  • How has the Mercedes-Benz E-Class evolved since the 90s? We're looking at the first technical generation of the 'E-Class' and how it compares to the fifth generation W213 2019 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4matic.

    We were in Toronto during the weekend of the 8th of September for the Oblivion II 80's & 90's Car & Culture Show where we met up with a local enthusiast to film their 1994 Mercedes-Benz E 500 sedan. We reached out to Mercedes-Benz Canada to see if we could feature a modern E-Class alongside it, and we ended up with this 2019 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4matic sedan.
    Our Retrospective is looking back at the first real E-Class, the facelift W124 when Mercedes changed their naming conventions from a 3 digit number followed by the body-type, engine displacement, and fuel type, to the modern system we know today, with the class designation first followed by a 2 to 3 digit representing the engine. Times have changed significantly since 1994 when we look at the recent 2019 model. We go over some of the interior and exterior dimensions and how the two vehicles have changed.
    We then go in-depth with the W213 E-Class, going over the features and technology found on this latest generation executive car, including the packages and options selected on this specific vehicle. We discuss the exterior design, the Multibeam LED headlights with 84 LEDs per unit, Pre-Safe enhanced safety technology, semi-autonomous driving mode, and the overall design of this generation.
    We go inside the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E450 to talk about the interior design and layout, including the full leather seating with front heat and ventilation and rear heat, the rear sun shades, dual-zone automatic climate control, the dual 12.3" Comand APS navigation system, and the ambient lighting options. We also go over some of the difficulties we experienced with the Comand navigation system.
    We then take the Mercedes E-Class on a road test through Mississauga including a drive along Highway 401 to talk about the bi-turbo V6 engine, the semi-autonomous driving mode, and the overall ride and drive of this sedan. We test the acceleration and handling along with how the car responds in real-world driving situations.
    We wrap up our retrospective on the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E450 4matic sedan by going over what we ultimately liked and disliked about this $87,000 sedan.

    The old one has tech the new one doesn't, like a cassette deck! Six-disc CD changer!! Headlight wipers!!! Three-watt car phone!!!!

      I love hearing that, thank you! I personally love filming these kinds of episodes, I'm hoping we'll have more opportunities like this one.

      Thanks! Tonnes of tech, I'm reminded by it this week with the AMG E 53 coupé. The safety systems alone are insane.

    Woohoo another PRN video on MERCEDES-BENZ! The best car content on CZcams! Oh I wished the length of the video 40 minutes instead of 19 minutes! Hope the uploading video resolution be 4K@60FPS in the future, they look stunningly clear smooth crisp on my underrated LG G7.

      We'd love to upgrade to 4K footage at some point! We switched back to our older gear earlier this year, and it's pretty limited. But we've got a couple other Mercedes vehicles coming in the next little while!

      @@PRNTestDrive Thanks so much sir, but atm your lovely content is mostly 60FPS at 1080P which is really nice. Oh wow, I can't wait for your future reviews.

    Lol.. All the tech and screens in that new E will not last 25 years.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Před 4 lety +3

      Definitely won't and unlike the older vehicles like this W124 replacement parts aren't likely to be stocked for extended periods of time. The 2001 BMW 740iL I have still has new parts from BMW like the gauge cluster, whereas I doubt MB will have a replacement nav unit in 15 years for this.

      Glad to hear it! Can't go wrong with it, the E-Class has always stood out as a solid option no matter what year you go with.

      I swear BlackBerry had a tonne of their trackpads left over from the BlackBerry Classic and sold them off to M-B at a heavy discount. I've got another E-Class this week, but not a BlackBerry so I can't confirm side-by-side, but I really feel they're the exact same parts 😂

    Hey PRN, I saw in one of your videos a custom cup holder in one of your cars. Could you please link me to the ebay seller you got them from or the video where you talked about them? Thanks, could really use something like them for my merc e class and e38

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Před 4 lety

      Hey there, unfortunately it seems that the person who was making those cup holders stopped a couple years back. We've heard from a number of commenters over the past 24 months with similar questions about them, but the eBay store we linked in that video no longer has anything. I'm surprised with the influx of 3D-printing someone out there hasn't come up with a new model.

      @bobsteve4812 Před 4 lety +1

      PRN_TestDrive Thanks for the info but, despite the fact his/her store has no stock of anything, could you please tell me the ebay name? Might want to ask him if he could make more or at least find out why he stopped making them. Thanks

      I believe you can get the E-Class with an analogue instrument cluster and perhaps a smaller main Comand screen, however one you add the premium package you're stuck with them.

    A new Volvo S60 shames design of this new Mercedes E class.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Před 4 lety +1

      Volvo is really killing it with their design language right now. The S90 we featured would be more in-line segment wise with this, but I feel the S60's rear end is cleaner.
