  • Here at Noisegate we usually concern ourselves with creating content such as reviews, tutorials and first looks at fresh new products. As much as we enjoy creating this kind of content sometimes we yearn for something that is a bit more action-packed. We put together a crack team of investigative journalists and performed a real-world field test on JBL's EON712 PA speaker.
We came up with a raft of tests to see if the EON712 could handle some real-life impacts and adverse environments. These tests were organised in ascending order of damage with the final drop test designed to completely destroy the speaker, but the results completely surprised us! Do not try this at home, we're serious!

How do you think we should actually KILL this speaker?

If you really want to kill the JBL EON, you will need to re-do each test with the power and XLR cables connected and turned on.

when pushing it over, shouldn't power already be applied for a more accurate test?

Thank you. Planning on buying this speaker so it's good to know it withstood so much.

As a drunk idiot I must protest. I would never spill beer or be far enough away from the bar to knock a tripod over.

The last drop test was good , however with the drunk beer test I feel that should be carried out after 4 hours of playing on clip so everything’s hot and you need a jug , you gotta let that whole woofer fill to the brim leave it while it’s playing for long enough for a roady to come flip it over wipe the grill with his sleeve and carry on .
All these tests should have been carried out with a live signal (except the boot drop) and see how the input and crossover / amp all reacts then . Test the durability of the inputs them selves . I know how well my europower stuff handled it and it has a lower price tag.
For the final test for the jbl may I suggest a woofer destruction test remove the woofer plug 240v directly to it so it plays 50/60hz at around 2400w continuously

The beer spill test was wholly inadequate. Next time, shake the bottle up. Then spray the front and back of the speaker. Otherwise, these test results are amazing!

We all know the only thing that JBL speakers can't stand is scratches :), they age faster than a crackhead if not well protected with atleast a bag:)

I mean it survived a 5 meter drop onto concrete so we'd say it's good
