- List of all main summer olympic games stadiums through history from 1896's Panathenaic Stadium to 2028 Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
An Olympic stadium is the site of the opening and closing ceremonies. Many, though not all, of these venues actually contain the words Olympic Stadium as part of their names. Olympic Stadium may also be named a multi-purpose stadium which hosts Olympic sports. In the case of the Summer Olympic Games, athletics competitions and the football final are traditionally held in the Olympic Stadium.

Actually the 2028 Olympics will be held in two stadiums for the starting ceremony at least
I just love how most stadiums are built in the 20th-21st century while the first one was build in 330 bc
its a stretch to say it was build in 330bc. its on the same location as a really old "stadium" but it wasnt really built as we imagine it today until the middle of the 1800s.
Some are from the 19th century tho.
And they still had to rush to get things ready for 2004!
The MCG was built in 1853
TheRenaissanceman65 The Olympic stadium for the 2004 games had been built in 1982 for the European Championships. You may confuse it with the new roof that was installed
Los Angeles during the Summer Olympics
1932: let's use the memorial stadium
1984: let's use the memorial stadium
2028: let's use the memorial stadium
2064: let's use the memorial stadium
Well technically So-fi stadium is being used in 2028.
@@bryanthaley7734 both are being used. So many stadiums and sports Arenas in Los Angeles. The Coliseum, The Rose Bowl, and now So-Fi
Where's the punch line?
@@jdredwine7224 it will mainly be sofi because it's way nicer and can hold more people
@@bryanthaley7734 is it being used for track and field
All begin from Greece
From Greece and thanks to the French Pierre De Coubertin who took the initiative to create the modern era of the Olympic Games, 2000 years later.

London 2012 Olympic were one of the most successful games. Every sporting venue was full of people watching, including paraOlympic which usually get so much less coverage and audience. Beijing was good too. I was so exited about Tokyo but covid ruined for the athletes as well as for everyone else.
you could put the berlin olympics in the same category, people were invested and they set the standard for modern olympic games, which we still follow today.
Greece: No war during the olympics.
Germany: Hold my beer.
The 1936 games were before the war, 2 years later.
@@tonykeltsflorida 3 years later you mean
@@barrystanton3613 yeah, 3.

Oh k
The Maracanã only hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and football at the 2016 Olympics, all the athletics events were at Estadio Nilton Santos, the Botafogo stadium.
Exactly. I am from Brazil. I realize this mistake too and I was about to comment something like this to fix that information
@@filipe_pp Not really a mistake. The Olympic stadium is for the Opening and closing ceremonies. Athletism is another one.
what you said is true, OLYMPIC STADIUM NILTON SANTOS, FROM BOTAFOGO, which was actually the official Olympic stadium
@@fahelsa5068 You are confused, the Stadium are not necessarily to be called "OLYMPIC". Several Stadiums such the ones in Atlanta, Tokyo, Melbourne, etc are not called OLYMPIC but hosted the opening and closing ceremonies THAT is what counts! Maracana was that stadium.
@@Angelotube5000 Oh sorry. Yeah, this makes sense. Now I understood. Thanks
Munich Olympic Stadium is the first one with contemporary and revolutionary design
Looks trash
Why, because are you saying something silly or not keep that in mind!
After 50 years the stadium still looks modern.
Los Angeles 1932 , Berlin 1936 , Munich 1972 , Montreal 1976 , Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 are the most impressive ones imo.
@@manansethi2865 the London and Melbourne ones were also pretty cool
Oh yes, 330 BC I remember those days we were playing with a head instead of a ball.
😂 Different times, different habits.
The greeks never used a head in the olympics- in fact, football was ( probably) invented in persia. The Olympic sports were athletics, boxing, wrestling and a horserace with chariots. Playing a sport with a head is an Afghan thingy, i think....
Panathenaic Stadium: Built 2000 years before the Olympics with 80K spectators

Madrid must be like, bruh, i tried 5 times
Poor santiago bernabeu or metropiano
Detroit tried more times
Detroit tried from 1952 till 1972. They also informally showed interest back in 1920 for hosting the 1928 games. In 1939, they also went to bid but lost for the 1944 games (cancelled due to war).
That Los Angeles stadium was the best investment they’ve ever done
So Melbourne and Sydney have had the two largest in history with around 115,000? You love to see it

The ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, in the Peloponnesus peninsula -- NOT in Athens. The Panathenaic Stadium you see today was built the way it is, out of marble, in 1895. There used to be rough seating stands on the hill there -- but the beautiful marble stadium arose in 1895.
Actually the SoFi stadium which is currently under construction is going to host all or part of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Los Angeles 2028 Games with organizers having proposed a split format that would also incorporate the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Just to be know that Olympic logo still hasn’t change over 100 years
I hope so, even like Coca-Cola change it’s fonts.

Maracanã 🇧🇷❤
They ruined Maracana with the makeover. As they did with Luzhniki.
Funny thing is, they changed the two tier maracana in a one tier, and one tier Luzhniki in a two tier, and failed miserably in both cases. Such a shame. ..
Nicely put together. Like how it went past the present. A shot fo SOFI (90% complete or rendering)would’ve been nice with the LA memorial.
A good video! But it's a bit misleading, in my opinion, to say the Panathenaic Stadium dates back to 330BC. Certainly there was a Panathenaic stadium at that site during that period, commissioned by Lykourgas. But what we see is not the original structure. It is the marble rebuild of 144AD by Herodes Atticus, excavated in 1869 for the Zappas Olympics and later refurbished in 1896 for the first modern Olympics. But maybe I'm just splitting hairs :P
We are the creators 🇬🇷
The olympic games in Barcelona were splendid !!!!
Hey, TFC Stadiums Team !!! ... Can you update this video with one of current logos for Los Angeles 2028 from September 1st, 2020 (Now stylized : LA28) nearly at the end of this video, please ? 🙂
Maracanã,the best 🇧🇷
LA 2028's main stadium is actually going to be the newly completed SOFI Stadium
It looks like a point marker from Google earth and maps
I think the opening and closing ceremonies will still be where the torch is, at Memorial, even though most events will be at SOFI.
The Rio 2016's Olympic Stadium was not Maracanã, just used to to the Ceremonies and football (it even hasnt a track!) . It was Estadio Olimpico João Havelange, a new athletics stadium built to the PanAm Games 2007, now known as Estadio Nilton Santos, a legendary Brazilian football player.
Sobre o estádio olímpico da Rio 2016, está errado no vídeo, o Estádio Olímpico da Rio 2016, é o Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos "Engenhão" e não o Maracanã como divulgado!
Memorial Colisseum in 1932 had about 101.000 and now it has about 71.000... 😔 the plastic chairs added to count how many people are inside the stadium and for convience of corse but less people join the concert. | if Panathenaic stadium was completed( i mean rounded full circle) back then it would still be used to till today somehow and imagine a stadium built 2200 years before first stadiums (1870+330)
Nah, it was the new Press Box/Suites for USC
3:30 Mexico 68 one of the best Olympics, hopefully Mexico is encouraged to launch its candidacy for 2032 and further increase its legacy. Since it would be after the World Cup of Futbool United 2026 it would have part of the infrastructure already ready.
It would be incredible to see an inauguration where they show the greatness of their Aztec, Mayan, Olmec, Purepechas, pre-Hispanic cultures, represented with current technology.
maybe 2036 or 2040, but probably not 2032 because LA is hosting it in 2032, and i dont think the IOC would want north america to host 2 straight olympics
Am me too México city Monterrey, Guadalajara or Queretaro we have all
In Guadalajara it would be cool, in inauguration they can use Mariachi
London Olympic stadium would be great if the stick with the giant screen wrap around outside the stadium
Los Angeles built the Coliseum in 1923 (massive for those days if you compare what others had) for the 1932 Olympics. It was host again in 1984, but in 2028 it will co-host with the new $5 billion SoFi Stadium.
In 2012 I finished the Athens Classic Marathon in the 1896 stadium. One of best finishes ever (hated rest of race though)
Hopefully we can bring the olympics back to Melbourne someday!
@TFCStadiums might be a good idea to update the LA2028 logo and add on Brisbane 2032
Sydney 2000 will always be special to me because it was in my home city and I was a volunteer , precious memories that I have with me forever
Gotta hand it to LA Mem Coliseum. Ninety years old and still hosting sold out USC games to this day. They also had pro football teams, a Superbowl, and even the Dodgers played there for two seasons.
