Thanks for this review....loved it. Crtics are just hurt because they got called out in the movie. The actors performance was outstanding, cinematography was excellent and the dialogue just absolutely brilliant. People shouting its boring to watch them argue for 2 hours..really? This I guarantee you happens everyday for people in toxic relationships or marriages. Its not like they talk for the 2 hours straight because you can see they take a break, think about what the other person said that hurts and start the arguement all over again. This is so normal but people just want good stuff to watch, they do not want reality, hence those saying the movie was a disappointment. Loved it, recommend it and will definitely be watching again (ofcourse after a while cause its a rollercoster of emotions).

Thank you ....the movie was great but objectively speaking the cinematography was nice, the black and white was a great asthetic, the dialouge was paced well and was authentic lol the emotions were raw and uncut, acting was on point. You may not like the characters or their way of communicating but that doesn't make the movie bad it is simply Malcom and Marie yes they are toxic to each other no it was not romanticized this movie will not make you happy or uplift you no it was uncomfortable to watch thats the point

I felt like the dialogue was too precise to be believable. Rarely people in an argument have the exact words for what they want to say. Especially at that speed. It wasn't real dialogue with constant back and forth, it was two people taking turns delivering monologues

    • @ah-en7jq
      @ah-en7jq Před 3 lety +2

Idk guys, I beg to differ.
Back in my 20's and 30's, my mind was much more sharp, and I could spit out sentences and words with precision at such a pace that left nothing wanting. My brain, back then, just operated quicker.
That's not to say that I'm not operating on all cylinders today in my midlife. Your brain just functions differently as the years go by. You lose certain aspects but gain others.
I clearly remember my brain operating at this speed (especially when something was needed to be proved or gained). Hence, for me, this was totally believable.

Wow Chris this was a great review. Unless someone has been in a relationship like this they really wouldn't understand the dynamics of it. The rants the freak out over misplacing your phone because your on a rant. Yes the pent up frustrations and anger from Marie. The neediness of Malcolm for Marie to be his sounding board. The film was beautifully shot. I love that it was in black and white. It is this type of relationship B&W no coloring things up or adding flowers to the feelings totally raw emotions. The acting was superb. Both terrific actors.

This movie reminded me of how exhausting being in a relationship can be & why I'd rather stay single. I Love Zendaya Coleman her performance was stellar & the music was awesome, but this movie wasn't my favorite, it just gave me the sense that these two were simply settling. David Washington has some big shoes to fill, but i have no doubt that he will.

JDW was putting on a thespian clinic of sorts so that those who aspire take notes.
Zen, well she was pretty much the eye candy the film needed but lost her vigor about half way through.
Yet, that’s the fuckin point now isn’t it?
To love film as much as the director did didn’t make him a better director, love and loss of those women in his life made him a better director.
The complete and devastating acknowledgment that Marie was just a muse, a piece of the puzzle, not considered to be a whole matured human is the reason why she wasn’t mentioned and never chosen to portray the film’s character.
He knew, consciously or not, that by only acknowledging those close to what was on screen rather than a sliver of inspirational key lime pie that no one would’ve cared or even arrived that Marie even mattered.
Love just works that way sometimes, the people you love for whatever reason really take a piss, wether it be on you or at your expense, they keep you warm. So why keep them around?
Because Love and Loss always takes L’s to complete them.
Movie was dope AF for the wrong and right reasons.

Disappointed. I think John David Washington is again poorly casted more than Zendeya. His acting feels forced, never a time except tht bathtub scene where he cud sell him properly. I never believed him as a filmmaker. Specialy having seen Fosse Verdon, this film needed Rockwell and Michelle williams. While it was fun unraveling their true feelings for each other, I cudnt shake awaya the fact they are just acting the parts. Its a missed opprtunity a film felt stagy despite of not being a stageplay. It needed more subtlety, more calm moments, scenes with banal dialogues and more time with the characters b4 they start to reveal themselves wholeheartedly.

I was harsh on my review of Malcolm and Marie. It feels like it violated the basic concept of movie making in that they told us everything instead of showing. The actors told us about the movie we should have been watching. The dialogue was oversaturated like a food with too much salt. I had no empathy for the actors. They both should have been wearing masks because this was as bad as a Covid-19 diagnosis. I hope its not Netflix strategy to give low budget films with one actor or two in this case. I gave it one star on 5 Star Movie Reviews
