- Hey Tarabytes! Kelly Clarkson's voice is perfect for any song! That's the premise for this series in which I react to "Kellyoke" performances! Kellyoke (a play on the words Kelly and Karaoke) involves Kelly and her band “Y’all” covering famous songs usually in shortened versions. She sings a mixture of modern hits and famous classics showing the diversity of her voice and her vocal prowess! As a Texan who studied Opera, Kelly exists at the periphery of so much music - she's country without being too country, she's pop with being too pop, she's soul without being too soul, she's rock without being too rock.
She's able to occupy all these musical spaces with ease - because the sounds she grew up on and studied are so diverse and varied. And, of course, she is an instrument that is really versatile in its tuning 😁

I would say Kelly’s voice is one of the greatest known voice of our time.

Great reviews of Kelly's Kellyokes! I agree with most of what you say. One thing worth noting; Kelly typically learns the songs the day of performance and pretty much does without rehearsals. And while I love the Kelly country, I feel the same way with virtually every genre she sings. She really doesn't just sing, she delivers, she lives and breathes so many of the songs, and connects, conveys the emotion of so well, it's more than just technique, and technical ability. But from Country, Blues, Pop, Rock, Big Band, and on, nothing is outside her reach.
I Loved her version of The Dance for Garth's Kennedy Center Award.

When you said "Omg I'm a sucker for strings" girl, me too!!! There's nothing more beautiful to me than a pretty voice accompanied by a violin. Or an acoustic guitar. You just can't go wrong with either. And Kelly's voice OMG was just made for songs like that. That girl got more emotion in her pinky finger than most ppl do in their whole bodies lol.
By the way, I was also only a bit unconvinced by the Umbrella interpretation. But I fully agree that Kelly Clarkson can practically sing anything! I have been a fan since day one!

I've listened to all of her covers and I still think my favorite one is when she did "The One That Got Away" by Katie Perry.
I love Kelly. The way I remember it, the audience writes down songs they want Kells to cover and then she has like 30 minutes to choose and learn one.
That's just.. Super impressive and also explains why some songs don't sound as polished. Even knowing that I think she sounds better than 90% of singers out there...

Kelly is phenomenal. I love Kellyoke . She can sing Alone by Heart amazingly. I hope someday she make a cover of one of Dimash's song, maybe the song Screaming. She has potential to sing that amazing song. Kelly has flexible and powerful voice , she can sing any song.

Honestly, I think what you were missing with her cover of "Umbrella" is just that it's a really hard song to edit down to 2min. There's so much of the song that you want to hear and because it has to be cut for time you miss it. At least that's how I felt. Because, yeah, she sounded amazing.
It's not a 'grace' note. It's called an appoggiatura. It's a leading-tone, non-chordal ornament to facilitate tension before a resolution. It's basic music theory. It's why Adele triggers chills when singing. It has been clinically studied. The 'crunchy grace note' resolution triggers the reaction.
