story. It seems like we're getting an aesthetically compromised representation of one of the most passionately anticipated parts of the lore. And I feel like, in the time of what feels like a renaissance for western animation, with Spider-Verse, Arcane and X-Men '97, if this looked legit impressive in any way, we wouldn't need to defend it, or try to dissect it to justify it. It just looks lame.
Damm. I started by watching prime cuz I saw the first 5 episodes as a kid, then a few random episodes as a kid and now I'm old enough to figure out how to watch it without live tv. I randomly saw the trailer for transformers one while searching for something and now I'm falling deep into the transformers rabbit hole. Thank you for having the vids to scratch the itch but also damm you cuz soon I'll have another badge to add to my Nerdy-ness to repell normal people more then already. Jokes aside I look forward to watching pretty much all your videos and I already subscribed for future reference
I just realized that all the Prime Autobot's eyes are turquoise.
Arcee's the only one with actual blue eyes!
I loved the eye designs I might add em to my art
I don’t remember where I first saw this, but the commenter said something like this:
“The Netflix War for Cybertron was the battle of the lips.
Animated was the battle of the chins.
Prime was the battle of the hips.”
What do y’all think TF One will be the battle of?
My problem with the faces is that they look fleshy, giving them an uncannily creepy appearance. Some more angular features and mechanical articulation would make them look so much better. The rest of the design besides the faces, I like.
When you mentioned"so many continuities", i'm reminded of the universal outrage bayformers got. But jokes on them, those movies are what made transformers famous, worldwide! Right?
They were world famous before then
@@surenderreddy8144. Excuse me?
The eyes in Earthspark have a good balance between G1 and the present. I like those. But what would be even better is if they could make the outside darken, to make the pupils disappear inside.
SIXO does a great job!!
Personally IMO, it’s the collective animation aesthetic of everything that we’ve seen in the movie.
The sequences in the trailer with action were actually alright and remind me of TFP, but the sequences of the main four on the surface in particular just looks like the Croods 2 but with an Earthspark reskin. I’ve been told, and hoping that it’s true, that the tone of the movie moves from a kids comedy to a gritty conflict. (They said it’s going to be a trilogy, so it will be a prolonged transition)
But everything else looks fine. Except for maybe Brian Tyree Henry’s performance as Megatron (nothing on him, I’m assuming he did his best with what he was given), the one line with “Why did you bring jetpacks?” Just said to me that D-16 is a black adolescent teenager (I do not mean it in the wrong way), because of his mouth animation throughout the trailer, but that scene in particular when it showed his teeth when he finished talking (same way my black friend’s mouth moves when he talks).
The design and shape of the transformers is fine, even though I was expecting a slightly deviated version of the War For Cybertron look (since I heard that animation studio would be on this project), but it looks alright; will attract the kids nicely.
I did have to explain to my friend why they would be using a CGI/Bayverse transformer style:
“The amount of money spent on that alone would be enough to pay for a middle aged, middle class citizen’s mortgage and buy them 2 new houses in this economy.”
In animation, 3d animation especially, you should design characters in a way that makes it easy to make them expressive. Sonic has big floppin hands and feet, as well as a giant conjoined eye, and because of how unyielding those features are, it means a lot of animators struggle to make him expressive. One of the most well animated and expressive examples of Sonic is in all the 'Boom' series stuff, and you can see that they reworked all his proportions so they were easier animate.
I see this as them making the job easier with a change that some will like and some will not. If there is one idea I had though, it's the idea of Decepticons not wanting to be read, and so they alter their eyes to be slabs of colour. That'd be neat.
I'd say that its the noses on orion and D-16 and bumblebee being hornless but thats all
I really like how they did the eyes, they're pretty. The faces feel a tad bit too round and soft, but I guess that's so they look younger.
Where you said that the eyes are a colour and then the pupils are highlighted like in earthspark, I just thought of it as the pupils are the eyes, and the glow from the pupils make it seem like the black area isnt black
I really like the designs, especially the designs after they get their T-cogs. Those designs are awesome.
For me, I do the same body type on everyone like a Masters of The Universe Toy Set
awesome job about Robot Designs from Transformers One 2024
I'm old (G1 era) and I quite like these. The overall tone and look are quite appealing to me, I'll definitely watch this (I skipped every Bayverse film after the first one). Looks to be headed in a good direction.
Ever since bumblebee I've now realized none of the movies afterwards relate to the Micheal Bay transformers. I grew up with the Micheal Bay transformers movies so I like them more of course, but it's still interesting to see transformer movies with their own story I guess you could say
Bro the eyes in the thumbnail are so much better !!!
I wish us Transformers fan can get along but that is too much to ask for.
In italian frome my heart:
"Sei un cagacazzi"
Run to play bricola in to the bar.
Looks great to me. This is them in their young forms. Megatron is awesome though...DP-16 which is the Japanese moniker and he has his Marvel Comics/early G1 commercial look. Sick. And we already know Orion Pax is going to look like Optimus eventually. I look at the other bots shown in the trailer...Soundwave, Starscream, Shockwave...eventually, they're going to look G1.
I like the way they look and I think they work for non-Tcog designs.
Each character poster looks like the character posters for the Freddy’s movie lol
I love the face designs, it does remind me of transformers prime. It’s like g1 and tf prime mixed together
I was hoping they'd look a bit more alien like tfp, rather than being so humanoid like the robots from Robots (The movie)
I do like it and the faces throw you off, I say maybe it’s cause everything looks quite round, if that makes sense. Cause in a lot of the cartoons and films we think blocky or very pointy/sharpness. They’re mixing in a lot of different parts from years of transformers media. Remember the plot of movies and shows is what carries in the long run like Prime.
I think what they could do is go for a more gritty and darker turn for how many other movies they are planning to make. and if so(most likely a trilogy) then they could evolve and fix the face designs. What tripped me up was the chins, not so much of the eyes or nose but the chins just look the same as you said and to it just doesn't give the cybertronian feel that I know. The only major concern for this movie is the story so overall I really don't care but it just pokes me in a way that I can't ignore the designs. Animations and lighting looks fantastic, but the design of Cybertron is a new and odd one. Obviously there's many reason for why cybertron looks like it is in this movie but the cybertron I'm more attuned to and want is the cybertron design from the games War For Cybertron, and Fall of Cybertron. Im just so mad that optimus is not voiced by Peter McCullin like wtf.
The solid red eyes on young Megatron are not bad, pretty creepy actually, but that's kind of the problem since it's suppose to be a Megatron before he becomes the leader of the Decepticon's.
3:54 so we're just gonna forget about that scene where Ratchet sniffs the air in the 2007 Movie?
I think the best way I would look at the animation and design is that is like what beast wars would have if it has better rendering animations and smoother texture
When I saw this trailer I got so fucking excited like I'm so damn sold to see it and it gives me a chance to see what cybertron was before the great war and what was D-16 and Orion Pax was before the whole conflict I seriously love the trailer I don't see anything wrong with it and I'm being really honest about it too.
I don't know how to describe how they did it, but I like how the Bumblebee movie specifically designed the faces to look both like something that could grow bio mechanically and be put together with the right bits of metal.
The eye part has more ties on the theme of the shows...if it is less comedic then better it uses just whole highlights but if you want to tell more lighter themes then the pupil one....
Hence why Bayverse has battle face
I’m surprised you never mentioned the eyes from bumblebee movie, those also have a very transformers one look to them
They're almost perfect, I wish the eyes were more solid though
Well, I don't know but I LOVE those eyes... I guess I love the expressiveness they have
TFP and Transformers depictions from comics and the upcoming movie have unique designs for my taste because it's more robotic but also feels alive.
I've mainly heard people having a discourse with the designs being too humanized, i'm surprised that its *the pupils* that are getting the flack.
I personally love how they are here & believe they bring the characters to life. The way they dilate like when you see TFP Optimus or Bumblebee's when they shrink in fear. It also gives us more information on how the character is interpreting the world.
I feel like if they went the no pupils route, they need to make the face emote more on characters that we've seen so far. there's something about my brain not connecting with it. Even in the comics for example, I was fine but it was confusing to me on some parts. it got confusing for me if the shine was meant to be the pupils looking somewhere or if it was the colored part. Sometimes I couldn't tell where a character is looking, there are factors like that I feel others don't take into consideration besides the style or assume other people understand angling.
Facts! People should learn to get over things. These faces are really not that bad for such amount of noice. Not perfect, as you noticed but not that big of a deal either
I genuinely like elita-1s face and that’s not me being down bad I just think it has the most going on so it makes it look better
Looking at their eyes close up I think its a clear glass pane with the eye inside being the shape we see of the iris and the light from that is shining on the space around that, and the shape of their iris and the colour ends up being a factor for how bright the light shining into the rest of it appears, cause Megatrons yellow isn't as bright around the iris as the colours for the other 3's eyes.
Edit: I think the biggest thing I'm not a fan of with the designs is the big gaping holes in them. Yes I'm aware the t-cogs are put into the body through it but if this TF universe has T-cogs as something you aren't born with and you're born with this giant hole in your chest then where the hells the spark? Cause that's a pretty deep hole.
I really like the designs of TF One, it kinda reminds me of Bluesky's Robots in the what the characters are proportioned, to me at least.
11:45 I agree, I often like both ways of an “argument” within the fandom, I’m just more adaptable that way I guess 🤷🏻♀️ Lucky me! 😁
I think the character design is excellent.
I want to connect with a character not the inside of a transmission.
Honestly if they colored in the eyes, then highlighted the irises uniquely among the characters that would look best
They look perfect. Faces are strange sure but it all works really really well!
I just feel that a more balanced body shape for Orion and Megatron would be better than the long legs and short upper body.
The edit does look nice, but i like the original better cus the pupils and iris being seperate from the 'sclera' makes it easier to know where the focus of the character could be. of course eyebrows and head position can express emotion and attention of the character, but if they were unable to move cus there's a motion sensor nearby? we wouldn't know if they were looking to the corner of their eye and not just staring straight as they maintain control over their body. It's a small thing, but the difference is there
My main gripe with the entire design argument was the face looked odd but I couldn't quite figure out why but I think cam is onto something with the chins. The eyes I actually really like. its a nice semi realistic take of the more modern eye designs. If I was to complain about designs the only thing I would say is WHY IS SOUNDWAVE A BOX WITH LIMBS?!
I will say that I am loving the animation, it’s definitely stylized but it’s got more of a stylize realism approach similar to the likes of Rango (I mean it’s also from the same studio), Adventure of Tintin or a modern Japanese video game like the newest Tekken or Final Fantasy game.
As for the faces while they have grown on me I still do feel like this and TF Earthspark show that the smooth G1 faces don’t really translate well to 3D and comes across as looking weird, I just wish that the faces at least had more detail to them like Alpha Trion in the same movie.
Let us all go back to the Energon days when transformers were first rendered in CG models and how the biggest complaint was how stiff and robotic they look and move and how they had no expression other than "mouth open mouth close". Animation has come a long way to make these characters super expressive.
I love designs!
What do you folks think of the faces on the RandallNg/DrSmoov designs?
