Nothing quite captures the imagination like the Olympic games. There is just something about these incredible competitions that taps into the human spirits, and globally, people are drawn in to the storylines, the triumphs, the heartbreak, and of course, the smashing of world records. There’s a reason that over 3.2 billion people will tune in and cheer on not only these amazing athletes from the sports that they love, but any and all competitors that represent the countries that they live in. It’s a beautiful thing, and countries spend a fortune getting their cities up to snuff to make sure that their Olympics is the most impressive Olympics yet. But here’s the underside that no one ever seems to talk about. The fate of all these structures years after the games have concluded. See, the truth is, unfortunately theres not much of a market for a state of the art Kayaking facility, or a multi million dollar olympic sized swimming pool after the games have come and gone. And the fate of these one majestic venues is the same across the globe. They are left to rot. Today we are taking a look at many of these abandoned Olympic buildings that can be found all around the world. It’s a shame too, as many of these structures were top of the line when they were first built. But if you don’t use it, you lose it. And that certainly seems to be the case with what we are about to show you today.

The Olympic village in Stratford London is in full use, the athletes accommodation is now public housing and the stadium is now used by West Ham United football club. They also turned the whole area into an amazing city park 👍🏼
Same for Atlanta he said Olympic cauldron was crumbling but the stadium that’s shown was destroyed because the occupants moved out but now there building apartments right next to it and the other things listed aren’t really in a populated area. They also have the Olympic park still hosting events they had several concerts there when they had the Super Bowl.
Innit I just made a comment about this and then read this
@@lembuice8900 Dude, I just can’t even with that scammer, trying to pass themselves off as the actual TheRichest in their comment to you...🙄🙄
@@lembuice8900 was just about to say that. plus the swimming pool and dorms around it were given to Georgia Tech (lol now i can say i swam in the same pool as olympians).
@@lembuice8900 In Atlanta the Olympic stadium was turned into Turner Field and when the Braves left, it was bought by Georgia State University and repurposed and downsized into Georgia State Stadium. Some of the other Atlanta Facilities are now part of Georgia Tech University, Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Morris Brown College. Others have been torn down. I believe that Atlanta used college dorms for its athlete housing and Olympic Village on the campuses of Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Clark Atlanta Universities. .

Homeless: "I live in a 12 million dollar building" 😃
Nokia Ta 1156 hard reset
This is a huge food for thought
situation is very ugly
Poor research. Some of the building images portrayed as abandoned are actually images while under constructions.
I agree, why would you put the construction of these buildings in a video about abandoned buildings?
The story is real but the video and photo clips are sus AF
Scrolled way too fare to find the first comment about this. The problem is real but the video is a joke (Talking about Atlanta but showing Rio pictures, Talking about Turin Italy but showing Florence instead) mixing up images/footage with your story doesn't make the story trustworthy
EXACTLY I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THAT!!!
Yeah like SoFi Stadium which isn't even for the Olympics.
You forgot to mention how London has a thing called the London Legacy Development Corporation which was created to ensure the preservation and legacy of the games/venues. Not one building from London 2012 has been abandoned, all reused/repurposed/rebuilt.
Yes! Cannot believe a channel of this size is spouting this rubbish not just about our city but other too
Agreed, what a bunch of lies. London has to be one of the greatest transformations and successes, but somehow they have turned it into lies on here. Sad really why people need to lie for content sake.
@@MichaelSnasdell Incredibly true! If they did any research at all they would find how the games provided a well needed and incredible transformation to a big area in East London. The regeneration of Stratford/surrounding areas in the borough of Newham as a result of the games has touted London 2012 as one of the best and most impactful games ever. Such a shame to see the great legacy somewhat tarnished by a creator looking for views.
@@JoshWaller but what do we know eh lol. Its all about the likes and subscribes these days, regardless of the truth. Then we wonder why so may people walk around talking rubbish.
At least some of us are in the know. As a Londoner I mocked the games during the build up, but was so damn proud in the end. What a legacy!
@@MichaelSnasdell Such an incredible legacy, such an incredible games. Makes me proud to be a Londoner.
Makes no sense at all not to utilize the living quarters for the people. Shame...
yea
True
They will as concentration camps or refuge camps
This was my thought, too, as I looked at the modern, multi-story athletes' accommodations. With millions of homeless all over the world, people living in appliance boxes, sleeping in doorways and under bridges, while these modern buildings crumble away, abandoned, makes little sense. (Well, I guess we can't expect logic from elected officials, can we?) Stay safe.
London has, as they are all public accommodation.
He didn’t tell the truth with Atlanta. Atlanta uses every venue that was used in the Olympics still up to today but Fulton County Stadium was already planned to be demolished after the games because the Braves were moving in Turner Field! 💯
Atlanta did a pretty good job of reusing Olympic venues. The Lake Lanier facility is the only venue I am aware of which fell into disrepair. Nearly everything built for 1996 had an after life planned.
They use to ones in London 2 where the athletes staying is now flats the stadium is used by West Ham football and most of the buildings we used in the olympics were building we all ready had and still use
Half the stuff he showed were in summer and they were and Winter sport so it would look like it was rundown when it is covered up with white and a few other pictures showed the buildings bieng built
Same for London for sure. Why the need to lie I wonder. There are some great examples of failures, but some huge successes too. Sad really the lengths people go to for content.
Half of what they said were lies. And, you can understand why Sarajevo fell apart. It's a city that went through a war. Hard to maintain it when half the time it's occupied by one group or another.
They should just make one neutral city for the olympics, this is such a waste
The issue isn’t that the olympics is a waste. It’s that it’s far too often given to cities/countries who can’t afford the game and/or have poor leadership
Yep
Olympics has never been more necessary in today's physically disconnected world.
Absolutely & it should be the birth place of the Olympics Athens, Greece
Then we don’t get all the corruption..imagine that
I’m proud to say that all the Olympic stadiums, training facilities and villages built for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico are still fully used today. I have trained in many of them and they’re in great conditions.
There were no olympics in 1986. Perhaps you refer to the FIFA World Cup held in Mexico that year.

Maracanã Stadium in Brazil is functioning pretty well and It's used for football competitions normally. Not falling apart like sounded in the video.
Same with the Fisht Stadium in Russia, was used at the World Cup in 2018 and Sochi moved in after the tournament
no pós olimpico, de fato o estádio ficou detonado
Right! Brazil abandon football stadium???
🤣 real joke
They need something famous to blame.
LMAO embarrassing... The Copa America final was literally played there. No research whatsoever.
They revamped the Maracana for the Copa America 2019 (edit) after it was in typical disrepair for years.
4:39 The two main buildings of Beijing 2008, Bird’s nest and Water cube are in full use til today. Bird’s nest routinely run concerts and Water cube is now a water park for everyone to enjoy. The Olympic village where athletes stayed have is now being used as a budget rental apartment.
He lied About Atlanta and London as well. All the permanent buildings from 2012 are in full use. The Olympic apartments are now worth around £1Million each. This video is complete nonsense.
The Birds Nest Stadium got used again for 2022 Winter Olympics & Water Cube became Ice Cube to host Curling events
I’m an Aussie and I have to say this video makes me glad that most of the venues from the Sydney Olympics that took place back in 2000 are still being used for example the Olympic stadium where the track and field events took place is still being used and the aquatic centre where the swimming and diving events took place is still being used it’s now a public aquatic centre anyone can use it in other words you can actually swim in the same pool where the swimming events took place
Its the same with Melbourne's facilities from the 1956 Olympics. I would go swimming in the same pool that they used. Everything has been re-used, and is much loved by the community here.
The Olympic park in Rio was actually being heavily used before the pandemic. It was the main complex for entertainment shows and concerts.
Not really a fair depiction of Atlanta. The stadium they show imploding was built in the 60’s. The Atlanta braves moved from that stadium into the Olympic stadium after the Olympics. The stadium is now used by ga. State college for their football program. The old Olympic living quarters are now used by ga. Tech for dorms.
You have no clue what you’re talking about!! Have you actually been to London to see the Olympic Park and village? It’s in complete use and has been pretty much since the games ended - and it’s a beautiful area. I’ve no idea what the pictures you showed were of, but they certainly weren’t the Olympic Park in London! You should be ashamed of yourself - get your facts straight.
Exactly this.. the creator shows random location so it seems :( just another clickbate video on youtube (the story is real, the footage is not)
He actually said nothing about the 2012 olympics, he was talking about the 1948 olympics where everything was abandoned (i'm from London and was also confused about what he was talking about)
lol
The. U clearly did go to Brazil and see all the abandoned places. UK is very different than most countries just because is great in the UK doesn’t mean is the same everywhere
You trying to say there is an Olympic park from 1948 still knocking about abandoned in London?
The Olympic Stadium for Sochi was used in the 2018 World Cup and is now used by PFC Sochi in the Russian Premier League.
And in Rio, the Maracana stadium is used by Flamengo and Fluminense in the Brazilian Super League
Maracanã is still being used by teams like Flamengo and Fluminense... it doesn’t look abandoned at all
The Sochi facilities are being kept in fantastic condition - the photo shown in the video is of the complex UNDER CONSTRUCTION! I visited the place a week ago and it looked nothing like in the video! Very poor research!
@@melian7403 Sochi Olympics were in 2014
Agree!
I mean hell f1 is using sochi for the races so its clearly not abandoned
@@melian7403 the photos in this video for sochi were all pre 2014
Yeah you are so right... the stadium was used for the football wc 2018 and is the home ground uof fk sotchi in russians first division. This videos is more about lies than about truth.
I am an expat living in South Korea and can confirm that all of the facilities that were used in the 1988 Summer Olymics and 2018 Winter Olympics are in great condition. Most of them are still being used for their intended purposes and some are being used for completely different purposes (museums etc.) The Olympic park in Songpa is one of my favorite places in Seoul and is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, especially in the Spring time.
I lived there in 1989 & 1993-1995, and had the great pleasure of taking my daughters to visit in 2018. All the RESPECT to the Korean people for investing their lives for a country to be proud of! Enjoy your time there ;0)
the worst part was that brazil tried to make this country so desirable that they covered the favelas (slums) with a wall of sort so that tourists coming out of the country’s airport can’t see those slums
🥺🥺😢
Wall is still there
Id rather go to a favela then a rich venue anytime.
india also did the same thing when Trump came

Every single building that was built for Sydney 2000 till to this date are been used well done Australia bring on Brisbane 2032 as we know how to do it 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yes. Brisbane knows how to blow 1 billion on reconstructing the Gabba, rather than build a 80,000+ seater new venue elsewhere that could be used by the AFL and cricket post Olympics.
Yeah, and Brisbane is also right next to Sydney and Melbourne. You can reuse those old Olympic venues from 2000 and 1956.
The world thanks Brisbane and Australia for hosting 2032 Games. We need countries to spend more money than ever on sporting events, in order to boast the world economy.
@@antoniokawarski6111 No, we don't need more spending. We just need hosts that are actually prepared, and for the IOC to support said hosts instead of leaving Tokyo to rot solely so they can mooch off of them.
@@gabetalks9275 Brisbane right next to Melbourne? Not really, it's 1,800km away. It would like hosting the Olympics in London and then using facilities in Rome, that's how far away it is from Brisbane.

yeah I literally went there last year, it's still as great as I remember it, they even added new stuff there. It's worth checking out if you're ever in the area
Do a video of Olympic venues that have been reused as something else or still used today for events etc
Good idea
Tokyo might be a rare exception. Almost all venues and facilities have been in full use after the 1964 Games and, after some makeover, they're going to be used this year again...hopefully.
Looking forward to this

I don't know about other venues, but Sochi's stadium, as well as all over Olympic facilities in the city, are doing perfectly fine. a lot of this is a load of bs, governments have reused most venues and redeveloped them. getting sick of these you tubers spruiking crap just to get views
The olympic village in Munich Germany is in full use . I live there and I love it. ❤️
It seemed that this guy would it to be exactly like in 1936, he's making a fool of himself. Maybe he also forgot the war like he forgot the one that destroyed Sarajevo. As usual, some random American who never had a minute of world history.
Sarajevo was abandoned due to a war so that's slightly more understandable
Riddled with innacuratacies, mis labeled buildings, the crumbling atlanta baseball stadium was a picture of the stadium demolished prior to the games. Can tell by the American accent.
The Cape Town stadium that was shown in the intro was never a Olympic stadium... It was built for the FIFA world cup. It is currently still in use and is used as a home ground for local football and rugby teams.
This video is ridiculously sensationalist, I live in the London Olympic Park, all the venues are used or reimagined into new uses, all the housing is fully occupied and one of East London’s most desirable neighbourhoods, the graffiti they refer to is an extremely hip artist district full of new and desirable housing, because of this artistic character. What a poorly researched video.

Australia's 2000 Olympics was designed specifically for reuse. The stadiums were adjusted slightly and get reused a lot for regular sporting activities. Most of the accommodation used for the athletes and officials were sold before the games actually happened.
I can't believe those places used to be so dilapidated. Without the video, my great-grandson would not have known what was inside those places. unbelievable. Thank you very much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I live in Atlanta and the mis-information/untruths about the ATL are staggering. All credibility for this sensationalist channel flys out the window along with the facts. Just stop.
no fr.
The reference to the Olympic stadium in Atlanta is incorrect. The image the video showed was of Atlanta Fulton County stadium being imploded AFTER the Olympics were completed and the Braves moved to the Olympic stadium to be used as their home field.
I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago and even though it’s closed for corona Olympic park is in good condition, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t just abandon everything
The Centennial Olympic Stadium from 1996 games was used by Atlanta Braves until they moved. Now it was brought by Georgia State University and they converted it to a football stadium. Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics is currently being used for training purposes. Everything from 1984 games are still in use. Granted a lot of it is either UCLA or USC stadium before the games.
Atlanta still uses most of the former Olympic buildings. Georgia Tech converted the athlete housing to student housing .
It was basically on their property anyway but yes
Also if I remeber right athletes used the campus to train
What derelict buildings are there in London from the Olympics? And them houses that were from the Olympic village already had plans for a big development in that whole area which was built after the Olympics so what your showing isn’t there anymore and it was not a common sight
Sydney did an amazing job repurposing their Olympic venues. Their Olympic Park is beautiful still 20 years later and is home to a lot of businesses and residential areas. They still use the facilities for big sporting events and open spaces for events like the Royal Sydney Easter Show every year.
In Australia the facilities are continued to be used to this day as sports stadiums and places to hold concerts and other events
The stadiums were adjusted slightly and get reused a lot for regular sporting activities. Most of the accommodation used for the athletes and officials were sold before the games actually happened. Thank you very much for sharing it, it helped me a lot
The 2016 competition pool was removed from the building and moved to a sports club and is in use.
Incredible how you have so much pictures of buildings that have absolutely nothing to do with the narrative.
Maracanã is not left in ruins! It is still used for our local championships by Flamengo and Fluminense teams, and hosted two Copa America and one Libertadores finals!
México’s 68 facilities are all in full use, the stadium is used by a pro soccer team, and the Olimpic city became part of the campus of a top university, the village and other facilities like the olimpic pool are still being used for training and competitions
Just recently I realized that the "Arena Revolución" that was used for wrestling competitions was transformed to a Gas station... Maybe is the only demolished venue. And apart of trainig and competitions the Alberca and Gimnasio Olímpicos have been used to apply for prepa and university exams. I remember being in line to apply for the UAM exam at the moment of the April 25th, 1989 earthquake. The line went downstairs, but nobody abandoned the line.
Japan has been doing a great job in accommodating athletes from all around the world. I hope they do not put all of that work into waste because I know Japan is a very resourceful country.
It's nice to see them in use afterwards.
This video is very negative about past Olympic stadiums. However where the 2000 olympics were held in Sydney lots of sports game are still played today rugby, soccer, concerts you name it. All of the facilities are still used and believe or not the swimming centre is now a public recreation area.
theirs a race track at the sochi olympic park that hosts formula racing every year it’s hated by most fans but it’s still used
impressive how so many countries have left everything abandoned
Unfortunately you haven't done a good research..As for Athens, I live there so I know, much of the venues you showed are located in an area where a huge park+commercial and residential area are going to be structured. Also the photos of the Athens Olympic complex do not represent its current state, since all of these venues are in use. However yes there are still some abandoned venues, since Olympics need so many, and for sure we should still use them for our pleasure.
Australia and Sydney ❤️ we respect
So…the ballpark in Atlanta you showed wasn’t it just sitting there, that was a demolition…
After reading the comments, I realized I just wasted 10 minutes of my life watching this video, full of misinformation. It is a shame.
Now that I’m looking at this, really grateful toward japan for taking a much more sustainable approach to their olympics.
That's simply not true in regards to London. Every single building is in use and Olympic stadium is occupied by football club.
The Olympic village in Atlanta are being used as college dorms and a bunch of the Olympic sports facilities are in full use and have been redone so they could be used as anything from baseball stadiums, football stadiums, and even college recreation centers and that picture of Olympic cauldron is from when they were demolishing it to make a parking lot
I think the venues for 1984 Los Angeles are still in use. Salt Lake City still using everything.
the vibez in the abandoned buildings feel so eerie
The common thing in all of the mentioned ghostly towns are apartments that were built for athletes. Why not making them houses for people who are homeless and let them find shelter. 😟
Seems like Vancouver 2010 games transformed the best after the Olympics
Australia has held the olympics twice, Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000. All venues and athlete villages are still used to this day.... the athletic venues are used for the 3 biggest events in Australian sports. MCG used for cricket and Aussie rules football, however the MCG was originally used for this purpose before the olympics. Sydney Olympic park was purpose built for the olympics is now home to several sporting teams and hosts some of the major NRL events.

These places could be converted into schools or even public recreational centers. But no, they abandon the place because there is no money to be made from them afterwards...
I see a lot of potential uses for them.

Also, buildings in Turin are not abandoned...they are mostly used for sports and events such as concerts and expos

0:21 - 2:21 I don’t remember SoFi Stadium being abandoned
Those parks should have been kept up, and used as public gyms/sports centers.
It breaks my heart to see these stadiums abandon. Do a video on abandon military experimental vehicles.
just think about these being repurposed as football stadiums, swimming pools, gyms etc. they could even be used as e-sports arenas with the massive screens. such an enormous waste. even if the countries sold them at 10% of what they cost to build, they could turn massive revenue streams for a very long time.
There is some major information missing from this video. Berlin’s 1936 village had been abandoned as it was seen as an exercise in Nazi propaganda. However the athletes village is about to be torn down or converted into luxury accommodation. The 1984 Sarajevo structures are in ruins due to a civil war that took place after then games.
London used existing buildings and only built what could have a second life. I believe the only things to be torn down were the two story McDonalds and the basketball arena. The stadium, aquatics centre, velodrome, and copper box arena are still in use. The athletes houses have either been redeveloped or are in the process of being so. I believe most of Sochi’s Olympic venues are also in use. Hell they built a race track around their Olympic buildings!
Sydney Olympic park is still used as athletes come from all around the city to compete there
I think it's fun to hangout in these abandoned buildings. thanks for touring us
Quite a superficial video, it’s like you just searched abandoned olimpic places on google and cut the first pictures you got together without knowing anything about the location. First of all bring up berlin Olympic area from 1936, wehre the most parts of the area (including the old stadium) are still in use after more than 80 years and one world war. Then London where the most locations are reused too. But the king of ignorance for me ist to talk about Sarajevo not even mentioned the war crimes happen her as key reason for the abandoned olimpic area.
The amount of absolute BS in this video is remarkable! To link the 1948 games to the 2012 games is ridiculous. The images used are also widely inaccurate.
Agreed I've been to Stratford twice post Olympics, and no venue or the village is abandoned, this video is hugely inaccurate. Sure there's a lot of construction still ongoing in the area but nothing abandoned.
Let’s also highlight that after London 2012 was over all bidding processes and presentations for future Olympics (the first being Tokyo 2020) dramatically changed to ensure sustainability and avoidance of underutilized legacy venues. The example of London is now integral to being successful in winning the right to host a games. Unfortunately the Rio bid was granted in 2009 I think (they are usually 7 years prior to hosting) so the sustainable legacy was not as prominent as post 2012 bids. Even if East london has had a few minor problems after the games, the fact that London changed the actual playing field for bids is a huge success.
wow, very impressive the deterioration that has occurred over time and the abandonment of the Olympic games complexes, places full of beautiful and unforgettable memories.
The section about London is a complete lie. The park is still in use and the stadium is being used by West Ham united.

The stadium you show being demolished in Atlanta is what was Fulton County Stadium that was built in 1965 and used until 1997. It was always meant to become a parking lot after the Olympic Games. Centennial Olympic Stadium was right next to it and after the Olympics The Braves used that stadium until 2017. It still is being used to this day as the football stadium for Georgia College which is downtown.
