I just finished it straight away I knew traditional critics weren't gonna like it because the film calls them out and just looked at rotten tomatoes critics 54 fans 78 lol
Exactly!!!!!
They knew it... That it why they used that part to talk about the movie review
Fun theory: Marie is Rue
Thanks for this review....loved it. Crtics are just hurt because they got called out in the movie. The actors performance was outstanding, cinematography was excellent and the dialogue just absolutely brilliant. People shouting its boring to watch them argue for 2 hours..really? This I guarantee you happens everyday for people in toxic relationships or marriages. Its not like they talk for the 2 hours straight because you can see they take a break, think about what the other person said that hurts and start the arguement all over again. This is so normal but people just want good stuff to watch, they do not want reality, hence those saying the movie was a disappointment. Loved it, recommend it and will definitely be watching again (ofcourse after a while cause its a rollercoster of emotions).
Thank you ....the movie was great but objectively speaking the cinematography was nice, the black and white was a great asthetic, the dialouge was paced well and was authentic lol the emotions were raw and uncut, acting was on point. You may not like the characters or their way of communicating but that doesn't make the movie bad it is simply Malcom and Marie yes they are toxic to each other no it was not romanticized this movie will not make you happy or uplift you no it was uncomfortable to watch thats the point
Wow, you think this is normal, for whom do you think its normal. I've never been in a relationship like this. People who don't see this as normal find it quiet disturbing.
I felt like the dialogue was too precise to be believable. Rarely people in an argument have the exact words for what they want to say. Especially at that speed. It wasn't real dialogue with constant back and forth, it was two people taking turns delivering monologues
right??? it was just too clear for an argument, honestly i would've prefer a more natural dialogue
I agree. Its almost like if a shrink was to argue with someone. Normal people wouldnt argue like that
Idk guys, I beg to differ.
Back in my 20's and 30's, my mind was much more sharp, and I could spit out sentences and words with precision at such a pace that left nothing wanting. My brain, back then, just operated quicker.
That's not to say that I'm not operating on all cylinders today in my midlife. Your brain just functions differently as the years go by. You lose certain aspects but gain others.
I clearly remember my brain operating at this speed (especially when something was needed to be proved or gained). Hence, for me, this was totally believable.
I literally just finished watching Malcome and Marie, it's in the top 10 of 2021 so far. You need to have been in a very serious relationship and devoted to understand how much of a tag and pull they had going within the film. (I know everyone in this comment section loved the movie)
(Spoiler) I thought it was really interesting how the last shot when you can see Zendaya standing far away outside through the window almost had a horror movie feel to it. It kind of startled me for a second
Yeah that’s what I thought
I genuinely thought she was going to commit suicide in the morning
@@lailajuras8615 I didn’t think she was gonna commit suicide, but I did think Marie would leave him.
Ok, real talk. Me after the first 20 minutes watching the movie:
1) Press pause.
2) Make some macaroni and cheese.
3) Feel bad.
4) Press play.
My Favorite stage play turned into a movie was “the father“ that should be coming out at the end of the month.... I was lucky to see it early, AMAZING Movie!!!!
I had to stop several times.
Intense, chile
I felt i was privy to a private couples relationship.
It was tough to watch...especially with us so up close to them.
@@MoviesAndMunchies yes. It was like i was in each room with them. How did they do that?

It felt like a movie vs a real couple arguing. No one speaks for 1-2 minutes uninterrupted, then allow the other to do the same, then rinse and repeat. Real couples interrupt. This always felt like a movie script.
@@jdesert5036 all couples dont interrupt. There are listeners out there
@@ertfgghhhh Yes, in made up movie world, not in real life, especially over the course of 90 minutes.
Ma Rainey’s black bottom , I’ve never seen it on stage , but I fell in love with the screen play and am so happy they made an on screen adaptation!
Wow Chris this was a great review. Unless someone has been in a relationship like this they really wouldn't understand the dynamics of it. The rants the freak out over misplacing your phone because your on a rant. Yes the pent up frustrations and anger from Marie. The neediness of Malcolm for Marie to be his sounding board. The film was beautifully shot. I love that it was in black and white. It is this type of relationship B&W no coloring things up or adding flowers to the feelings totally raw emotions. The acting was superb. Both terrific actors.
I love the movie but the level of toxicity in the room gave me a migraine 😂. So many emotions.
Well done review I watch the movie before this and thank you for explaining to me the deeper meaning I truly appreciate it love your channel
I can tell by the thumbnail that this is going to be a good one. Thank you!
Soundtracks play big for me, and Outkast's Liberation to close the deal was masterful.
Hi Chris great review, I liked it a lot. Am watching saint Maud at moment, but I won't give anything away. Just wondering when you plan on reviewing it. Thanks davey 💚
This movie is EVERYTHING! The intensity of the conversations in this film! In certain portions of the film when John David is acting I soooooo hear his father seep through his voice!
this is an amazing review
Thankyou for this recommendation! I was captivated by both actors, their emotions, the cinematography! Could not stop watching, but yes, I had to watch a lighter show afterwards as M&M was a rollercoaster of emotions for me!
Whew - tough question. :) Shakespeare, Ibsen, Wilde, Miller, O'Neill, Williams... so many amazing plays have been made into good to great films, it's hard to pick a favorite.
Henry v Lawrence olivier first Shakespeare film brought to the Big screen.
This movie reminded me of how exhausting being in a relationship can be & why I'd rather stay single. I Love Zendaya Coleman her performance was stellar & the music was awesome, but this movie wasn't my favorite, it just gave me the sense that these two were simply settling. David Washington has some big shoes to fill, but i have no doubt that he will.
Please don't allow this toxic movie allow you the joy of a loving relationship. This is not .the norm.
JDW was putting on a thespian clinic of sorts so that those who aspire take notes.
Zen, well she was pretty much the eye candy the film needed but lost her vigor about half way through.
Yet, that’s the fuckin point now isn’t it?
To love film as much as the director did didn’t make him a better director, love and loss of those women in his life made him a better director.
The complete and devastating acknowledgment that Marie was just a muse, a piece of the puzzle, not considered to be a whole matured human is the reason why she wasn’t mentioned and never chosen to portray the film’s character.
He knew, consciously or not, that by only acknowledging those close to what was on screen rather than a sliver of inspirational key lime pie that no one would’ve cared or even arrived that Marie even mattered.
Love just works that way sometimes, the people you love for whatever reason really take a piss, wether it be on you or at your expense, they keep you warm. So why keep them around?
Because Love and Loss always takes L’s to complete them.
Movie was dope AF for the wrong and right reasons.
Thanks! Looking forward to see it!
Great video bro
I could say first but this is a good video
Ugly, Flawed, Vulnerable..
It Goes To Uncomfortable Spaces, That Many Aren’t Ready For. As Of Such They Dismiss It, With False Narratives And Outrage, Of “This Isn’t What I Planned To Watch. It Was Supposed To Be Different.”
Mirror Is Funny. Complications Are Messy. And None Of Us Are Without Improvements.
I Enjoyed The Experience.
So are you saying" Malcolm and Marie" is this year's "Marriage Story"?
I wonder what the budget was for this
This sorta reminds me of the argument scene from Marriage Story
I got those vibes at times too!
yeah bro, in fact that film should have been in black n white too

1:31 in and I'm pausing to watch this movie ...
A masterpiece. Period.
I watched this movie with my wife and there was a few stuff on there that we just looked at each other and smile. and there were some other stuff we both definitely could have related to and there was times we both called bullshit on the both malcom and Marie argument. All in all we enjoyed it fully. My only Issue were the profanity was sometimes overused.
I watched alittle bit of it, It's not going to be easy to watch this movie, because it's in Black and white.
I absolutely loved both the film and your review.
I have just uploaded a review as well and I would love to get your opinion on it 😀
The plot reminds me of Jennifer Lawrence & her ex (who's was 21 yrs. Older then her) Darren Oronofsky. 🤔 He directed her in "Mother". They broke up a lil after the films flop.
It felt like a movie vs a real couple arguing. No one speaks for 1-2 minutes uninterrupted, then allow the other to do the same, then rinse and repeat. Real couples interrupt. This always felt like a movie script.

A hip hop cadence? Because they're black? Have you ever said that a white cast has a contemporary, country, easy listening cadence? Real questions.
No, I didn't say that because they're black. I had read that in an interview with JDW, Zendaya and the director that it was kind of the rhythm they were looking for with the dialog delivery, which then made me pay attention to it to see if that's what they captured. I appreciate you asking!
I personally found the script to very cheesy and felt like it was written by a highschool kid trying to write a Cassavetes movie. Had some great cinematography and some scenes with good performances but was kinda let down by the script
Oh my, I simply can't believe she acted that way the entire movie..smh. Give it a break at some point and leave it there...
There's motive to everything humans do. Why did the director write this movie and pick these 2 people to act in it. I personally think it is TRASH. There is no reason to release this amount of toxicity.
Title of this movie should be changed to ..."Dumb People Watching"....
@Movies And Munchies I wish you could keep your reviews within 3 minutes. This one is little too long.
Disappointed. I think John David Washington is again poorly casted more than Zendeya. His acting feels forced, never a time except tht bathtub scene where he cud sell him properly. I never believed him as a filmmaker. Specialy having seen Fosse Verdon, this film needed Rockwell and Michelle williams. While it was fun unraveling their true feelings for each other, I cudnt shake awaya the fact they are just acting the parts. Its a missed opprtunity a film felt stagy despite of not being a stageplay. It needed more subtlety, more calm moments, scenes with banal dialogues and more time with the characters b4 they start to reveal themselves wholeheartedly.
You’re gonna write this same post on all the reviews for this movie??
Abhie: YES!
🤣🤣🤣 ok got it.
@@10melomelo Lol. Why would a person's review of content be different?
I was harsh on my review of Malcolm and Marie. It feels like it violated the basic concept of movie making in that they told us everything instead of showing. The actors told us about the movie we should have been watching. The dialogue was oversaturated like a food with too much salt. I had no empathy for the actors. They both should have been wearing masks because this was as bad as a Covid-19 diagnosis. I hope its not Netflix strategy to give low budget films with one actor or two in this case. I gave it one star on 5 Star Movie Reviews
You’re points are absolutely baseless and stupid tbh
