    I had a run in with a Madri brand ambassador on Reddit. He had a go at my innocent comment then replied “literally brewed in Madrid” I replied “not if you’re drinking it in the UK it isn’t”. He didn’t back off, so I linked an article from a Yorkshire newspaper featuring Madri proudly announcing it being brewed in Tadcaster. I asked him if his senior leader quoted verbatim in the article was lying. That shut him up.

    • @heiltd1286
      @heiltd1286 Před 5 měsíci +11

      They're fooled on two levels. The first one is that if something is English ( or British) it's rubbish and that anything from overseas is automatically better. This might be due to an education system that instills in people a sense of shame about the country's achievements. With beer this is clearly not so; English beer is the best beer in the world. Even the most mediocre cask conditioned ale is vastly superior to the beers up against each other here. The second deception is having instilled the idea 'British is trash and foreign is quality', you provide products selling on foreign superiority and sophistication when in actuality these beers are brewed in beer factories in Burton On Trent, Lancashire and South Wales. Not only are they brewed in Britain but they're brewed to a much lower quality too. Stella Artois for instance is a prime example of how a pretty decent beer can be degraded to appeal to British lager drinkers. What needs to be understood is that British lager drinkers care not one jot about the quality, authenticity, etc of their 'beer'. They're drinking an image created by advertising. They're brainwashed consumers with no ability for independent thinking.

    Until last year Cruzcampo was imported from Seville. I was lucky enough to visit the brewery last year as I sold the product for the company I worked for. We had done a great job building up the brand, so well in fact that HUK bought back the rights to distribute the product themselves in the UK. Unfortunately this was the end of the lovely 30ltr imported Campo kegs, now it is brewed in the UK at a lower abv and sanitized down in my opinion to compete with brands such as Madri. Real shame, but understand the process is a purely financial decision based on customer trends (The Madri effect) and brand visibility globally.

    • @heiltd1286
      @heiltd1286 Před 5 měsíci +3

      That's more a comment on you than Birra Moretti. Maybe you need to be more inquisitive and adventurous. In the UK, particularly England, even the most bland cask conditioned ale is much superior to Birra Moretti. If you encounter the best English ales you've found the best beer in the world. They're in a different dimension to Birra Moretti. On the other hand you're likely to think if it's a product not heavily advertised and made by a big corporation it's trash. Governments and transglobal corporations love people with this attitude. Such people do as they're told. Thinking for themselves is not on the agenda.

      @@gustavjansson6499 My comment was a bit rude. My apologies. You did say 'one of my absolute favourites when it comes to Italian beer '. I missed the Italian bit. Italy traditionally has not been a producer of great beer like England for instance. But there is a thriving craft beer scene in Italy, particularly Northern Italy, and they do some damned good beers. Their being non readily available outside the regions in which they're brewed makes sampling these beers problematic.

    I always check the back of the bottle or can to see where it is brewed and will not buy any of these British beers branded to appear imported. Nothing to do with the quality which is often fine. It is just that I do not want to patronise the deceitful. What we need is a requirement that the country in which the beer is brewed be prominently stated on the front of the can, bottle or pump after all the brewers cannot possibly object to honesty- can they?

    Is it James Clay? I think, struck a big Super Bock distribution deal not long ago. They have just signed a deal with Augustiner as well.

      I hope that is the case, I would love Augustiner to be more widely available. Who know perhaps if we get a few decent German lagers over here it might force quality up!

    Are you sure the Super Bock is brewed in Portugal? Wikipedia says the Portugese version is 5.2%, but the UK Tesco version says 4.7%. Maybe it's just their brewed for the UK version. I think it's the worst of the three by far because it has glucose syrup in it.

    • @shaneking5301
      @shaneking5301 Před 5 měsíci +2

      4.7% is still brewed in Portugal but for the UK market. You can get the proper 5.2% stuff in 250ml bottles in Lidl often.

      Edit: just had a bottle for the first time in a few years and the small print says 4.7%. I believe it's 5.2% in Portugal, why are breweries obsessed with reducing the ABV?

    This issue these beers is nothing to do with the water quality and more to do with cheap ingredients and producing the beers down to price to meet a specific production cost to keep profits and revenue up.
    Water quality is something all these mega breweries can replicate no matter where in the world the beer is produced so unless they are choosing not to condition the water then it’s a none issue.
    The problem is these breweries will substitute grain malt for malt extract, corn syrup etc and they will substitute hops for hop extract, hop oils and other chemicals all to create a beer that sort of represents what they are trying to do but really it’s a poor, cheap quality beer all produced down to a price to make a big revenue.

    Super Bock is hardly Mediterranean seeing as it's brewed just north of Porto about 5km from the Atlantic. And of the big three Portuese lagers (Superbock, Sagres, and Crystal) it's definitely the worst beer.
    Super Bock is also wholly owned by Carlsberg, so it could end up being produced anywhere.
