      Jack Parker I went from 90lbs bench to 215 bench in a year by maxing out/trying max every 2-3 weeks.I started right after my 15th bday. I don’t max out that much anymore, about once every 1.5 months. Since my 16th bday I went from 215 to 265, and aiming for 275 before 17. The point I’m trying to make here is that I maxed fairly often and even though I failed many of them that didn’t stop me from progressing a lot.

      @user-fx6uy9gm2p Před 4 lety +246

      spunkflunk Arm size doesn't matter here, it could be fat for all we know, what matters for strength is the muscle size, pure muscle size, leverages, moment arm and CNS's ability to push the force through with the muscles. Bench responds well to volume and frequency, so doing high volume accessories and benching at least 4x a week(accessories included) should help you out, also do not go until failure, leave at least 1 - 2 reps in the tank.

    • @sedgix
      @sedgix Před 4 lety +70

    • @user-fx6uy9gm2p
      @user-fx6uy9gm2p Před 4 lety +20

      iDroid If your goal is strength, your compound sets should be at RPE(Rate of Perceived Exertion, look the RPE table up for better understanding. Basically leave 1 to 2 reps left in the tank, because if you work til failure you will have to drop the weight as you will fatigue, and when you drop the weight your total volume (load x sets x reps) drops, and volume is one of the main things you need for strength and size.

    • @0h0h0h0
      @0h0h0h0 Před 3 lety +11

      @@iDroidGaming Late to the party, but additionally to what "-" said: if you go till failure it is either muscle failure (which is bad because of what they explained) and/or technical failure (which is bad for obvious reasons). It's way more useful to have good technique throughout the full set and all the reps, and build strength with good form, than fatigue your muscles and go till failure, because you will end up compensating with bad form.

      Its a better transformation than 100% of people who say they could do better but don’t ever back up the claim. 70 pounds in a year is good for an upper body lift even as someone who’s making noob gains. And now that you’ve learned more you’ll offset the slower progress of being more advanced with your better knowledge so it won’t even necessarily slow down - maybe the next 70 pounds will come even quicker! Keep it up dude!!

This past year I made an increase from the same 135 bench to a 275 pound 1 rep max but a 250 pound competition ready bench press. However I was purely training for strength throughout the year as I had joined powerlifting. My current working set is 225 6reps 4 sets. I’m pretty lean but don’t Have an amazing physique by any means. I weighed at 165 for competition but at the moment I’m 174 I was hoping to do powerlifting in college but I have a long ways to go if I want to be competitive in college!
